MC80 Only a Squad Command of 3?

By R22, in Star Wars: Armada

The ISD has a squad rating of 5 and the article notes they carry 4 squads of TIEs, 1 Squint, and 1 Bomber squad or 72 fighters. Wookiepedia lists the same. But MC80s are listed as holding a mixed XYAB-wing force numbering 120. What gives?

Anybody also know what the Wing Commander upgrade might be?

Only Home One carried that many....normal MC80 carried 36-72 depending on the individual ship.

The expansion IS named "Home One", but since Home One is a title i think we can assume the baseline is an MC80.

But all that isn't the real reason ofc. Game balance. Presumably testing felt all those Rebel fighters getting easy activation was very powerful.

Nope! But, wild guess: When you spend a Squadron Command Dial, gain a Squadron Command Token.

Card shown is the "assault" cruiser, not the "command" cruiser.

Also a very good point.

I'm assuming there's going to be the Offensive Refit option that'll allow for the Expanded Hanger? If not, that's just silly. :3

Because...

Its a trap.

I don't think the Squadron Rating represents it's hanger capacity, more like its' comunications capability.

The CR90 has a SR of 1 but I doubt if it could house a squadron of X-Wings.

I've already resigned to accepting that a lot of what is in this game is designed around game balancing reasons and since I've accepted that I enjoy playing it more. I'm treating SW:Armada as a KISS game with a very strong SW flavor.

True... I wouldn't doubt the Command Cruiser has a squadron rating of 4 or even 5.

I agree about the communications.

Wing Commander might increase squadron commands or give squadrons some extra thing.

What I want it to be but know that it probably won't be is a card that gives all squadrons that are within close-medium distance 1 the Rogue keyword until the end of the turn.

The Wing Commander Upgrade is awesome! You exhaust the card in order to give Luke Skywalker a promotion to Colonel. He then has a love affair with Howlrunner and immediately replaces any officer upgrade on one of your chosen Victory class Star Destroyers - because he can. At the beginning of the next turn, you can deploy an Excalibur squadron in your deployment zone and your opponent loses his Luke Skywalker squadron. You can misbehave for the rest of the match and act badly. Your opponent on a turn of his choosing may select anyone named Rachael in the room. If you are unable to have a romantic relationship with that Rachael, your fleet cannot fire any missile weapons for the rest of the game.

Squadron stats are strangely represented considering expanded hangars are what gives you an increased value

on the other hand, imperial starfighters are mostly not known for having hyperspace capabilities (or even life support :P) until we get to EU ships like the Defender, so capital ships are built around being able to ferry plenty of squadrons through space (and to protect against fighter attacks while they mow down capital ships)

Rebel starfighters are far more accommodating with both hyperspace and life support, so they don't need as much hangar space and the rebellion probably puts said space to work by retrofitting more shields and weapons

Idk, that's how the two sides were presented in Empire at War at least (reb fighters just jumped in with the fleet while ties came pouring out of capital ships)

from a balance perspective, I have no idea. 5 Squadron seems absurd with the amount of fodder the empire can fling around the board. I wonder how that'll affect the use of rebel squadrons, but it most likely won't be pretty.
