Where are the space marines....the rest of the imperial guard etc.

By Manahotep, in Dark Heresy

as a LONG time player of both the video games and table top warhammer. the lack of classes true to the game is staggering. you release ONLY one of the rarest and most specialized of the space marines that can only be female..seriously??? who the heck made that decision....you? punch yourself right now really hard..

anyway its a great concept and long overdue but seriously WTF no space marines...and the content for imperial guard is sketchy at best. such a shame the game is awesome and has potential.

anyone know when FFG is gonna pull their heads out of their butts and give us the other 95% of the games classes..heck even5%?

Dark Heresy is not attempting to reproduce the video games or the table top miniatures game, but instead takes much of its inspiration from the books. You will find comparable classes to almost every character in the Dan Abnett books, not to mention Gaunts Ghosts and others. The Space Marines were not included because DH is not focused on huge galactic warfare, but on a more personal, 'man on the ground' approach.

That said, they are introducing Rogue Trader later this year and I hear a Space Marine book is in the pipeline - though neither one is designed with the intention of using it in DH - which is what you have been looking at thus far.

Of course, you'd know that if you'd done a little research ... now punch yourself in the face.

There are answers to the questions you're asking, but you have to ask nicely. We've known the answers to the questions you're asking for two years, so your frustration and anger are kind of unwarranted at this point.

Try writing in a respectful way that's easy for others to read. It's annoying to read posts that lack capitalization. If you're not going to take the time to treat us like we're worth your time, take your grumbling somewhere else.

Read the forum posting rules before you're reported.

Honestly, what's wrong with you. Space Marines in the Inquisition? This isn't what the game is for. Have you not done any research? Deathwatch is apparently the Space Marine 40KRPG. The way you come off typing there is quite illegible at best. I hope Pac-Man comes by to eat the excess periods at least. Maybe some capitilization? Ah, I'm asking for too much.

Were you honestly expecting Space Marines from this game? I know Tabletop can give the illusion that Space Marines are everywhere because honestly, how many people play them? I'm happy there is no Space Marines. I wouldn't play this game otherwise. I'm simply sick of Matthew Ward's Space Marines.

There's a fan supplement for Space Marines out there on the web. I don't know how it'd really look going into this game since it isn't really meant to handle Space Marines. As well, don't really see that character ever being out at all, except for combat because seriously, how many people are not going to notice a Space Marine walking around? That's just a beacon for all cults to go underground. Even not dressed up in their shiny apparel, I don't know anybody that'd be over 7 feet tall and be that huge and muscular otherwise.

What other classes are you even talking about? The classes we have look to be simple generalizations that span over the whole Imperium. The Guardsman class isn't only for them alone, you have Bounty Hunters, Mercenaries, etc. Scum? Murderers, criminals, normal day Joe.

You can simply open up some GM fiat to put in or remove as much as you want.

I really wanna hear the rest of these so-called classes that Dark Heresy is so badly missing to "complete" the game. bostezo.gif

Well, the Guardsmen and everything except Commisars ARE in the book. You basically look at the career paths, read them properly, and it tells you what sort of characer it can be applied to.

Imperial Guard

Assassins CHECK

Snipers CHECK

Sanctioned Psykers CHECK

Heavy Weapon Team CHECK

Bog standard IG Joe and all its assorted ranks CHECK

Storm Troopers CHECK

Clerics CHECK

Tank Crew CHECK

Sentinal Drivers CHECK

Rough Backs CHECK

Techpriest CHECK

All of them are in the main book, the bulk of them are the Guardsman career path, the Cleric, Techpriest, Assassin & Psyker are the only ones that have named career paths.

Then you get all the Eliet packages and Alternate career paths/ranks to specialise them even more.

However, some classes are only as powerful as the ones in the wargame once they've reached the End of their basic career track (the Assassins especially).

Likewise, some are more powerful due to all the new shiney things they get, like the Psykers.

The game is only what You can make of it, if you have a naff game then its because you're naff. gui%C3%B1o.gif

Imagination. Its what our hobby is all about!

