VaderPhan

By Lendosan, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Just played a game where the Phantom just couldn't be kept in line of sight to be shot. However I only had one, thing is, with two, I could seriously upset someone by popping into and out of cloak. Thoughts on the below list please:

Darth Vader [squad Leader] (31)

“Whisper” [Recon Specialist] (35)

“Echo” [Recon Specialist] (33)

I would run Veteran Instincts on both Phantoms long before the recon specialists to give the Phantoms first attack. When I use Phantoms, i also tend to use Advanced Cloaking Device so that they get first attack and then immediately stealth again to gain the additional dodge dice.

Four focus not enough to survive? Advanced Cloak is a point sink imo, it is handy. May have to give it a try.

Yeah, take both of the recon specialist's off and you just have two phantoms with Vader. Only one can afford the Advan.Cloak. Hmmm.

maybe modify the build to only have 1 phantom and Vader with maybe an interceptor or somethin that Vader can fly in formation with to take advantage of Vaders Squad Leader ability.

This alternative gives both Phantoms Advan.Cloaks, means that Echo has Ini.8 (So Whis = 7, Echo = 8 & Vader = 9). Pretty quick, Vader being able to Evade and Focus, no dishing out of tokens though...

I see what you were trying to do, but Phantoms that arent in stealth only have 2 dodge dice. With the builds ive been practicing against for an upcoming tourney, 2 dodge die isnt enough for something that only has 2 shields and 2 hull.

I might not be right, but the way I see it, Phantoms are meant to be flown with high pilot skill so they can move last and attack first then go back into stealth (with advanced cloaking device)

Now, if you are going to try and fly them with default pilot skill, I suggest Stygium Particle Accelerator. It lets you get a free dodge token every time you cloak or decloak. Plus, it only costs 2 compared to the advanced cloaking devices 4.

Advanced cloak you want to recloak asap.

Get that bonus defense dice.

Which is why veteran instincts pairs up with advanced cloak so well.

Recon specialist in this case isnt a bad option

Especially on echo

Whisper with advanced cloak and no veteran instincts is kind of a waste.

Again lots of other ships, Luke, howlrunner, Han, etc etc will get to shoot at a two evade whisper. If they manage to get her in arc

If you don't want to run Veteran instincts on them with advanced cloak then maybe run the generics

Stygium Particle Accelerator and recon specialist pairs well together

Edit

A little tip using generics

Run them with something more threatening on the board

For example I ran a shadow, with echo and a doom shuttle.

Made it very tough for my opponent to decide which ship to try kill first.

Another idea would be a Sigma with Sontir Fel.

If your opponent chases Sigma keep him cloaked and don't engage

He's doing his part by keeping whatever away from your important ships such as fel, and when opportunity arrives and you have a good chance to strike, decloak and get a shot in, next round recloak and get out of harms way if needed
