Accuracy + Evade

By JJs Juggernaut, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

So I was playing a game as the Rebels and my opponent used his two accuracy against my Nebulon-B to keep me from using either of my Brace tokens. I was at medium range and so could use my remaining token (evade) to force a die re-roll. Could I force him to reroll one of accuracy results thus freeing up that defense token?

If seem like the answer would be no, but I'm not sure on this. Any answers are appreciated. Thanks!

I would say to go with the last page of the rules, the Quick Reference. The accuracy results are spent before tokens in step 3 of the Attack Resolution.

Yes I understand he has already spent the accuracy at this point, my question is if forcing a re-roll of his die "undoes" his accuracy effect.

The effect of cancelling your defense tokens has already happened. Re-rolling the dice doesn't change that.

I would say no. Once the token is moved to its exhausted side it can not be readied until the Status Phase. The damage rules are pretty clear that the defense tokens are spent at a particular time, and it appears to me after accuracy whittles the choice of tokens down.

Once the token is moved to its exhausted side ...

Just to clarify - the accuracy results on the dice don't exhaust defense tokens, they just make them unable to be used on this attack.

Rules Reference: Page 2, Attack heading, #3, bullet point 2:

Spend Accuracy Icons : The attacker can spend one or more of its (accuracy) icons to choose the same number of the defender's defense tokens. The chosen tokens cannot be spent during this attack.

Rules Reference: Page7, Modifying Dice heading, bullet point 4:

Spend: When a die or die icon is spent, remove that die from the attack pool

---

When the accuracy die is used, it is not longer in the attack pool. Since it's no longer in the attack pool, it cannot be removed with an Evade Token at Long Range.

Yeah works the same as a crit effect for a card. We've been taking the crit dice and putting it on the upgrade card using it, so we know it's now out of the pool.

Thanks Joshua, that's the definite answer I was looking for!

InterceptorMad, just curious what you mean with the crit. I assume you mean after the defender uses defense tokens, since you can't use crit effects until then right? Or have I been playing that wrong too? Would make Ion upgrade much better if you could use it before then can use tokens.

If you are speaking about "crit effects" from cards, then you are playing it wrong.

The die is not spent to resolve Crit effects (no matter if standard or other).

Also Crit effects are not declared or resolved until after the step where you spend defense token to modify the attack pool.

Check back to the attack procedure in the reference rules for the specific order that these happen in.

Seems like InterceptorMad is just talking about his own "bookkeeping" during gameplay. But Chrisdk makes a good point.

Yeah it was for bookkeeping as I did not know the rule that joshuahysong posted before this thread.

But in case of the 'die/die icons are used, remove that die from the attack pool', would that not then remove the die with the crit icon on it if you used it for a card abilty? Granted, it's after anything else can affect the pool, so probably doesn't matter.

Is it still counted as a damage if you use it for say, Overload Pulse?

Yes it still counts as a damage. It just allows you to activate one crit ability like on overload pulse, Dondonnas pride, or the standard one.

Yes, it still causes 1 damage in addition to allowing a crit effect to be resolved. The Crit Icon is not actually used or spent.

It is merely the cause for being allowed to resolve a crit effect if there is at least one of them present in the pool after modifications.

RRG, p8. "Critical Effects":

"The attacker does not spend a die icon to resolve a critical effect unless the effect says otherwise."

Ah awesome, cheers guys. As hardcore into x-wing as I am, still finding my feet with Armada. But then most of us are.
