Wave 2 Article is up! Here they come!

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada

I only made it through about half of the posts so if I am repeating someone, apologies, but firstly, I doubt ackbar's ability effects all rebel ships,

second, the home one with ackbar and all those red dice circling the board at range 3 and hammering everything should be awesome.

Look at all the other commanders. Are any of them "the ship I'm on only?"

Yeah they are currently all affecting multiple ships for less points than Ackbar will be. They may limit him to a range (like within medium range) but I think he'll affect anything around him.

Maybe they'll really give us the Ackbar slash, limiting it to ships that are directly in line with him? ;)

I thnk the best thing would be for Ackbar to work similar to Motti.

Large Ships : 2 red dice to their broadsides

Medium Ships : 1 red dice

Small Ships: 0

So you can't spam Corvettes with RRRU broadsides (Or RRRRU with Enhanced Armament) everywhere.

So, looking at the MC80 image there, I see there's no Liberty title. I think all of us hopeful for a separate Liberty-variant release may well be in luck. Let the winged Mon Cal ships commence!

And while I was expecting Thrawn in the ISD, I do think Vader is a better fit. The iconic Star Wars villain as an upgrade on the iconic Star Wars capital ship. It's possibe they're saving Thrawn for a future wave, perhaps with a Dreadnought for thematic reasons. Or perhaps they've thrown a curveball and put him in with the Raider. Let the master strategist play with the Empire's newest toys.

Side-note about the Raider and the MC30 in this; wasn't that impressed when I saw the initial images of them from GAMA (Raider I think might've been overshadowed by the X-Wing model of it), but looking at them in better conditions, they're gorgeous.

Hmm... so, Ackbar's Balloons will be the MC80, a couple of Assault Frigates, and maybe as many of those MC30s as I can jam into a list.

Probably take up a single-line formation on my deployment zone and gradually turn in while aiming the broadsides outward at the enemy while heading for the objective. Putting gunnery teams on those Ackbar cruisers lets them fire their advantaged dice out the sides at two different targets.

Maybe take CR-90s for flankers, drop them first, and then deploy the gun-line in response to however the enemy is setting up.

Thrawn always seemed unlikely to me, not impossible, but unlikely this early on. Maybe if we get the Immobiliser since he used them so often. Plus they had to have Vader as the commander, he was the CO of Death Squadron, the single largest concentration of warships since KoTOR, which included ALL of the Title cards we've seen for the ISD, plus this way we can now recreate the opening of Star Wars :)

Its not an exact science but FFG does like hinting at future waves in its card art. There are numerous examples in X-wing.

There is definitely a Liberty class under that B-wing.

only problem with predictions from art is that FFG uses the same assets across their games

for example "B-wing Squadron" has the exact same art as X-wing's "Ibtisam" only rotated

lore fans will know if the two ships are differentiated enough to merit including alongside the other mon cal ship. If it is, it was in the movie so it's definitely going to end up in the game at some point

WInged Moncal will probably have bigger front arc and more frontal dice becosue it can fire wing mounted batteries forward easily.

So excited, ehrmegerd. I tend to prefer smaller sized ships, but two more small bases means I'm not left out in the cold on this one.

Blimey, I'm out of it for a day and this happens. Awesome, just awesome, I can't wait to get my grubby little mitts on an MC80 and saying "It's a trap" way too often ;)

Was hoping the frigate would be a medium base though (I wasn't familiar with this ship until the recent spoilers) as it would be nice for the rebels to have one that isn't the ugly AFII. I like the look of the MC30 but it can easily get destroyed before it gets into range so not sure how useful it will be. That said, it is pictured with FOUR defense tokens and it has 3 shields on most facings - that's very good for a small ship.

Easely?!

They didn't give her tons of shields, TWO redirects AND TWO evades for no reason.

Imho destroying the ship early is almost impossible, especially when playing against Mon Mothma.

Yeah, but we don't know if it uses all of those at once though. The Scout version could get two Evade tokens and a Redirect and the Torpedo version could get the reverse.

With a swarm of bombers and a couple of lucky shots from a bigger ship, the frigate might not even get to fire. However, I do see your point, I just think it will be harder to use efficiently. It will have to be flown carefully, and will need support from things like Mon Mothma or Electronic Countermeasures (if it can even have defensive upgrades). Another possibility is Engine Techs to get it in there nice and fast.

Hmm, good point. That area of the ship card is covered so we can't see. The sneaky devils!

It looks like we have the first of many tweaks to the cards already: the Squadron rating of the ISD has been reduced from 5 to 4 in the picture. That is probably reasonable, but I liked the idea of flinging a half-dozen Squadrons in at once to trash 2 or 3 X-Wings by surprise.

You will still be able to control 6 squadrons at once: 4 from Squadron rating, 1 from Expanded Hangars, and 1 from command token.

innate Squadron 5 was a bit silly, I'm glad they brought it down a bit.

You make it too much higher than the Victory and there won't be much point to bringing them unless the ISD is prohibitively more expensive. You'll get more total squadrons moved with Victories, but the ability to move a bunch simultaneously before the opponent can react (rather than splitting activations between two capital ships) is a potentially huge advantage, especially with the incredibly cheap title that makes the command stack far less prohibitive to work with.

At only 1 squadron more than the Victory, though, it's not as overwhelming a difference

I swear the spoiled MC80 Assault cruiser card went from 1 black and 1 blue anti-squad die, to two blue.

ok finaly identified the ship shaped like a C it's Dengar's ship Punisher one still no idea what the new rebel ship is... ok looks like it;s a Scurrg H-6 Bomber

It's the Scurrg H-6 Havok

so I wonder if those three ships will be the next X-Wing wave
