Modding out a HWK - 1000

By Crimson Death, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Jareth, the Hawk-290 has been confirmed by Lucasfilm at being about 16 meters long (when the miniature for X-Wing came out i think), but the people on wookiepedia refused to accept that and kept the old d20 stats. So, no typo, it is around the size of a starfighter, and it totally fits the sil 3.

The new Hawk-1000 stats can be interpreted as FFG winking at the size question: it has the sil and cargo space consistent with the wookiepedia stats and what many people expect, but it is also extremely difficult to get with his Rarity/10. So if you want the hwk of your dreams, you can but gotta pay for it.

Yeah, wookie has never been totally accuate about a lot of things, but for the 290 being about the size of a y-wing and having the stats she does. HT18 SS18 75 cargo and 5 HP? Thr 1000 only has 25 more cargo, 1 better speed and armor and 3 less SS, for almost double the cost and rarity?

Even the fact the 290 is about 16 m long makes it worse, the 290 stats are just a little wacky i think. For her size at best I could see HS15 SS12 and maybe 25 cargo (being VERY generous).

As is she the uber fighter of the year with better cargo than the WUD-500 (for that matter, she a better freighter than the WUD too).

Fit her with an offensive set of linked cannons, nightcloak paint, whisperthrust engines, it's be like a patrol boat (most sil4) trying to hit a speeder, if they even detect her, with further hp to boot all with your 75enc of spice in her 16m narrow little frame guarded by her 2 passengers.

She's the freighter for smugglers to want to play a fighter pilot.

Her stats just seem TOO good, especially when compared to the 1000. Don't know, i guess it's just me then.

But at least her sil is correct. :-P

well she's supposed to be small and very fast and agile, speed and agility being her main defenses, so the stats totally fit. And yes she's she perfect ship for smuggler/fighter pilot, or to be used as a heavy fighter to back up a squadron of smaller ones. Still it has a rather high rarity/7 to compensate how good it is.

OK, if just by using rarity,go to the source. Corellia, -2 rarity (maybe even less since they're CEC vessels). No big deal there.

I know i'm beating a dead horse, but the stats for this ship just break my suspension of disbelief, especially when she's just a straight twig with stubby wings/engines at her aft. 2 crew, 2 passengers and 75 cargo.

Just looks like whoever wrote her stats never bothered to even look at the ship (game stills, 3-d cross sections especially).

We hate using house rules, but on this one all of our players agree, she's a Sil 3 ship with better game stats than several Sil 4 ones. Way too good for her price and stats.

Might use the stats Donovan has up on his blog, still a lot beefier than almost everything else, but a bit more believable. Our Ace/Rigger would have a field day modding this beast.

Anyway, Thanks for the responses. Letting the horse die now. IMHO, I hope FFG adjusts her stats, if not I think our AoR figter squad will consists of nothing but moded HWK-290s. LOL.

As for the OP, trade in the 1000 for a 290. Fits better with the Gunslinger/Rigger/Pilot idea and SHE is Sil 3. Still plentty of room for a gaming party of 4. :-P

As I don't have the book yet, is the HWK-1000 supposed to be Kyle Katarn's second ship?

The HWK-1000 is a larger version of the HWK-290 (The Moldy Crow). It's likely a nod to the size discrepancies between various sources on just how large the HWK-290 really is. Many of the older sources had the ship being at the size that the HWK-1000 is currently listed as, whereas the official sources show the Crow to be roughly the same size as the X-Wing.

I would venture to guess, the HWK-1000 was created by FFG to resolve those differences.
