This is aggravated by his retinue repeatedly doing all sorts of bad stuff (defying his orders, doing warp crack, keeping secrets about other members of the retinue being demonically possessed) and Ravenor being described as being brilliant, but not doing much to demonstrate said brilliance.
Uhm, I don't know about the rest of you, but that seems to sum up pretty much what every group of acolytes in Dark Heresy has done once or twice while in the service of ther Inquisitor. The thing with Ravenor is that his acolytes has to have a much longer leash since Ravenor can't keep constant vigil over their actions due to being confined in his chair.
My point is that all acolytes do bad things once in a while, whether it be pocketing illegal xenos tech for themselves (of which few of my characters are guilty doing) during a mission to flat out order refusal (of which one or two of my characters are also guilty of doing). There might be some serious control freaks among Inquisitors but I think that most Inquisitors are fully aware of the risks that their acolytes might do rogue actions, but simply leave the matter for later judgement.
In any case, the acolyte's actions (be they good or bad) doesn't necessaily reflect the abilities of their Inquisitors.
Very interesting.I have just gotten into the novels( which are great) so hopfully by the time i have caught up this new trilogy will be out.

He splits the focus between Ravenor and his retinue and the result makes Ravenor seem distant, passive, and not really in control of his people.
That is precisely what I liked about the Ravenor series. The rest of the retinue were also well-defined characters, and not disposable extras walking in and out of Eisenhorn's stage.
I liked Eisenhorn just fine, but three books of seeing no one but his character develop was not nearly as compelling to me as watching the dynamic of an entire retinue in Ravenor.
I liked that about the Eisenhorn series because of the way you could tell how he was falling to radical beliefs, and also im a hopeless romantic in 40k universe and was terribly sad he didnt end up with elizabeth
even inquisitors should have love! hopefully this new trilogy will see that happen......and then rip it apart, stab it in the heart, and burn it to ash

I was very sad about that as well, especially in Hereticus, when he hooks up with his old....friend. I wanted to smack him and direct his attentions towards the Cataconic Bequin.
Wait..how's she getting out of that Coma anyway?
probably a demon ritual or the fact she just randomly wakes up in Ravenors suspension field...who knows she may not be an unntouchable anymore!!! then she can be with Eisenhorn!!! YES
But then she'd be tainted by his radicaliness
I have a feeling that Cherubael will orchestrate something... Or Prophanti, to kill Eisenhorn for him banishing Prophanti (it only said Eisenhorn thought he destroyed Prophanti).
Prophanti will kidnap Bequin and pluck her soul from the warp, restoring her. Eisenhorn will hear of it and go to rescue his love, as we all know he will

ahh but she is an untauchable, she does not have a soul.
I am looking foreward to it with great interest though i sincerely hope she does not loose her "untauchableness" it was bad enough that Revenor's untauchable Frauka gor his burned out.
but otherwise I really think it will be very good (and inspirational for my Dark Heresy games...)

She does have a soul, it just doesn't register in the warp. ****, I just blew a hole in my own plot :@
ah yes but in the last novel she nearly blew out a corrupted MIU from a chaos titan who knows what that did to her warp signature
