Zi Mei Lock down

By Muftuk, in UFS Deck Building

Ok. So now that I got your attention demonio.gif I have been trying this deck out with some success, but it still feels like it is missing something.

Zi Mei **

2 Characters

2 X Promo Zi Mei

6 Actions

3 X Kung Fu Training (Fire)

3 X Wilful/Warriors Path (I have been switching in between them both in testing) (Air, Chaos, Fire)

5 Assets

3 X Seal of Cesation (Infinity)

2 X Path of the Master (Infinity)

18 Attacks

4 X Execution Technique First Rite (Air, Chaos, Fire)

4 X Execution Technique Second Rite (Air, Chaos, Fire)

4 X Execution Technique Third Rite (Air, Chaos, Fire)

4 X Zi Mei's Wheel Kick (Air, Chaos, Fire)

2 X Fury of the Ancients (Air, Chaos, Fire)

28 Foundations

2 X The King of Fighters 2006 (Air, Chaos, Fire)

3 X Perfect Sense of Balance (Air)

3 X Chinese Boxing (Air)

3 X Hwang's Protection (Air, Chaos)

4 X Communing with the Ancients (Air, Chaos, Fire)

3 X The Red Lotus of the Sun (Chaos)

3 X Tira's Contract (Air, Chaso)

4 X White Magic (Air, Fire)

3 X Shooting Capoera (Air)

So the basics of the deck are spam some foundations on the first turn or two. And use either the execution techniques or Fury of the ancients multiplied with Path of the master as the kill shot. I am still in a self-debate on whether or not I should keep in the red lotus or not. Any thoughts or opinions are greatly appreciated. I think this could be a viable deck, I just need you guys out there to help me tweak it to perfection.

Thanks Muftuk

I think you've got the right idea with 2.Zi Mei. I would take a look (or second look, if you've already done so) at the following:

Professional Soldier ...1/5 Air/Chaos foundation that is a decent replacement for LotM. I think, since you are running The Rites and Fury that you need a secondary momentum generator. White Magic is good, but not good enough by itself.

I think Savage Fighter and Commitment to Excellence are excellent damage pump devices that combos well with your attack line-up. Actually, and come to think of it, i think i would run a bit more Chaos foundations. There are a plethora of Air/Chaos foundations that are worth running: Soul of the Ling Shen Su is one. Kabuki Artist is another great foundation that allows you to pick up cards from your discard pile.

Another Chaos foundation that i would seriously consider maindecking is The Bigger They Are... Hi my name is Zi Mei, and i'm a lot smaller than most of my opponents, and that means i'm really a 9 or 11 hand-size character.

I think you could also improve how well your deck passes its attacks if you streamline how many attacks you're running. I have a very similar build with 2.Zi Mei, and i run only 14 attacks:

4x 1st Rite, 4x 2nd Rite, 3x 3rd Rite, and 3x FotA. Seriously, this is all you should need.

Hope this helps some...

Thanks for the advice. I had savage fighter and commitment to excellence in the original deck but at that time they just seemed to fight everything else for wanting to come out of my hand.

Never really thought about profesional soldier, and even with give up a card from the staging area it would make the unique path of the master not so dead in my hand (though it does have a nice little +2 mid on it). Soul of the Ling Shen Su is another one that didn't make my cut the first time around, but with the ways the checks are coming out I'm thinking that it might be work it to put back in.

I really appreciate the advice and just keep it coming.

What's really cool, imo, is that Zi Mei's support has both Air and Chaos (and Fire, too), and a lot of the foundations that have both of these symbols are really good and worth running, so it's not hard at all to build a dual symbol deck.

Here's a tip the former Scout at my store taught me when i was first getting into this game, and this is something that i still find useful when deck-listing. Start with 48 cards that are essential to your deck: 16 attacks + 32 Foundations. Traditionally, what he would have me list was 4-ofs. Once those 48 cards were chosen, then you had 11 or 12 slots of wiggle room to round out your deck, before play-testing.

Now, having said all that.. Assume your build has 32 foundations, or 8 different foundations that are 4 copies each. At least 4 or 5 of these foundations MUST have both Air and Chaos, leaving 2 or 3 'slots' to have either-or. You will find, as i have, that this really helps prevent turns where you're stuck being only able to pass 1 or 2 foundations because of mis-matching symbols.

I think if you take a look at the foundations that are essential to making Zi Mei and your particular attack line-up work, and you look at the symbols of those foundations, you will find that symbol chaining won't be as difficult in this deck in this deck as you might have previously. 2.Zi is fairly 'obvious', imo.

Hope this helps even a little bit. I think starter Zi doesn't get the love she deserves; she's really a fun character to build and run.

Have fun!
