Some of you may have noticed a new forum for Rogue Trader Special Edition . Can we consider this confirmation that there will a special edition? But why have a forum dedicated to it when Rogue Trader has it's own forum? Any why not make an announcement on the front page? Anyway, I'm hoping for a special edition. I was a bit miffed that I could not lay my hands on the Dark Heresy special edition.
Rogue Trader Special Edition . . . forum?
I am also puzzled by this... What was so special about the Dark Heresy special edition anyway?
Well, with the DH Special Ed., it meant you could get 3-4 copies and sell them on ebay for £500.
Lets hope a similar debacle doesn't ensue...

It was essentially an early-release, leather-bound, extremely-limited-edition version of the rulebook - a collector's item more than anything else. The entire run of 200 sold out in six minutes, and that was including the time taken to sort out server issues due to the amount of traffic recieved.

Ah, thanks. Yeah, sounds like something I'd put into a nice case instead of on my bookshelf where I can read it at my leisure. Thanks but no thanks.
I really want one, even if it ends up on my shelf, I really really want one.
Hope there are more than 200 this time though.
How much did DH special edition costed?

About £50 ($90)
I'm pretty sure it cost £90 not 50. I recall it costing ~ $200 AUD when I got mine.
Hellebore
In the UK I'm sure the DH special edition was £60, not £90. It was leather bound, with a big ][ on the front, and I think it came with a unique certificate in the name of one of the 200 Inquisitors of the Calixis Sector. Other than that, I THINK it was pretty much the same as the original BI DH book (ie with all the original errors, wrong Calixis sector map etc etc.)
Still wish I'd managed to get one!
It was around £75, but I can't for the life of me remember if that was before or after P&P. I'm thinking After
It was a leather-bound, gilt-edged copy of Rogue Trader with an inquisitorial I on the cover and three fabric placeholders, it came with a colour map of the calixis sector (which turned out to be wrong) and a certificate "signed" by one of the Inquisitors in the Ordos Calixis (mine was Inquisitor Pendeira, hence my old Black Industries username). It also came out a month before DH's retail release date.
Overall it was very worth it, and I was rather hoping they'd do one for Rogue Trader as well - in the same style, hopefully - but I'm still a little pissed at the fact the map was wrong, and with all the errata DH has needed over the years the book itself is semi-useless for actual gaming. Still, it's a beautiful thing that does sit on my bookshelf, but only because I don't have an appropriate cabinet for it (or space for one)
IF the RT special edition is in a similar style and quality to the DH one, I will certainly be attempting to buy it, but somehow I doubt it will be. Certainly I think stock will be higher for this one, but demand won't be *quite* so huge. It's worth remembering that there were two huge contributing factors to the demand for the DH collector's edition:
- It was the first chance ANYONE outside the company or playtesters had to see the full Dark Heresy rules
- the vast gap of time between CE and non-CE release (ok, you may consider these to be two aspects of the same thing, but I don't and it's my post)
that's what drove the massive demand, that's what caused the £500 eBay sales. These aspects will likely not be present in the FFG release.
"It was a leather-bound, gilt-edged copy of Rogue Trader "
WTF? I meant a copy of Dark Heresy , obviously. stupid time-locked editing.
Yes, it would be a beautiful thing to own... I'd hollow out my own grandmother and use her as a bookshelf.
Don't keep us on tenderhooks long, FFG!
