Chaos Flare - good or amazing

By Protoaddict, in UFS General Discussion

I've been looking at this card a good long time and I'm convinced once block 3 rolls around it will make a huge splash. It's been around for some time now but is often overlooked in the current block because of how efficent feline spike or chain throw absurd builds are, but since it was one of the few cards to recieve the gift of a 4 point shuriken I think once block 2 rolls around it will be a devistating attack that will see a lot of play. Lets take a look at how it works on all 3 of its symbols:

EARTH - This one is the most apparent. With earths stock of large hand size characters like Gen, leona, and Koyshiro and average to above average life (leona excluded of course) combined with Ways of Punishment and the rest of its hand removal, its rather simple to nuke a players hand and 1-2 punch someone with this and any other attack in earth arsenal. Earth also has the support to prevent any responses that may prevent this attack from connecting or reduce damage. Access to Battle Prowless make the investment of life even less risky. Really the only thing they need to worry about is rejection and gorgeous team or hybrid style loops, and ocladans is readily available to earth so I dont think they have too much to worry about there. The only reason that Chaos flare may not see play in an earth build is simpily because earth can use reverse flayer and follow up with any number of 10 damage attacks without every having to spend the life.

DEATH - Death as we all know has long searched a good kill card and this may be right up its alley. Death has some similar tricks to earth in that it has some select discard items like Sakyo-Ryo, Unorthodox Training, or The Corsair Under the Skull and Crossbones to push attacks through, it also has no memories to say nono to rejection. Deaths biggest problem likley will be its probably the least capibale of having to run 2 checks as it needs to set up early and its so so character selection.

LIFE - Sleeper hit of the season. Life has always been a mixed bag, it currently has some of the best speed pumps in the game, fully capible of pushing its major hits through. Leonas support brought Origins Unknow and Heidern's Assassination Arts, both of which can provide massive speed boosts to chaos flare or any fire/life or earth/life attack as early as turn 2. KFT serves 2 pourposes in the deck, pushing attacks through and preventing rejection or board clearers/discard. Combined with some of the best life gain in the game (Battle prowless) Life can completley mitigate the life lost from flare and characters like Yang make sure that the attack isnt getting hit by rejection. Life also has the luxury of access to cards like forethough, the anti K', and spirit of athens. Early CC hax as we all know can grant a player a time walk which for a deck that already has fast set up usually means a win, but late game it can also mean hax on a kill shot. Lifes lower difficulty High speed attack base also helps it mitigate the 2 check of chaos flare with attacks such as senkyutai which can help prevent R based nonsence as well as Toro Zan which can easly turn itself into a Speed 7 attack for a kill shot without much effort.

I've been considering using chaos flare in a death/evil Zi Mei build I've been contemplating. seems like it'd be fun to go chaos flare/ tsurane kiri/ mega spike having emptied thier hand with ways of punishment and company.

A bit combo-heavy, but my favorite way to abuse Chaos Flare is with Juli:

Chaos Flare, pay to 1, Admiration, Death Cross Dancing, E Commit with Juli. Chaos Flare becomes a 27 mid for 3, pumping the next attack by 24 speed and damage.

Chaos Flare is good people.

I did some dumb stuff with Chaos Flare in my Death Mr. Karate, but I mostly played it so that Rera Kishamon Tek could be played at 3 difficulty. That whole strategy was absurdly stupid in Mr. Karate given his damage boost and 28 vit. Although, I was using Soul Power to push it through most of the time since it was for the Death event.

I can at least testify that it easily has great potential.

I'll argue that it's just good, amazing if you combo, but honestly, you have to have your combo in order to play it, and unless you can make sure it happens more times than it doesn't, eesh...

Flare is presently the only viable way to build a B3 Life deck without splashing Spike ftw, and probably a lot more viable than Deceptive Look in B2...

I'm suddenly inspired to try an Alex deck using his draw to setup a huge board including 1 Nijitsu, enough forms to make Ninjitsu go through and 2x Heidern's to speed pump the hell out of Flare and any other move (Sakura's Shinku Hadoken, Widowmaker, Ninjitsu). I wish Life had something like Ichi no Tachi, sigh.

Chaos Flare is super nasty, I have it my Kyoshiro deck and its just brutal. With his sick draw power you are looking at turn 2-3 kills, plus earth has access to commit effects and Olcadan's so problem foundations can be dealt with. Its going to be an awesome card for earth, with most earth characters you are not even going to have to lose a ton of life to kill your opponent, and you have tons of damage redux if it back fires.

I like it a lot, since we've been playing block 3, it's been our primary kill condition for all three of its symbols. I also used it in my decks for all 3 patch events haha. As Fred stated, all three symbols have great ways to push it through (earth and death are superior with the discard). Life, however, needs to catch people off guard more than the other symbols as it really has no way to control the opponent's board or hand. So a quick strike from Life is the best way to go, still, it is easily the weakest of the three symbols in block 3.

You had better be able to protect your next attack from Rejection, or else you may as well just scoop it up when you see it hit the board.

But as mentioned, the symbols it has on the card all have ways of dealing.

Anyone who throws this attacks and dosent plan for something like Rejection deserves to be at one life. Likewise anyone who throws it and dosent Ocladan that GTeam away first...

True. stupid is as stupid does I suppose. the promo Cassandra deck I ran awhile back used a lot of discard to make sure my plans came to fruition.

Jilu2
