Treaty With the Isles.

By foxpillow, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

Well, I'm hoping to get some actual fun discussion going (as opposed to WTF?! What a ripoff that Kings of the Sea expansion is!) so I figured I'd post my latest deck. It's only played one game against a Targ - Summer Attachment deck, so I'm not yet sure how it's going to run really, although it did win it's first game 15-2. It's a Baratheon Treaty With the Isles deck: I wanted to get away from power rush Baratheon and try out a control deck, but obviously every deck can be improved upon. Essentially, it's an income choke deck, but that's not the only focus I guess. I've got to be able to handle the opponent's characters and locations as well as keep them from reaching the paltry 10 power line (assuming they aren't playing a treaty, of course). Right now it's 62 cards, which is okay, I guess, I prefer to play 60, of course, but I thought I'd add the 2 Support of the Kingdom's just in case.

Here's the deck with comments:

Baratheon - Treaty of the Isles

----- Plots (7) avg income: 3.1 -----
Stay of Execution 4-4-1 (With Robert and Renly and Alannys and likely Balon once I get my fingers on KoS, it seemed appropriate)
A Time for Ravens 4-2-1 (I guess a "duh")
Summoning Season 4-3-1 (I kind of hate this plot, but I sometimes NEED Renly or Sam for draw power.)
Blockade 0-4-1 (Generally good.)
Valar Morghulis 2-0-0 (I'm not sure about this, I think I might switch to Wildfire)
Fury of the Stag 5-7-1 (Mmhmm)
An Empty Throne 3-5-1 (Mostly I figured it can't hurt with Renly, open to different ideas)
----- Characters (27) avg cost: 2.1 ----- (They seem mostly good so far, I will probably try to fit Balon in and I forgot to add King Robert's Host, whom I think would do well.)
Robert Baratheon x1 The Tower of the Hand F46
Seaside Urchin x3 The Tower of the Hand F50
Desperate Looters x2 Scattered Armies F101
Alannys Greyjoy x1 Refugees of War F89
Renly Baratheon x1 The Raven's Song F64
Samwell Tarly x1 The Raven's Song F66
Shadow Stalker x2 A Change of Seasons F46
Wintertime Marauders x3 A Change of Seasons F47
Ice Fisherman x2 The Winds of Winter F29
Carrion Bird x2 The Winds of Winter F35
Selyse Baratheon x1 Core Set B70
Melisandre x1 Core Set B74
Maester Cressen x1 Core Set B77
Salt Wife x2 Ancient Enemies F36
Maester Wendamyr x1 A House of Thorns U20
Asha Greyjoy x1 Iron Throne Edition U67
Wex Pyke x1 Iron Throne Edition R73
Euron Crow's Eye x1 Winter Edition R66
----- Locations (19) avg cost: 0.6 ----- (Kind of a lot of redundancy, the Besieged Shipyard works really well, though. I should add Claw Isle as well. Both are wonderful with my Agenda)
Narrow Sea x3 Core Set S33
Sunset Sea x3 Core Set L65
Stormlands Fiefdoms x3 Core Set B92
King Robert's Chambers x1 Core Set B94
Besieged Shipyard x2 Epic Battles F74
Aeron's Chambers x1 Iron Throne Edition U80
The Iron Mines x3 Iron Throne Legacy Pack F23
Iron Island Fiefdoms x3 Winter Edition C83
----- Attachments (10) avg cost: 1 ----- (Kraken Tattoo is kind of just in on a lark, really. Makes my bara characters ironborn which is nice with salt wives, and it was nice having it on Robert with an Urchin out in a game situation, but they're probably not needed. War Horn is my only real location hate, but it's effective.)
Kraken Tattoo x2 City of Secrets F10
War Horn x2 The Winds of Winter F23
White Raven x3 The Winds of Winter F24
Motley x2 Core Set B67
Milk of the Poppy x1 Core Set B145
----- Events (6) ----- (LOTS of influence makes Confession an easy play. Westeros Bleeds...well, I had one in hand all game and never needed it, but it is a nice security blanket, I think.)
Support of the Kingdom x2 Core Set B172
Westeros Bleeds x2 Core Set T176
Confession x2 Iron Throne Edition U176

I'd love ideas and criticisms; I kinda wanna make this thing my baby. I know it can be made better, I kind of threw it together mostly because I love Greyjoy and because it seems everybody hates Treaty with the Isles. I figure it might lose more games than it wins, but at the very least, it's different.

I don't know enough about the cards to give you some advices but I really like the idea and it motivates me to do something quite similar (well A Bara/GJ deck, but with my own mixture ^^).

I'd probably swap out Westeros Bleeds in this deck for Seductive promise.

Shadow Stalker, Wintertime Marauder, and Warhorn are just cruel together.

I had considered Seductive Promise, but I don't think I win too many power challenges by 4 or more and really, my power icon distribution is somewhat lacking (something I'm looking to fix).

I do agree that those three cards in particular are nice together, though.

Loking more closely at your characters you are right, you are a little light on power icons. I have to say though that some slight adjustment of intimidate and stealth mixed with kill and discard effects of the previous named cards (and in general your income choke keeping their board light in more powerful characters) it shouldn't be too hard to win by four against some houses. Bara or Targ may be a little much, but it shouldn't be that hard to hammer the other houses.

I've been fiddling with a Stark treatied with Greyjoy deck and am looking forward to adding some of the new GJ expansion cards to it.

For your deck, perhaps King Balon's Host would be a better choice than King Robert's Host. Balon's Host has a great ability (as does Robert's) and with Salt Wife and Maester W you have some potential saves for it that you don't for King Robert's Host.
