The Guardian Mantis

By Wondergecko, in X-Wing

Great point! I'd actually love a sovereign states faction for X-wing. We could get into the Expanse, and their starfighters and stuff. Might be nice. I doubt we'll see it, as that content is so EU it's not funny, but I'd approve.

Double post, sry it would just refuse to post first time, then you press again... Oops...

I suppose. But I'm not entirely sure why we'd need it. To be perfectly honest, I kinda' like The Empire having cloaking as their own truly unique thing.

And i kinda would like every faction to have it. Imps got turrets, Rebels or Scum get stealth? Why not?

I initially hated the very thought of prequel ships, but some (ARC and ETA-2 for example) are growing on me. On the other hand, every prequel ship I can think of has an analogue in the civil war era that I like better.

ARC = skipray

ETA-2 (or any aethersprite or derivative) = a-wing/interceptor

N-1 = Z-95

Droid Fighters = no

I think the question isn't would FFG do it, but rather can they find a niche for the ship. I also don't see prequel era pilots (unless they were still active during the civil war). Luke Skywalker flying alongside his pre-teen dad and against...Darth Vader?

I know, suspension of disbelief and all that. That would just be too much (and too 40k insofar as offering special characters that died thousands of years before "current" time).

FFG could make 9 factions and I'd buy multiples of all the ships like the sucker nerf-herder I am for X-Wing.

Bless their souls they show restraint (and great game design).

Not fanboying it, by the way, just offering it up. That being said, I actually do like the look, and it was a joy to fly.

As for the timeline, if the Havoc's in, so is this; they're contemporaries. (And, of course, so is the Z-95, Y-wing, blah, blah, everything's ancient, etc.)

That's the best point to make here. If the Scurrg actually does get in, pretty much anything from the Prequel Era is fair game.

I disagree. Assume they bring in the Havoc. Ask yourself "why?"

Because if it was to bring in prequel ships, the Havoc really isn't very far up the list at all.

who wants to bet Nym's is season 2 of rebels?

If they're doing a pirate they'll do Hondo, firstly because they've already stated they want to bring him back and secondly because they like referencing themselves.

I think that -- and one can argue this point, of course -- if they were to bring in prequel ships, they would do so in a way that recalled the prequel movies as little as possible, hearkening to the prequel era (and grabbing those prequel ships that seem most seamlessly suited to the Galactic Civil War era) without the mostly negative associations of the prequel trilogy.