Excuse me for being snippy, but if you want to play a space marine then an RPG is not the thing for you. Stick to video gaming and Table Top battlegames instead. Space Marines as characters hold either only a minimal or no roleplay value what so ever. They are just bred supersoldiers, who don't do anything but fight or train for upcoming combat. Sure, they might possess the intelligence of a human, but for all intents and purposes their role in Imperial society is little better than a servitor. It's just that no Imperial citizen would dare say it to a Space Marine's face, but still it does pretty much sum up their purpose in life.

I mean, even the Adepta Sororitas career path comes with some pretty heavy roleplaying limitations, and they are by far more human and "normal" in comparison to a space marine. Just imagine how huge said limitations would become if you were to actually play as a Space Marine.

I imagine it being something like this:

-"Hey, let's ask the space marine in our group about a certain topic!"

-"Just kidding, everybody in the group already knows what the Space Marine will answer, simply because he has to answer in that manner otherwise his player are not playing his role correctly. Oh well so what if all his said lines are completely unimportant? At least he gets to wear a power armour and have a bolter to shoot things with..."

... Like I said, minimal or no roleplay value what so ever...

from france

****, you have the dilplomacy skill of a hyena. ok i'am french and i write, i think ,correctly because i take time do so. You should do the same. this "request" make no sens you can't ask that a roleplaying game follow a table top game or a videogame. you said you have experience in both? well the vast majority of have a long experience. for my self i have 20 years of roleplaying and 15 of tabletop games. before this i didn't claim it because it is not the number of years that make you wise or not. and it seems that is not your case.

so please be gentle with the rest of us

May the Emperor watch over us and protect us from trolls.

Are trolls some kind of mutant? A heretek perhaps...? Anyway, cleanse in rightious fire, "sister Angela bring forth thy holy flamer". Sorry I know its a troll and I fed it *bows head in shame*.

Its ok, I would have if you didn't. But, as for roleplaying limitations for Space Marines. I believe that in this current setting, there is alot of limitations. However, I believe that in deathwatch the focus will shift from investigation and infiltration, to dealing with aliens, perhaps giving history and such for a space marine chapter to allow the players to roleplay different marines, from different chapters. How would an Ultramarine deal with getting the **** beat out of him by a spacewolf for remarking that the space wolf has not bathed in a week.

Nice, I'll have to remember that one. But anyway, on the original topic, as other people have pointed out pretty much everything claimed as "missing" is already there. About the only thing I didn't see in Dark Heresy was a satisfactory option for making a Death Worlder and even that can be fudged to a somewhat acceptable degree.

@Ranek: Which is probably why the third RPG will be played from the perspective of a multi-chapter agency like Deathwatch; it would otherwise be completely impossible to make role-playing space marines entertaining to anyone other then a hack and slash fan for any length of time without making the GM's head explode. Although granted, this is the guy who favors Space Merchant over Space Thug (even though in 40k it's probably more Privateer then Merchant) talking. Take that for what you will...

Inquisitor Kryptmann... 'nuff said. lengua.gif

That's it. I am going to run Rejoice for You Are True with four characters: a Land Raider AI, the Nightbringer, an Enslaver, and a Tyranid Norn Queen. The Land Raider AI also took the Moritat Assassin background package, so his treads have Tearing when he rolls over people.

Infilitrating the Alabaster Court should be an interesting experience. The Land Raider, being the infiltration specialist of the group, will have to dress up as a maid.

Vincentius Callidon Krin and Elsergi Krin, distant noble cousins discuss amongst themselves at the Alabaster court:

"Say, isn't that maid over there a bit plump around the hips?"

"Shh! Quiet you! She's new to the workstaff, and they say she suffer from bulimia, so don't mention anything about her weight !"

"Ah, my dear cousin! I do see your point, let's discuss that grim looking fellow wih the scythe instead."

"Indeed. Say he does look a bit pale and grumpy. Perhaps he has overslept ?"
