Princes of the Sun (FFG)

By The Spaniard, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I'm waiting eagerly for some promised news about "Princes of the Sun" and this expansion is not at the "Upcoming" section, so I wonder:

a) it is not at concept stage yet

b) they forgot to put it there

c) it will be pack of reprints, so no concept or development is needed

d) ?

d) its probably not going to be hinted about until late fall/early winter

Gencon seems as good a time as any to announce it. Isn't that what it's for.

(It would be really awesome to have early copies there ..)

I wouldn't count on it. Two reasons:

1) if the game would be available at GenCon, it would pretty much be in production. And it sounds like changes will be made that will affect production, and changing it mid-production would be expensive.

2) Having a limited group of players with access to a select set of cards goes against the LCG model and philosophy.

At the most they might spoil a few cards from the set at Gen Con, and then post them on the site the following week.

I think the quote Rogue30 is referring to is this one:

FFG has been working on this issue in the past few days, and we'll be announcing a change in the "Princes of the Sun" contents sometime next week – so please stay tuned to the website.

Christian promised an update on the expansion, not a release of the expansion.

Mr. Petersen,

I found it very reassuring to read your post. I'm a casual player by definition (one copy of everything), and I, like some others, was a little disappointed that the distribution of gold and discount locations in the Kings of the Sea expansion didn't match the distribution of the Core Set decks. It did make me wonder if the focus of the game was moving towards the three-of-everything players, and whether it was worthwhile to keep buying at my casual level, or whether I should just stop. But you've reassured me here that you're keeping the casual players in mind; so I'm going to pick up a copy of Kings of the Sea and continue buying chapter packs, and I'll look forward toward the Princes of the Sun expansion.

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your personal involvement, and I'm glad to know that you're listening to feedback. Judging from the product description of "Princes of the Sun," you're already addressing the issues I had: price point/# of cards, location scarcity, and selling the resin house card separately. It's because of this kind of responsiveness that I'm going to keep on buying.

Thanks,

Nate

Hey, did anyone check out the house card and the box at GenCon? Very cool.

Is there a chance FFG will release the cards from the Core set, KotS and PotS without the extra bits ( rulebook, board, coins, title pieces) in a single packet for a moderate price?

as mentioned by others:

could it be that in the GJDeck of the KOTS Box only miss 4 cards to make it fairly playable against the other CoreSet decks??? especially 4 locations.

what if FFG put those 4 missing locations in the upcoming Princes of the Sun Box. wouldnt that be great!

just 4 missig cards!!!!!!!!!!!!! so the GJ-Deck would have also 10 locations like the others.

i remember FFG replaced once a misprinted Card from Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition. that was cool!!!

infact:

i just have the coreset and the first 12 packs each once. and i´d thought that would be enough to play it fairly (not competitive). like its posted on many sites in the i-net. and on FFG´s Too!

is it not?

i was willing to introduce this game to my playgroup soon. and hope that GreyJoy and Martell will join in some day. but what if we can not play GJ and M. because of missing resource locations.

"PUT THOSE 4 MISSING LOCATIONS, TO MAKE THE GJ-DECK PLAYABLE, IN THE NEXT BOX!"

and dont forget to put (maybe 10) locations in the MartellDeck gui%C3%B1o.gif

could it be that the 4 missing loc. cards for the GJ-Deck.

are:

Gatehouse (2x)

Iron Island Fiefdoms (1x)

Crossroads (1x)

by adding these 4 cards in the KOTS-Box the GJ-Deck would be perfectly playable against the other Coresetdecks. and would be playable-out-of the box

or not?!

question is how i can get those 4 cards???

do i have to buy another CoreSet and another 2 KOTS-Boxes?

**** thats not hot. llorando.gif

Yes, it will be great if they do this:)

They won't. I'll bet you any amount of money that they won't.

HAve you tried playing a Melee game yet with the KotS deck against the other four decks, or replacing one of them with Kots for a four person melee? The location destruction and saves makes up for the lack of resources. Your ability to remove your opponents locations and save your characters is more than equal to their ability to put out an additional location or two and use it to field an additional character or two.

KotS was not intended to give you an LCG tournament level deck, it was meant to give you a House Greyjoy deck that could be competitive against the other Core Set decks, in that environment. Considering it was a Greyjoy deck, built the night before, that one the World Joust Championships, I'm going to say that the set also made it possible for Greyjoy to be competitive as a Joust deck after customization.

Buy it, play with it, and then make an honest determination whether it cannot stand against the other houses.

Well spoken...

Going all the way back to the original post here, as someone that just got back into the game and just had to open 3 packs of Kings of the Sea to get some basic non-uniques for my most recent deck I'm really impressed with the change for Princes and the posted response on these forums.

I was interested in getting into the game when Kings of the Sea was about to be released. But when it released and I read about all the public backlash about the price and the cards, etc. I steered clear of joining the ranks of AGoT LCG.

I've played the Core Set before and I enjoyed it. I love the characters and story of AGoT.

Since I didn't get into AGoT, I decided to buy into Warhammer: Invasion, which I am glad I did...

I'm hoping that when Princes of the Sun releases, I might be able to get into AGoT with a competitive Martell deck. I don't look forward to joining the game so late and having to buy 3 copies of every core release and chapter pack, which is why I'm hoping Princes of the Sun is done right and will allow for new players to get into the game.

Don't feel that you have to buy 3 of everything to be competitive. There are several chapter packs that I have only ever bought one or two of, and I still have only picked up one Kings of the Sea expansion, and my Greyjoy deck is doing very well in our local meta.

I will agree about Warhammer, though. That is a great game. But what I like about the LCG model is that I can actually afford to play both Game of Thrones and Warhammer, and don't have to choose which one to play because they both require huge $$ investments.

i totally agree.

if AGOT would have changed to LCG i wouldnt play it either of same reason.

People, it is my first post here. So I'll just begin saying that I've read a lot of previous posts and this is an amazing forum, with really good minded people bringing excellent arguments.

Sorry if my english is not very good, I'm from Brazil. And, well, G. R. R. Martin is really helping me upgrade my vocabulary. ;o]

So, to the topic: do you all have Princes of the Sun in your hands right now? Does your local stores have them?

I've ordered the Core Set and KotS from CoolStuffInc, but since a friend of mine is going to NYC for vacations with her family, I'm thinking asking her to buy PotS and some Chapter Packs for me. The problem is that they didn't get it at The Compleat Strategist yet! So I'm biting my nails... :]

Thanks a lot to share my anxiety! ;]

Hi Pedro you must have some out of date information. I picked up Princes of the Sun from The Compleat Strategist last Saturday and they still had some more copies of it for sale then..... Good luck acquiring it -- it's pretty awesome!

thank you, schrecklich! I didn't found it in their website. but I've already sent and e-mail, hope they reply soon. I'm running out of time!

Amen to that. I am getting Kings of the Sea in a few days as an Xmas gift, but have been having an awesome time playing w/ just the core set, it is an amazing game. Now I just have to figure out how to sort of incorporate the new cards from Kings of the Sea into the core set decks and make sure that they are all sort of equal with respect to ability so that when people come over we can trade off who plays what deck, and none of them feel vastly better than the other.

*on a side note, if any of you know people looking to buy Magic: The Gathering cards.....

Lol, I sold alot of my magic cards for store credit and got a bunch of chapter packs in exchange for Game of Thrones, need about 9 more and I have at least one of each. And I got Kings of the Sea today so now I just need Princes of the Sun and I have both large sets.
