Temporary Alliance

I think I stepped into this thread expecting a meaningful discussion about game design principles, but found someone who wants a conversation about the implication of the government creating flying purple rhinos that rain skittles and cheeseburgers down on Manhattan, and dislikes it when people tell him there's no point in talking about something that's a lot worse than it sounds and is never gonna happen anyway. OP, I'm gonna bow out and let your durdle to your heart's content, sorry to rain on your parade.

Well, I honestly don't know how to answer that. I thought I was just asking for a friendly discussion of people's opinions, but apparently I'm

"someone who wants a conversation about the implication of the government creating flying purple rhinos that rain skittles and cheeseburgers down on Manhattan, and dislikes it when people tell him there's no point in talking about something that's a lot worse than it sounds and is never gonna happen anyway"

Well thanks for discussing it so cordially anyway.

I think my point didn't come accross - my point was that you can't just dismiss it in principle because "The game kind of breaks down if you can mix the factions.". My point was you need to give a specific explanation of in what way it would be broken, otherwise your'e basically saying "it just would, ok!".

And my point was that saying "IA did it" doesn't make it somehow valid here. The designers have stated (S&V Podcast designer interview) they specifically created the S&V faction to avoid putting the ships in Rebel and Empire.

Of course it doesn't, but it proves that you can't simply dismiss it out of hand; that it has to be considered point by point. That was my point. It was a response, a counter-argument, not an argument on its own.

It just seems that so much of this argument against what I proposed is framed as "screw you, NO, the designers aren't doing it because X and they're right", which seems offensive, unneccaserily confrontaional and unfriendly to me.

Not saying you, specifically do that, TIE Pilot, that's just the vibe I'm getting fro this thread, and others.

Didn't read the thread.

No. God no.

I definitely don't see how Biggs and Serissu would be a balance issue.

Or Serissu and Howlrunner.

Have fun fighting against that.

Why not all 3?

  • Biggs (25)
  • Serissu (20)
  • Howlrunner (18)
  • 3 x Academy Pilot (36)
  • Total of 99 points!

Easy enough to deal with, especially since faction limits aren't a thing.

Etahn A'Baht with R2D2

Ten Numb with Ruthlessness and Ion Torpedo

Lt. Blount with Ruthlessness and Assault Missile

Either they break formation, or they eat tons of splash damage.

(Local FLGS is planning a "No faction restrictions" tourney. I've been thinking of crap like this for the last week.)

So, here's a few more "Break the game" combo ideas:

Super Dash with Ysana instead of Kyle (PTL to barrel roll off the evade)

Expose/EI Chiraneau with a Jan Ors HWK (aka the "Second Death Star laser")

Scum Boba with Mara Jade

Leebo with Greedo and Determination

Ruthlessness IG88s (would spit damage out VERY fast to swarms)

Aren't you mixing Rebel and Imperial there?

Captain Jonus
4 Scyck + Mangler
+2 points for flavor

Sounds like quite a nasty swarm to me. Could even drop one cannon and upgrade to Serissu if you want extra defense.

Missed the part about Scum-only mixing. But the local FLGS is planning an "Anything goes" tourney, so I've been giving lots of thought to different cross-faction combos.

Jonus is 22 points, and each Scyk with a Mangler comes to 20, so you'd be sitting at 102 points with this list.
