Criminal past

By Ninjazanus, in UFS Rules Q & A

So, even though It's EZPZ to beat down Hilde as hugo, I was wondering if while an attack has negative damage I can lose negative life with Criminal past to gain health and full block.

I dont honestly think it does gain me health, but I'm hopeful.

Gaining life is not losing life.

So an attack w/ negative damage can't be CPed. Now, if it's at 0 damage you could.... half of zero is still zero.

i believe you CAN lose negative vitality but just as taking negative damage, you cannot gain health.

this opens imo and interesting discussion, can you pay the cost?

it says lose X vitality as the cost and you cant lose a negative number so is the cost payed if you lose 0?

you can try to pay the cost but when it looks back does it see that you payed the cost or that you payed 0?

The cast cannot be paid (because you cannot lose negative vitality), so the effect will fizzle. Just like Dhylec and Ibis, etc.

Which really sucks :(

2.13.8 When a player has the option to choose a number for X, X must be a positive number.

While in this instance, X is defined, the player chooses to play the ability, and pay the cost. Since X would be a negative number, they cannot play the ability.

Alternatively/ additionally -

If a player was to "Lose" negative vitality, negative + negative = postive.

If you are gaining vitality, you are not losing X vitality. Therefore you cannot pay the cost, you may not play the ability.
