Sign Here If Your Boycotting Tekken

By Nasuko, in UFS General Discussion

I remember hearing alot of people saying how much they hated shadowar. Know what happened? Those people relaxed a little and started playing cards from it. It's a great set with chars that have their own personal flavor and ways of winning the game. I know I was a little iffy on it when announced, but that hasn't stopped me from building one hell of a pack Zhao deck.

While you may be pissed about Tekken there are some like my brother that have all the sudden taken interest in UFS. The more lisences able to attract people the better. I can tell you there are alot of promo chars on their way to take care people's individual char wants.

So, I was just wondering if there was anyone else out there who was boycotting Tekken, and if so why. I persoanally am refusing to participate in the purchasing of this set, mainly for two reasons.

One, I cannot stand Tekken, but that alone would normally not stop me from buying the sets. The main reason I'm refusing to buy this piece of trash, is my second reason, which is the fact that I hate how this piece of crap managed to find it's way into this game before several other far more deserving titles, so until I see a new license that I deam more appropriate enter the fray, I will not purchase or own one single Tekken card.

Now that my small rant is done, let's see some names, and hear some comments.

Um...r u serious? I mean really, r u? Let's get something straight here, all the Tekken's with the exception of Tekken 4 were pretty **** fun. But I digress, the issue isn't the game itself but rather the license of the game that you wish to boycott. Regardless of what license UFS gets, there are going to be cards from several sets in which certain cards will be needed for competitve play. So, if you want to handicap yourself, feel free to. I don't care and to be honest, not alot of folks on the forums will really care. Hate to be a D-Bag, but this topic is going nowhere but downhill.

If there's anything that pisses me off, it's that I heard from a reliable enough source that James will not be allowing stupid characters suck as Gon, (the only one i wanted to play) the Boxing Kangaroo (the only one one of my friends wants to play) and lastly Kuma, which I believe this source said he wanted to play greatly. This pisses us all off, just because ONE person doesn't like us, and makes me extremely upset with James and this set.

Also, I suppose this means we won't be getting the awesome Hyena from KOF2006, because he's a 'joke' character?

Sodom and Birdie fans want a word with you out back. I tried to convince them otherwise but the guy that's been told he will never be able to play Sodom since 2006-2007 insisted you show up.

I think that very few if any players have 'signed' as your subject line requests.

Sadly you do come across as whining. FFG tries its best to acquire licenses, and some of the games that you 'think' should be licensed first and foremost are not acessible for whatever variety of reasons.

I guess what I'm saying is you shouldn't complain about stuff that you know little about.

My personal preference for Tekken is neither here nor there, I have never played it at a competitive level like I have the Street Fighters, Snk, and Darkstalkers series, but I have played it through completion (every iteration) becuase it is a fun game with interesting mechanics and yes, relatively flashy graphics. For the same reasons I buy and love soul caliber cards I will buy and love tekken cards.

What you need to do is identify where you draw the line between the game and the licenses and decide what is more important to you when making abuying decision. The game is the underlying mechanics and combination of card effects, wheras the licenses is the characters, the art, and whatever else you see on a piece of cardboard. If the latter is all that dictates your buying decision than you would likely be better off purchasing posters/art prints/(video games themselves) rather than expensive pieces of cardboard that are priced as such for more reasons than the latter alone...

This reminds me of all the people who were saying stuff like "OMG if they make Shadowar I'm going to quit, its not a fighting game and this game is just fighting games" "I'm not going to buy any Shadowar" "they are going to make the Shadowar cards over powered so people buy it". Yawn, most of those people bought Shadowar and loved it. I mean did you see anyone complaining about Shadowar after it came out? No. This is the same situation who ever is saying "wah I'm not going to buy Tekken" is going to end up buying it anyways.

Or maybe those who didn't buy ShadoWar didn't feel the need to share it with the forum. Everybody isn't as vocal as the OP about their purchasing decisions. And really, who cares who buys what? Does anybody care that I didn't buy ShadoWar? I hope not. I truly dislike generic fantasy art so I passed. I know several others who felt the same, but we didn't slam the board with our financial transactions. I feel a touch guilty now that I know UFS is in financial trouble, but since I ended up winning a box of ShadoWar I really have no motivation to buy it.

And yeah This thread is meaningless. I think i'll email a mod to delete it.

Just ignore this thread.

Bring on the wahmbulance.

If you don't like Tekken, don't buy it. No need to make conflict and troll the forums. We don't need more conflict. Go away.

you never know, a lot of the guys in my didnt like the fact that ShadoWar was coming out but as soon as they saw the cards they were like, I MUST HAVE THEM! A lot of people like the game for the mechanics and the fun of the rules. Our scout has never heard of any characters outside of darkstalkers but loves to play the game. So don't put it down. and this successful troll isn't successful.

Wow. I dont show up for a while because work's been kind of a pain, and I come back to this?

