Set 4 Ruling Questions for Jaffer and Rob

By WayToTheDawn, in Rules Discussions

Hey guys. Noticed there's a ton of new ruling questions for Set 4 so I'm gonna compile a list over the weekend and send them to Jaffer and Rob.

Here's the answers we've gotten so far, feel free to ask more.

- Is DiZ's Attack Boost to a Riku Player Card permanent?

This one we had to take to the original designer: The five counters on DiZ count as +1 Support modifiers for both DiZ and Riku. On DiZ, they are permanent modifiers, giving him, when he comes into play +5 Support or +7 Support total. You can optionally transfer 1 counter per phase to Riku (only) and give him +1 Support for that phase. Once the phase is over, the +1 Support counter on Riku is discarded. DiZcarded.

- When your Valor form is discarded which Equipment is discarded with it...can you choose or does it have to be the second one you equipped?

You can choose.

- How do Previous Set cards interact with their Set 4 reprints? Hades being able to discard Phil for example...can he only discard Set 4 Phil? or both? With the lack of World Symbol on older cards and all that it could get a bit confusing.

As of now, they don't. At the time of this writing, no cards are illegal so a card must have a world affiliation to be affected by something. Therefore, Hades does not affect old Phil...only the new with the world icon.

- Does the Set 4 Leon pull a Hollow Bastion World Card or a Hollow Bastion Themed card?

Just the Hollow Bastion World card.

- Can the new Oathkeeper only be equipped via a Kairi in play, Hayner's effect, or Roxas' effect? (let me know if I need to clarify this one...it's a bit confusing to explain.)

Yes. It's a bit involved. Roxas can be equipped with an Oathkeeper before play starts, but not during play (since he can't have Kairi as a Friend), unless he uses Hayner's _v_ effect. Sora can equip Oathkeeper so long as he has Kairi in his Friend Area.

- If I have the Set 4 Oblivion Card Equipped to my player card, can I still play, from my hand, the Oblivion Attack Card from Set 2?

Yes.

I actually asked about Diz and Phil already Mr. Dawn since I was wondering that myself.

Well...fine then...

i see how ya are...

It's cool...I'll just be over here...

*comforts*

I sent it before I knew you were compiling a list =/

Well if they get the same question twice, they might look into it more. So it could be a good thing.

Anyway, I do have a question....

Does the new Leon pull a Hollow Bastion world card or any Hollow Bastion themed card?

Don't forget to ask about Oathkeeper (can it only be equipped via Kairi/Hayner?).

Oblivion Equipment and Oblivion Attack. 3 - 1? Or if you only have the Equipment, you can have 3, but if you include the Attack card, you can only have 1? (Am I even making my question clear?)

I think that's all from me... aside from Roxas questions posted elsewhere =)

First: Mr. Dawn asked if he was missing anything. I assumed he meant that he was looking for other questions; I thought I'd help. My mistake *very heavy sarcasm, yet delivered with a smile*

Second: I don't have e-mail addresses for these people gran_risa.gif

I didn't know people were so interested in my that they asked so many questions...

I will throw out that I'm 18. XD There is an answer to the many questions about Roxas. lmao.

Oh! It was a joke...

I don't know if I'm amused or sick to my stomach...

Anyway, I missed the intended humor, and for that I apologise.

- Speaking about Oblivion Equipment and Oblivion Attack cards. If you're currently equipped with an Oblivion Equipment card, can you actually play the Oblivion Attack card out of your hand, despite about having one card on the field with same name can be on play field, except for Dark cards?

- Can you have Magic cards, such as Fire x3 from the Base Set and Fire x3 from the Set 4: Break of Dawn, in the same deck? Or Dark Cards like Parasite Cage or Hades from the Set 2: A Darkness Awakened and from the Set 4: Break of Dawn? Or even in the case Highlander format, having only 1 from Original and 1 from the Remake? Does anyone get my drift?

- When discarding Axel's Rings card, does the damage apply just for that one turn and can you add up by discarding multiple Rings cards on the same turn? Plus, can you also use the Rings's affect during a battle on the Dark/Nobody cards on your world to further add damage?

Good question. Send this one in.

No. Fire Lvl 2 and Fire Lvl 2 have the same name. Just like Phil and Phil & Hades and Hades. Cards like Selphie Lvl 0 and Selphie Lvl 1 are different though.

