Fastest Devour Ever

By JerusalemJones, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

In the dozens (hundreds?) of Arkham games we've played, we had the fastest devour ever.

We were just finishing up the setup phase. I had picked Darrell Simmons, and was looking forward to finally getting to play him as a character. We drew the setup Mythos card -- and the first player had to draw two Innsmouth look cards. Now, in the last three months we've only had one instance when a player drew the Innsmouth look, so I felt very confident of my chances. The first card was safe, but the second...

Well, later that round my wife killed the Deep One that Darrel had become. She choose to place Darrel's marker on the Deep One, and liked to comment on how she killed me. It was pretty funny.

Nice, that's the 2nd devouring during the setup-mythos I hear from. The other one was:

  • Ghatanothoa (1/24)
  • Rex Murphy = first player (1/48)
  • Mythos: First player receives a clue (2/88 = 1/44, if I don't err)
  • Devoured (1/8)

Edit: That's 1/(24*48*44*8) = 0.00025% in a Kingsport game - congretulations, jgt7771! gran_risa.gif

Diabolical! I love it!

I think there's a Mythos card that makes you Lost in Time and Space. Against Yog-Sothoth, that could be a turn-0 devouring.

But I've got one during setup: in league scenario Chapter 3, players begin with corruption cards based on the number of clues you wish to place at the Bank. We drew so many that Mark got one that lowers your maximum sanity based on the number of corruptions you have (five). Mark was devoured immediately, taking Calvin with him.

Now I know Leagues are not a normal circumstance, but it was during an official game of Arkham. One devour and loss of Calvin before the first Mythos card was even drawn!

Thank you? preocupado.gif Yeah, we're using Rex as a coat rack.

Well, the math makes it even more terrifying. To be fair, though, I was using just AH and IH Mythos, with the BG Strange Sightings and Arkham Gate Bursts shuffled in. So I think that's 6 out of 113, or 1/19 approximately. So it's more like 0.00057%. Heh. WAY more likely! babeo.gif

Bigger points to JJones for finding a method of pre-game devouring ANY Investigator may enjoy!

Heres another:

1) Luke

2) Yog sothoth

2) Mythos setup: cosmic upheaval

3) Failed luck (-1) check = Luke pancake

For what it is worth I we had 2-3 investigators recieve the innsmouth look and become deep ones over the weekend. It always seemed to happen when a player drew 2 cards. if you drew 1 card or 3 cards you were safe, two cards and it was time to pick who you were playing next.