To the OP, you do realise that FF doesnt have complete control over the licenses it gets, correct? There may be licenses you want, but it's not a simple matter of FFG just saying 'We want to print cards for this license, let's go!'. Anyways, you might not like the game, but calling for a boycot, of all things, is effectively asking for people to like the same things you do. You dont want Tekken, dont buy it. Dont try to wreck it for anyone else who DOES like the game. Frankly, I've never been enamored with the game myself, but I'm willing to see the cards they put out for it. UFS has always been about mixing and matching various universes together, so I am looking forward to see what I can scavenge from it.

^ Adding to that, the Tekken franchise fits UFS better than most things right now with the addition of the Combo keyword.

Virtua Fighter would also be good in that regard. Too bad this game isn't in Japan or else that's the license they would have gotten before Tekken.

*wants Wolf in UFS - also, Brad. And Jeffry.

I dont think me or any of my players will be boycotting tekken. We werent sure about shadowar either but that turned out to be an awesome set (prolly one of the best ones UFS has ever had). I might not enjoy all of the licenses in the game as much as I do others ( SCIV fan here) but I do enjoy learning and getting into other great games.

i don't know if this has been mentioned before,

but if no one has noticed, FFG has been expanding games with licenses from companies they're already on good terms with.

from a business standpoint, the best way to expand is get more from the people who support you already.

like other people have mentioned many times, you have to support the game in order for it to expand.

this kind of expansion is great. they probably got a deal with NamcoBandai for adding Tekken.

wouldn't nearly cost as much as getting a license from a totally different company who doesn't know how they work.

i can see this as helping FFG out because if they just stick with the companies they're in good terms with now,

get all licenses (Power Stone, Rival Schools, i think are the only other fighting games missing, and MvC doesn't count),

and once they have that, they can present this game to other potential companies (Aksys, Midway/WB),

then present them with an awesome portfolio of titles, and good feedback from the companies with partnerships.

Goh Hinogami is the greatest thing that could ever happen to this game...well, maybe with the exception of (female) Poison or Dizzy.

Oh gawd can you imagine Goh? About a ton of 0 damage attacks that lead into devastating combos.

In b4 game dies because people refuse to buy licenses they don't like

Spoken like the admitted Tekken fanboy you are. Nothing wrong with that though, you've posted 1,000 reasons why you love the series. If there's one thing I can say for you is that you can't ever be accused of being a front-runner when it comes to the series. You've been nuts about it since long before I ever met you at the Purple Cactus and I'm sure you'll be one of the first to beat me at it, if you play the PS3 version online when 6 comes out.

What in God's green ******** are you talking about?

I've been nuts about it before you met me? HOW WOULD YOU KNOW IF IT WAS BEFORE YOU MET ME? Besides, I was never "nuts" about Tekken until I became engrossed in watching T6BR videos on YouTube, so there's your timeframe of when I might have become "nuts" about Tekken.

Also, I didn't say that because my Tekken-loving pride was hurt, or because they guy is ignorant in his assertion that Tekken ought not be a part of UFS or is a bad game.

No, I said what I said because when it comes to sharing your opinion online, there's nothing wrong with constructive criticism, harsh judgment, or Hell, even some blatant complaints or negativity.

This thread's purpose, however, is to openly disuade players from supporting FFG and not buy their product. Effectively, this thread is to promote the lack of buying (and thus helping the rapid economic distress FFG is already feeling) and thus lack of sales of the very game we come here to discuss on a daily basis.

**** that. Take your hate speech elsewhere.

I will welcome any attempt to do an Up Yours to the OP.

This thread is now about Virtua Fighter in UFS.

So do I.

I would especially enjoy seeing Lei Fei's stance mechanic work in UFS. I don't know HOW but it'd be rad. Maybe even adapt it to someone else who switches stances often in case of Lei Fei not being here ever.

I could go with Lei.

Since the start, I've had a soft spot for Lau. But Lei would be one of my favoruite, if not my favourite newer characters.

I'm Canadian all the way with Wolf, honestly, but we've had enough grapplers. Goh'd be interesting for the set-ups that could translate in 0 damage attacks that set up combos but other than that...

I haven't been able to get into Goh, and I've never been a fan of Wolf.

While I love (and I do mean love) Virtua Fighter - I find I have a very narrow set of characters that I'll play compared to other fighters where I will play over half the characters, for VF, I'll tend to stick to:

Lau
Lei
Shun
Lion

When needed... but I'll just button mash:
Vanessa
Aoi
Eileen
Pai

As compared to say Soul Calibur where I can play pretty much every character, just some better then others.

I got into Wolf solely because I saw him do the Giant Swing. Somewhat hard to play because your combos tend to be very unorthodox. Another one I enjoy messing around with is Brad - especially in 5 because you can easily shift from left to right as needed.
