So let's start a new argument, haha! The fighter packs will have 2 of each type of 4 fighters. This means we'll have to be buying multiples of each to be able to field waves of anything outside TIEs and X-Wings. Does this seem worth it? Gravitating towards the Empire, I'm looking forward to flying a lot of TIE Interceptors, more than TIE Fighters even, but Bombers and Advances? I don't think I need that many, and the core actually comes with enough Fighters that I don't need any more, but I'm getting more anyhow. And what to do with all the extra pilot cards, since there's only ever 2 needed? Are we all okay with this or would have been packs of each type of fighter been better so we could pick and choose?
Fighter Packs
I think 2 of each will easily be worth it. 4 Squadrons of each fighter should be enough for most purposes, unless you really want to go for an all-in skew list.
I think i would have preferred them to be sold "per fighter type", but i can live with this.

Don't you dare give them that idea. They are already getting enough of my money. I don't need the drain exaggerated.
Haha, I will be buying 3 of each pack definately. Probably more as time goes on because fighters are badass and i love to paint them.
Id also like to go all in for interceptors.
Just like X-Wing, you'll probably be good with two of everything; but if you want to BUILD ALL THE LISTS don't be surprised that you have to pay all the money too...
For the rebels, I really don't think you'll see very many people using more than 2 of anything other than X-Wings at the competitive level until some newer cards come out to make the B-Wing much more mobile.
Imps may see a few more people running ~4 TIE Bombers, maybe TIE Interceptors, but the TIE/ln does its job pretty well, and, as a fighter screen, you're gonna get more bang for your buck with the TIE/ln anyway.
I'm really interested to see what squads shake out in the major tourneys.
I wish they had included a couple more Xs and TIEs in the packs, but I bought 2 of each and that should suffice for a while. At $14 each, they're just pricey boosters. It shouldn't be too hard to get more over time.

They do. Imps get two each of TIE Fighter, TIE Advanced, TIE Interceptor, and TIE Bomber. Rebels get two each of A-Wing, B-Wing, X-Wing, and Y-Wing.

Sorry, I meant more than the two in the pack. Four would have been nice.
Also, remember you cannot spend more than 1/3 of your lists points on fighters anyway. I've found when list building that once I've bought 2/3/4 capitals and upgraded them (and not even that much) that I only have the points for about 6 squadrons (including a few named ones)
So unless you go all-out on one type, you won't really need more than 2/3 of each type.
I plan on have at least a few friendly games where we throw out that 1/3rd fighter rule. The Rebels were notoriously fighter heavy after all.
Odds are FFG will release an Imperial Aces and Rebel Aces eventually to introduce more unique squadrons.

Well, that is pretty much Wave 2. The Villainy booster are all squadron type units. But will probably cost more points. I will hazard that the Falcon will be like 30-35 points
Edited by wjgoAre there stats anywhere for the fighters?
I just wish they had went for a rare pack - Advanced, Phantom, maybe 4 TIE's (adding them to rare pack as you get some in the core set) and a not so rare pack of Defender, Interceptor, bomber x4. That way I could grab multiples of the latter.
I also wish they had put rebel/imperial fighters into wave 2 rather than that mixed box of scum etc.
Jimmy Method :-

Is this the game where FFG have to think about separate card packs for fighters and maybe ship names. In the core and wave 1 you get 3 TIE/X wing cards and 2 for each of the others. Not much variety. I can't see myself buying more fighter packs just to get the cards, that's presupposing FFG produced another box with TIE's in, for example, with differing pilots.
Same goes for named ship cards depending on how many are in the wave 1 victory.

Nothing hard core, because we know a card in the core set has changed from the preview.

It seems most people want a balance of fighters and bombers. It would be very special for someone to need more than two boosters of one faction. 2 boosters gets you 80 points of TIEs or 78 points of X-Wings. A forth booster pack maxes you out on those squadrons in a 300 point game. I am sure a player could suffer adding Howlrunner and and upgrading Darth Vader's TIE/Adv (I might be off a point) or for the Rebel player to upgrade 2 X-Wings to Luke and Wedge.
About the day before the fighter packs are delivered, I am sure there will be posts for trades. If someone really does need 5 booster packs to spam Y-Wings, just trade - I am sure some Imp player would like some more models for their hangars. I would like to try the idea of 10 Y-Wings, but I won't buy 5 booster packs. So I will be trading to get them.
I do see how an Imperial player gets the short stick of the deal if they don't want TIEs but rather TIE/Ints and TIE/Advs. The Core packs come with 4 stands of the multi-role X-Wing. So far though, TIE's do very well against X-Wings, so their inclusion in the Core of 6 stands is still a potent force.

Out of curiosity, once they come out I'll be interested to hear how it goes when people inevitably try a game where the Rebels just have fighters with an objective/house rule that makes it plausible.
IMHO One Rebel fighter expansion pack + 4 X-wings from the Core Set are sufficient to form a POWERFUL starfighter wing. Maybe, just maybe I would buy a second one later to form 4x A-wing + 4x B-wing attack wing for 300 pts games.
Imperials however need more expansion packs to form sufficient TIE swarms (not a problem if one has two core sets), threatening bomber or interceptor force. TIE advanced are the least sexy starfighters for me but for the rest I would buy at least two expansion packs.
I have an idea for Imperial starfighter wing for 400 pts games: 12 TIE interceptors. Of course I'm not gonna buy 6 packs to get the models, I would proxy them.
Sounds like great trade opertunities to me
As an imp player I think they did ok with it, I really am more about the huge ships anyways, but I wont be running more than four bombers or adv anyways, the only thing I would even consider wanting more of is the interceptor, but even then running 3 and soontir is already about 50 points, howlrunner (a must for tie int) is another 16. I think they did just right, i may at some point go out on ebay and pick up some individual int. but yeah seems solid, boba might be fun to add to the fleet too

Don't you badmouth my baby!

It's okay baby, I'll make the bad man go away.
I'm getting a rebel pack asap. Need me some... everything in that pack. I love all the rebels ships. Granted if I was going to make a super competative list I would be more discriminating.
I'll be buying 2 Packs, then trying to find someone to trade 2 of the Advances for 2 Interceptors.
Buying 4 of each...
I am that guy lol
