Flying Prince Xizor and a Z-swarm?

By heychadwick, in X-Wing

Hi All,

I've been teaching new players to get into the game and running Trench Run scenarios the past few weeks. I've not had a chance to practice with the list I've been itching to play much. I think I've gotten 2 games in with this list?

Prince Xizor and Friends (more like victims, but hey)

Prince Xizor w/ Autothrusters, Predator, title, and Adv Sensors

Torkhil Mux w/ Ion Turret

3 x Banana Pirates

I think I might replace Adv Sensors w/ FCS as I think I need to do more damage. Also, both games I played I don't think I needed Adv Sensors once. Besides a few tweaks like this, I'm less interested in how to change the build and more interested in how to fly it.

So, how have people had success in flying this list? How do you do the approach? Just fly at them? My first game I did this against a list with several BTL Y-wings and it got ugly. Some bad dice and I was blasted to pieces quickly. So, does anyone have other advice for the approach? Or just roll better? :)

What about other ships? Interceptors? Firesprays? Super Dash? What great information have other people learned while flying a similar list? Good success stories? I want to get a bit caught up with how to fly it since I haven't gotten games in.

4x Banana pirate+Feedback array

Xizor+title+Predator+Adv. Sensors+autothrusters+hot shot

99 points of fun!

Try to joust them and if you keep predator then I'd either stick with adv sensors or sensor jammer. If you swap predator for something else then fcs will be good.

I've had lots of fun with sensors, but I also found that Starvipers need it much less than I originally thought. I've already got Guri running without it, and I think Xizor's going to follow suit

Xizor

*Predator

*Thrusters

[36]

5 ring-ring-ring-ring-ring...BANANA PIRATES (two feedback arrays)

with sensors, you can get 4 blacksun pirates with 4 feedback arrays

FCS is absolutely redundant with predator. You'll only use it if you want to run a PS 9 Xizor

I ran this a few weekends ago at a tournament:

"Xizor and the Wacky Y-wing"

  • Black Sun Soldier - Cluster Missiles, Munitions Failsafe
  • Black Sun Soldier - Cluster Missiles, Munitions Failsafe
  • Prince Xizor - Veteran Instincts, Virago, Autothrusters, Fire-Control System
  • Hired Gun - Autoblaster Turret, Unhinged Astromech, BTL-A4 Y-Wing, Engine Upgrade

And I must say it's really effective, especially against large bases.. This list utterly annihilated a double YT-2400 list (Sorry Guitarquero ;) ). Every list I faced that day, all I had to do was joust, then get aggressive with Xizor and the Wacky Y-wing. A fairly simple list to play, actually.

We have a guy here in the KC Metro Area, Brandon, who won the Store Championship in Bellevue, NE (Didn't go - don't know the store name) with the following list:

Prince Xizor - PTL, Title, Autothrusters, FCS, Intertial Dampners

Binayre Pirate x5

Ive run xizor with at, as, pred, title. The Challenge is to find his escort. My two favorites are 5 pirates og 4 pirates with hotshot. I tried two warthogs and couldnt Make it work. Have Anybody tried 4 pirates with hotshots? Is it worth it to let go of the last pirate to get 4 hotshots? Cant decide. Both lists have performed Well for me.

No one rates Torkhil? I figured his ability would help against the elites. Or is everyone just thinking "swarm means swarm"? I figure he adds some more to deal with anti-swarms.

So....everyone just recommend jousting with the enemy? How would a swarm (without HWK) deal with arc dodgers of Phantoms and Autoceptors?

torkhil's sweet, but he's a HWK and therefore one of the worst things you could possibly pass Xizor's damage too

not to mention that the amount of impact he'll have with just an ICT is questionable at best.

he was a great part of a Guri w/3 pirates list I've run, but I don't think he's a good fit for xizor

If you keep a Z-95 near Xizor, you don't have to pass the damage to the HWK.

