I just finished this short book that he wrote from the early 80s. Anyone else read it? I really enjoyed it although I have to admit I don't do well during some of the more graphic scenes unless I am on a full stomach, hydrated and have a place to lie down very close I loved the setting of the Mississippi and 19th century steam boats. Overall a definite recommend.

Yeah - excellent, excellent book. i had been trying to track it down for years before i came across ASoIaF. I had read a reference to ti in a Vampire The masuqerade source book back in '94 or thereabouts, and searched for it fruitlessly until 2002 when i tracked dwon a copy in England.
Very good, gripping vampire tale with vampires that are monstrous and evil and not tragically hip emo swooners. Plus some pretty nifty historical styuff thrown in. i lvoed it and highly recommend it.
I read it when I was about 13. I loved it. IT still comes in as one of my all time favorite vampire stories.
Great book for sure.
It's no Twilight though ~
Yeah, great book. Cool setting for a vampire story as well.
