"It's a Trap!" Ships You Are Tricked By

By PoorEvader2Soon, in X-Wing

I really love the defender. My favorite one is the PS1 because it won me a store championship, well, it was really the phantom...

My favorite "Trap" ship is Vesserey, I have to talk myself out of flying him pretty often. He has been passingly useful for me with engine and outmaneuver. I've also had some hit or miss success with HLC. Never have I had a consistent squad with him, and his points always bite me!

What is your favorite "Trap" ship?

The HWK, scum or rebel, is my "trap" ship. Looks great on paper, then the thing dies to 1/2 rounds of shooting(because green dice are assholes) and 25-30pts goes up in smoke. I still keep trying to make Opportunist Palob work though...

I'd say one the opposite direction - the Aggressor.

No idea why, but seeing that thing across the table from me spooks the hell out of me, and shakes my game up. Can't figure it, as I've never had a problem killing them both, it's just...I dunno. The POSSIBILITIES they bring to the table really set me on edge. Like, someday, I'm going to run into someone born to play them, and get utterly gutted without scratching their paint.

It's amazing how much more survivable the HWK is with Chewy crew btw. I find more often than not I draw a direct hit, so having Chewy discard that is really like 3 extra health, making it more like a 4hull 3 shield ship instead of a 3 hull 1 shield ship. That, or you draw the pesky munitions failure and it becomes useless. Chewy helps with that too!

I've had some on/off success with Jan and Chewy. Enough that I want to explore it further, but I know I really shouldn't.

It's that thought; "you know you shouldn't."

Whatever ship people put Stealth Device on. (Except for Soontir- maybe.)

Anything with a 5 kturn...always catches me off guard.

Moldy crow scum hwks are the anti trap

You don't want to put them down because the ship is garbage, but when you do...it's glorious

Virago is my trap upgrade. Guri doesnt need it and predator xizor, while fun as hell with sensors, gets too expensive for his offense.

My trap ship is anything in a situation where only green dice will save it

The TIE Advanced. Even with the title and the new Systems, I always feel like I'd be better off flying triple Interceptors or anything else.

definitely defenders.

even at 27 points theyre not that scary. =/

Anything with lots of green dice. "We have tons of defense! Really! Don't worry about all those hits/crits that keep getting through..."

The x wing and e wing. Outside of Biggs I can't fly em and I can't win with em. Most of my most horrible dial decisions have manages to be with those two ships.

Myself, I've had great success with Lando. Many times I get a focus+evade result, and it's saved my hide many, many times.

Z-95s in pairs. I don't think I can ever stop putting at least 24 points of the little guys in EVERY list.

I'm trapped...

Anything I am playing. The cooler, trickier, more powerful... the more I will fail to utilize it to its full potential.

... or roll all blanks on my green dice...

... or plow it into the nearest asteroid...

... or the back end of his/her wingman...

An ode to Rexler Brath:

Oh Rexler, your points cost so much and I hate you.

But we fly anyway, oh Rexler.

I spend up your token on shooting, waste your talent away!

Oh Rexler!

Anything on a big base. I always underestimate them. I have a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with all those years I spent playing Sonic games, where bosses were quite typically very large, and you could take them. On one hand it doesn't make me very scared of big things. On the other hand I get too confident in my ability to take them.

Though so far everyone falls for my HWK. :D

Anything with lots of green dice....they always seem to come up blank

I keep trying to make him work with two TIE Bombers each carrying Ion Pulse Missiles and Homing Missiles, the idea being they don't spend their target locks to fire those, leaving the red tokens there for Vessery's ability to kick in. It hasn't worked, but that doesn't stop me from thinking this time it finally will.

Nothing. I know every combination of every ship and upgrade. haha

I think my biggest and worse surprise came from Han playing a 4 player game. The sad part was that it was my teammate flying it... I have never been rammed so much in a game.

The Defender is my trap ship. I absolutely love the ship and the model, and I keep trying to fit it into lists However, it never seems to quite pull its weight. Despite its awesome 3/3/3/3 statline, one bad defensive roll and the ship can go down a lot quicker than you would think. Of course this is true of a lot of ships, but when your ship is a 1/3 of your list, it can be jarring.

Its a hard ship to justify taking.

A-Wings, actually. I love them so much, probably my favorite ship in all of Star Wars. Heck, I fly a Flashfire in SWTOR just because it looks a little like an a-wing. That being said, every time I go to field them its hard to keep myself from loading them up too heavily. Super Tycho (PtL, Daredevil, Experimental Interface, prockets/refit to taste) moves like a bat out of hell and is almost as unpredictable as pre-nerf Echo. With half the attack dice. And less green dice. And only slightly cheaper.

They never work out for me, and I'm an awing short to do the full on 6 proto swarm. Even so I keep trying to make all awing squads work.

Prototype mini-swarms of 3-4 ships. After many many games I've learned that they just don't hit hard enough for their points to actually finish a game in less than 90 minutes, but I love the way they move around on the table, like a pack of predators moving in unison and suddenly breaking up in different directions to trap and confuse their prey.

If it helps, I've found A-wings are wonderful ships when you limit yourself to one per list and don't go too crazy on upgrades :P (I max out at Jakes w/PTL & outmanuever, refit)

the prototype in particular is worth it every time imo over the bandit if you only have room for one of them in your squad

for all A-wings, you'll need to find the guy who one a store championship with an A-wing swarm

Firespray, never won with it, always lose it really fast, can't get good use out of it's dial.