You don't think that Torkhil with an ICT and the ability to bump someone down to 0 is worth it? I would think that any arc dodger that gets close can be bumped to 0 and then Ionized. Might not work for autoceptors, but maybe after Xizor shoots at the target and strips Focus?

If it works with Guri, how does it not work with Xizor? If I just pass the damage to someone else, then it should be fine, right?

Also, do people feel it's better to go with FCS and Vet In?

that's a big if with Zs. They're not traditionally the most durable ships around

neither is Torkhil, for that matter. HWKs are lumbering X-wings defensively speaking and will go down just as hard (well, more easily because they're even less maneuverable).

Moldy helps a lot by ensuring defensive focus despite how easily blocked HWKs are, or by giving multiple focus to modify against multiple attacks. Palob further helps himself by gimping enemies, and Torkhil helps himself by being able to heavily damage or outright destroy an enemy before they strike him (which is much more easily accomplished with the blaster, for obvious reasons)

It's not that hard to keep one of 3 Z-95's around Xizor...at least not starting off. Once ships start going kabloowey, well....

I'm personally not a big fan of torkhil because higher ps ships can still arc dodge you. To get the most out of Xizor you have be flying in formation which means it's harder to spread out your arcs. If I was using autoceptors or bigships I'd stay at range 3 and boost out of as many arcs as i could and chip away at the z's.

Copying the list a few posts up I've flown.

Xizor, fcs, VI, autothrusters, inertial dampeners and title

4 ps 1 z's

1 ps 2 scyk

100 points.

I swapped in the scyk as I only have 2 most wanted. I found that in most straight up engagements people ignore Xizor for the chaff, as they see him as a harder target. The Scyk has surprised me with its abilities, and I've only lost Xizor once (vs a 5 Binayre pilot feed back swarm with Torkil). While not played vs competitive lists I feel its quite capable.

I'm yet to use Torkil but he is nice when he works. Helped stop Xizor from shooting, but I managed to take out Torkil in 2 turns even with a stack of focus tokens.

I'd like to give Predator and adv sensors a try, or even VI and adv sensors, as I do like being at PS9. Inertial Dampeners is a no brainer to me on most ships that can take it. It's very powerful.

Time to update Enter Sandman. I know I keep saying that... but I mean it this tim.

I am waiting to see how testing goes. I might have to give Xizor VI if everyone is running PS 9 ships. If that's the case, then it's VI and FCS. I hate to just jump into that PS war again, though.

Umm....what? Is that a list? If so, what is it?

Stay out of the PS war with Xizor. His PS 7 is enough. Give him Predator! Use his dial to out-fly opponents and force them to go where you want them to be. A swarm of blockers and a beefed up Xizor is a scary thing.

That's my plan, but I need to get games in.

As you know (see my recent Battle Report for those of you who do not), I flew a similar list against a semi-fat Han and a semi-super Dash. I think the strategy for the approach varies depending on the enemy ships, but my general strategy was to close to range one and block as many of my opponents maneuvers as possible with the Headhunters while maintaining firing arcs for concentrated fire. Since my Zs had Hot Shot Blasters it was a little easier for me to maintain arcs than it will be for you, but you should still be able to still clog up the space ways with the three Zs. I expect Torkil will end up being a primary target. The question is, can you make use of him before he goes down?

I got a game in last night and I have to say that I really enjoyed Tarkhil Mux in the game. The Ion Turret was helpful, but also knocking someone down to PS0. It allowed the Z-95's to fire first and cause damage.

I should also state that I really liked Adv. Sensors, as well. There were several times that I was able to get my action and then bump (on purpose) to get the shot in. This was especially true against a Leebo HLC with Outrider. I was able to get into the donut hole and still had my ability to fire. There were other times when I was able to boost to get around other ships and asteroids before I moved. Knowing I could do it was very helpful. Also, I was able to maneuver so that I could get behind asteroids and not get shot at.

There were a couple of times that I was able to Focus or TL before my S-loop. Overall, I like Adv Sensors so far. I haven't gone against a high PS list, though.
