TIE Fighter and TIE Advanced canon/EU markings?

By Klutz, in X-Wing

My Airen Cracken Z-95 went so well, that I'm now looking into adding some details to a TIE Fighter and a TIE Advanced.

I'd like to add something similar to the blood stripes on the 181st Imperial TIE Interceptor from the aces pack, so that if I run Howlrunner or Darth Vader with some generics, you can tell who's who.

Are there any existing EU or canon squad markings that were used on TIE Fighters or TIE Advanceds?

TIEs can have Imperial Shevron thingies on 'em... the red hex shape and some wording like the Rodent Re-paints done a thousand years ago when this forum was so young and innocent and happy.

Yeah, I've seen that before!

I can't find any reference to it on Wookiepedia or anything?

There is no reference... lol. Just make 'em look good buddie, and have fun.

I have tried looking around but had minimal luck.

Most is so small (like what Joe linked above) its hardly worth bothering.

Invent your own squadron's or borrow from history for inspiration.

I want to do 8-balls on the wings (or on the hull of the TIE advanced) for Black 8 squadron, but I tried free handing them and failed, so I'll use decals.

Would like to see that when you're done, sounds interesting.

I have done my own decals for some of these and have enjoyed the experience.. would love to follow your exerience with this new element.

I found this image, it might be useful for this thread:

Thats Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin Solo's modified TIE Advanced x1s during the Battle of Dubrillion.

And doing more research I found out the ship is called the Calrissian Runner

That seven with the double hashes (the illegal mod symbol) is Aurebesh for "credits" so why's that on there?

Why not?

The Solos be straight up pimpin' yo.

Do we know if they are painted this way to be undercover? That might be why they have the symbol on them.

I think the Calrissian Runner is a racing ship. Think Formula One cars (NASCAR if you're Stateside!)... Advertising and/or personal markings.

Or could it simply be that the reason it has the symbol for credit on them is because it's the Calrissian Runner, perhaps named after Lando Calrissian, who was a gambler, liked his money, and a friend of Han?

Love that paint job nonetheless, even if you exclude the wing graffiti. The flower-blossom/sun-burst look on the cockpit is fabulous.

The Solos borrowed the TIEs from Lando during the Battle of Dubrillion ;) Prior he used them as racing ships.

Other than the 181st blood stripes and the pentagon markings, Imperial fighters don't really have any other markings. Lore wise it went against the whole doctrine that the Empire followed. Supposely it was rare for a pilot to fly the same ship, kills weren't always recorded for the pilot but for the TIE. With kill marks around the inner ring of the cockpit hatch. Once a ship got a certain amount of kills they would cut the cockpit ring off and weld it to the wall of the hanger or something like that. Some pilots were superstitious and wouldn't fly TIE's unless they had a certain amount of kills even.

If you go by the old TIE Fighter, X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter and X-Wing Alliance games, there were flight group markings for TIE's on the solar panels. Those could be used for markings on TIEs.
