City of Shadows agenda question...answered

By Ruvion, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

The wordings on the agenda says:

"Whenever you bring any card with a "House X only" restriction that does not match your House card out of Shadows, pay 1 additional gold."

This extra gold cost is in addition to the regular gold penalty associated with playing 'out of house' cards? So if I'm running this agenda, I am paying 3 additional gold to play a House X only that is 'out of house?'

EDIT: ah...the 2 gold penalties are for when OoH cards are played from hand and does not apply to put into play effects like bringing a card outta shadows. I now see on Tzumainn that Shadow crested cards with house designations all have the House X only restriction. You only need to pay a penalty of 1 gold in the above case.

Correct. Since bringing a card out of Shadows is a put-into-play effect, the "normal" 2 gold penalty is not applied. You only pay the 1 gold penalty imposed by the Agenda. This is an important point to remember for something like Balon Greyjoy. If he "steals" a non-Greyjoy card into Shadows with his ability, there would not be any gold penalty - only the "non s" part of the Shadow cost - to bring it out of Shadows.

Ah...didn't notice the difference between the Shadow agenda and Balon (that skinny man is a real swashbuckler!). Thanks ktom!