Not sure I understand this one. Discarding the Rings is sort of like playing a Magic card, it does damage, then it goes away. If you discard the Ring off Axel, it no longer would give him the +3 boost. The Rings ability to do +4 Fire damage comes into effect whenever you use Axel to play a Fire Magic card. Does this help?

Tehe... that didn't work right. Just read the whole thing =)

No. On the Rings subject.

I'm asking if you can use Rings's discarding damage effect during in a battle or outside of battle and does the damage stack up for discarding multiple within the same turn or at that moment you decide to discard.

There is nothing on the card about a multiplier. Fire Magic cards do +4 while equipped. Discard it for 3 damage.

If you discard two Rings, they will do 6 damage.

If you're on Agrabah 3, Axel has 1 Ring, and you play Fire 2... hmm, does the multiplier or the increase happen first? Does the equation look like this:

2 x 4 + 4 = 12

Or this:

2x (4 + 4) = 16

I believe it's the former, but that might not be your question either...

In any case, I'm not sure what you're asking, and I'm sure that's frustraiting you. Anyone else know how to answer?

Ugh...I didn't say anything of a "multiplier!"

When I meant "multiple," I meant multiple copies of the Rings card, not just the one currently equipped on the Player Card, but also the possible reserves currently in hand as well. This is nothin' to do with any doubling effect cards! Just plain Rings cards alone. Nothing else on this subject.

I'll say it again, just plain and simple, can damage stack up on one target for just discarding Rings during within that moment or the duration of the whole turn? Plus, in terms of using the discarding effect of the Rings card, can it be used outside of the battle phase (not challenge phase) and during in the battle phase? Does anybody else get what I'm asking, other than BP?

from what i read from the card you can discard it whenever you want as damage is only reset at the end of the turn (at least that's what i think the rule book says).

basically from what your saying
Yes you can discard the rings during the action phase, and yes if you discard 1 ring you deal 3 damage then you can play another and discard that to deal 3 more, untill you have no others.

that's what i get from the text written on the set 4 spolier list made by Darkwing Duck.

I believe this would be the correct answer to that question.

Another question about how many Oblivion attack and Equips you can have in a deck: You can only ever have 1 Oblivion Attack in a deck...so you could have 1 Attack and 2 Equips, or 3 equips...I don't believe there's any other combination. To simplify, they both have the same name, so regular deck building rules apply...same goes for all other cards with the same name (Parasite Cage, Phil, etc.) Only if they are a friend and have a different level are they "different" (i.e. Selphie from Set 2 and Selphie from Set 4)

I actually emailed Jaffer a couple questions last week and here's what I got as a couple responses. One is relevant to your list there, Dawn.

(> = my question, Jaffer's responses follow)

---

> What happens if both players hit 0 hp simultaneously? (Now possible with Event 1)

The active player (the player who plays the event) goes to 0 first and loses.

> Does Kingdom Key take off HP in addition to the -1 normally taken from the challenge?

Yes. The other effect is a bonus.

> Do "Rings" add +4 to all Fire effect magic cards, or just to the specific "Fire" Magic Card? (Fire L2)

Just Level 2 Fire. (If it said "fire effect" I would have said otherwise)

> Are any of the older set characters going to be changed to have Home World Icons?
> (If not, Hundred Acre Wood really doesn't have much effect at the moment)

No. We thought it would be easier if we just consider printed Home World icons. Therefore, yes, OAW doesn't do much at the moment.

> Is Peter Pan really supposed to be a magic/friend? He was a summon in Kingdom Hearts 2, so I guess it makes sense.

He's probably supposed to be a Friend and the Set IV version has a typo, however, I think it doesn't really break the game if he is a Magic/Friend and can therefore just pop into play during a Challenge.

> From Set 3: Can Fairy Godmother's ability be used during the Challenge Phase? If so, can it be used on your opponent's turn if they challenge you?

I would say yes.

Cool, thanks Oathkeeper.

I've sent off the other questions so far and Jaffer responded that he would need to bring up some the questions to the Designer and he'd get back to me in a couple days.

Yeah that's what I got too.

Have a question. Hayner Lv 1 says to choose an oathkeeper equipment and attach it to my player. What if I already have an oathkeeper or other equipment on my player? Do I attach another one, or will this effect become a "you may"?

Alright, what's this mean? What's the effect as of current? I'm a bit lost on it.

I think it means that our lovable tig swapping for 8 (11 with roo) and poo always stopping battles against you just don't work.
