Corran and the Aces - need help

By Kasuvari, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've decided to put together a small list featuring my favorite high PS aces, but wouldn't you know, the optimal build comes in at 101 points!

Corran w/ FCS and R2D2 - to have TL for second fire and R2 to keep him alive

Jake w/ Chardaan and Autothrusters - to move quick and stay alive

Keyan w/ PTL, E2 and Katarn - to gain stress, spend stress and gain a focus for defense

I like the pilot skills, so I don't think I would jump to a lower PS. I'm debating whether to loose autothrusters or downgrade R2D2 to an R2 and add something else.

Thoughts?

All great pilots but I think they are all not achieving their potential.

I'd drop Kyle. I've run that list. The extra focus on defense is never worth the 4 points when they can be elsewhere.

You need to have PtL on Jake to maximize his manueverability. You need to have Advanced Sensors on Keyan so that he can still get his action becuase you're going to make a lot of stress manuevers.

Personally, drop Kyle. Move the PtL to Jake. Put Advanced Sensors on Keyan. That leaves you with one point. I'd put a VI on either Jake or Corran with it. That will maximize your pilots a lot more.

And if you're asking about getting stress on Keyan. You will get a lot of that by doing 3 banks, and 1 turns. A lot of 1 turns. Especially the Advance Sensor barrel roll and 1 turn makes him kind of a Phantom. He gets his stress to spend.

Or you can add debris fields in your loadout as a plan to fly through them in necessary to add stresses.

Thanks Thespis. I like the idea of using Advanced Sensors. I guess using Kyle was a holdover from when I would use him in tandem with Jan Ors to turn the focus into an evade.

I'll run it and see how it works.

I ran the tweaked version of this at my FLGS X Wing night last night, and it did very well. It took apart a Kath Scarlet/Rexler Brath list quite handily, despite me not doing a great job of flying Jake. Definitely a list I'll be trying again. :-)

Jake Farrell (24)
Push the Limit (3)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Autothrusters (2)
Keyan Farlander (29)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Corran Horn (35)
Fire-Control System (2)
R2-D2 (4)
Total: 100

Its a good list and have had success with something similar but I really need to run it again.

I also have fallen for Kyle on Keyan but as Thespis has said its just not worth it on defence and AS was made for Keyan and his stressed out B-wing

Interesting lists that I will definitely try at one point. Unless you're set on Keyan, here are other suggestions that also keep the "Aces" theme:

Jake (Chardaan, VI, Autothrusters)

Luke (R5-P9, Lone Wolf)

Corran (R2-D2, VI, FCS)

100 points

Jake (VI, Proton Rockets)

Luke (Lone Wolf)

Corran (R2-D2, VI, FCS)

100 points

Jake (Chardaan, VI, Autothrusters)

Wedge (Lone Wolf)

Corran (R2-D2, PTL, FCS)

100 points

Jake (VI, Proton Rockets)

Wedge (Lone Wolf)

Corran (R2-D2, FCS)

100 points

So, all close variants. Proton Rockets pairs really well with Jake's ability. I know it's only good for 1 attack, but a devastating one. Everyone's a threat too, so tough choices for the opponent.

This list has been doing pretty well for me over the last few weeks. That said, it got absolutely taken apart by a Bounty Hunter, Turr Phennir (with VI), Carnor Jax list. Turns out high PS arc dodgers are a bit of a weakness, and the ion cannon on the Bounty Hunter caused serious problems for Keyan.

To be fair, your dice were also pretty poor as well...

When I build a competitive list I always go for a rough balance between my ships - everything should be similarly hard to kill, and similarly bad for my opponent if they ignore it for one of my other threats. The interceptors are both extremely threatening yet hard to pin down, while the bounty hunter is much easier to shoot but can also take a lot more punishment - and also stresses you when you fire at it. Whichever one you go after, the other ones will cause you problems.

That didn't help things, certainly... :) You list certainly succeeds in making sure there's no good targets.

I do keep pondering dropping something to get PtL on either Keyan or Corran, but the only thing I'd really be able to drop is the Advanced Sensors, and that does a lot for Keyan when he's K-turning.

I don't see how to add it to your list but Proton Rockets on an A-Wing can be devastating with the required focus and also a target lock.
