New Caprica Preview

By Melonball, in Battlestar Galactica

Last year some of us on the boards voiced concerns about how horrifying expanding this game is...

How the Clue Master Detective school of expansion pack wouldn't work to well because of the intricate balance, and really what would the odds be for these cats to be willing to devise virtually an entirely new game.

Holy ****, they did it.

I want.

no.

I covet.

Hey, I have no problem eating humble pie.

That being said, this expansion isn't just more characters and crisi...its a totally different game.

The best thing is it is all mix and match. Those who love the base game as it is get more characters to make things interesting, those who want more get Cylon leaders, Pegasus and New Caprica in whatever doses they choose. Characters such as Cain give you options if not using Pegasus so it all seems to fit nicely, though I would imagine it would be quite hard on the human with Treachery cards and no Pegasus.

I don't think you can use treachery cards without Pegasus. The "slot" for treachery cards is on the Pegasus board, so no Peg board = no treachery cards.

However, that leaves the question open of how do you deal with skill cards that have the "Reckless" keyword if not using treachery cards... preocupado.gif

I don't see a reason rules wise why you shouldn't be able to. you could always put the cards next to the board or something. You'd know they were treachery since there would only be one stack of skill cards without a label.

Of course you can . I just don't think it'll be covered by the official rules.

Sure indeed they will have rules for still playing with the treachery cards without the Pegasus stuff, as not only does Ellen Tigh & the Cylon Leaders draw Treachery, but also we have already seen multiple Crisis Cards that cause people to draw Treachery cards as well. Im assuming they will just have a rule that says "if not using the optional Pegasus board & rules, still use the treachery deck by placing it to the side of the board" as opposed to some kind of jank rules of "if not using the optional Pegasus board & rules, remove Ellen, all Cylon Leaders, a bunch of random Crisis Cards, etc, etc from use".

A thought occurs to me (It happens sometimes). Why would any human use breeder's canyon? It seems to me you'd want to keep Galactica away as long as possible in order to prep more ships for launch before the escape segment.

Once galactica arrives you still have another jump track to move up before the game ends. You can still launch and prepare ships during that time. My guess is that the New caprica crises don't favor the jump track moving up that much. Plus a skinjob could use it to abuse the resource loss or quicken the humans path to destruction. Or if the humans have rescued all their ships and are just waiting on the jump track to move, they may need to push it along, the space battle might be going very badly. I doubt this new game ending will allow either side to 'cruise' their way to victory. I expect every ending to have some intensity to it.

You may be right. However, it's very likely that the new crisis cards won't be mixed in with the originals - they'll be used just for a "season 2" game. So if you're using the new crisis deck, you also use the Pegasus board, the treachery cards and the Cylon leaders. If you're using the original crisis deck, you can't use the Pegasus board, treachery cards or anyone for whom treachery appears in their skill set. Maybe.

I don't think that there is going to be a completely new Crisis Card deck for the Galactica portion of the game. That would be way too many cards! I just assumed we would have some new crisis cards to mix into the original deck, and the deck of New Caprica crisis cards.

Well, maybe. But seeing as they got 70 crisis cards just from season 1/first part of season 2, it doesn't seem unreasonable that they could get another 70 from season 2/first part of season 3.

Plus, Corey has said in an interview that the journey from Kobol to New Caprica has more "story" to it than the journey from the Twelve Colonies to Kobol, which to me implies a new crisis deck.

Not too sure why Ellen Tigh is a political leader...unless you figure the end of the show, but even then. She doesn't really hang around Colonial One.

I'm rewatching the series with my mom and am currently at episode 5 of season 2. Since Ellen's introduction up till know, she has been shown to have connections and knows how to play the game of politics, in that respect, I actually find it kind of fitting for her to be a political character.
