tantive and raider dimensions for storage

By Blail Blerg, in X-Wing

Hi all,

Does anyone know how big these objects are?

Also, what has worked for you to store these? I've heard this works:

This is what I planned to use for the Tantive but it wouldn't fit BOTH the Raider and Tantive. I'm currently using it for my large ships which it is great for but I was hoping for one box for all my EPIC stuff.

I've been looking for the same info but I don't think it's been released yet.

If this pic is anything to go by it's roughly the same size - perhaps slightly longer and wider at its widest point, but not quite as high.

I have this exact case and can confirm that it comfortably holds two Corvettes. There's enough room that it would be no trick to make a custom foam insert for them, though that's not the route I took. I'm certain the same would hold true with the Raider.

It would be great if FFG would release the dimensions for upcoming releases when announced.

It would be nice to allow us time to prepare storage solutions for our upcoming prettys.

At the very least they could release the dimensions to companys like Battlefoam, Lasertouch and K&R

Future proofing is always a good plan

yup sigh.

so the deep yellow stanley doesnt fit a raider?

Why would't it fit both? Could you post a pic?

I used a fancy shoe box that has a fold over flap and bought 1" thick foam pads meant for chairs from Walmart. I'll find some pics but it was super easy to cut foam layers to fill the box and start from the bottom cutting the outlines of my corvette and transport. An hour later I had both of my huge ships safely secured with room left over for their templates, damage decks, and tokens.

To be honest the easiest storage method would be a paper box if your office orders paper by the ream. We go through tons of paper so I've got several paper boxes to store miniatures that were headed to the recycle bin. I could layer a paper box with foam pads and fit all of my Xwing stuff and any future things in on box.

yup sigh.

so the deep yellow stanley doesnt fit a raider?

I got hold of a couple of these Stanley boxes (£13.50 for the pair) and I'm planning to use the second to store my Epic ships once the Raider arrives.

The Tantive and Transport fit easily with enough space left over to fit 2 more Tantives and maybe even another Transport - so unless the Raider is significantly longer and / or taller than the Corvette, I'm confident it will fit.

I did have to use a Dremmel to cut out the central compartments though

Why can't I be smart and economical like you.

Hmm I'm not handy with tools so not sure what a dremmel even is. I'd rather not have to cut out any plastic

It might if you had your own 'casing'. The plastic casing (it comes with) of the Tantive by itself though takes up over 50% of the inside. I figure the Raider will be 'fatter' then the Tantive meaning if you had your own casing it may not fit or would come close. Once I have a Raider in hand I could have a better idea but here is a picture of a guy who has his Tantive and Transport. You'd definitely lose the ability to put your transport in here. But maybe I just have a box for each EPIC team and hope the Imps get another ship that would fit with the Raider.

A Dremel is a rotary hand tool with a billion attachments available. Cutting wheels, sanding disks, drill bits, you name it.

I own close to this exact Stanley case, which stores my CR90 and Transport very well. I'm protecting them (although it's not an absolute necessity because that case will always be placed horizontally and transported without rotations) with cut out plastic blisters they came in,

I plan to simply attempt to store all 3 huge ships when the Raider comes, perhaps by cutting the blisters even more agressively. I might build 3 individual foamcore boxes for actual transport of these huge ships as well, with enough space for all the tokens and templates.

I think I'll wait for the Raider to come out and then find a good box or shoe box to hold both. I've got some foam that I've been saving for something like this. If I can find a way, I have a spare laptop bag shoulder strap that I want to attach to it, as well.

Some Warhammer players use gun cases for transporting miniatures because they're far cheaper than GW's boxes, you can use foam layers the same way I do with a shoe box. The only trick with that (which I learned from a cop) is to be careful storing that in your car because gun cases are excellent targets for breakins. The funny mental picture, though, is some thug trying to steal a gun and finding a bunch of plastic toys.

Got this aluminum case at Canadian Tire for $20 on sale. I'm banking on it the raider to be about as long as the Tantive IV. But there should be room.

You know, you guys could just keep those plastic vacuum formed holders the ships come in and then just put those into a box. All 14 of my Z-95's and all 4 of my X-Wings have their cannon antennae intact. Foam is a bad idea for delicate parts like those. Those solar panels on the Raider seem fragile, might want to keep it in its original packaging.

ugh yeah. doesn;t look like the raider fits in the yellow stanleys....

along with a tantive nd a transport.
