Revealed ringbearers

By McRae, in War of the Ring

If the ringbearers get revealed by a hunt, can the Shadow player attack them? What exactly can a shadow player do to a revealed fellowship?

Hehe, that was the one point my friend didn't like in our first game.

"What, I can't attack them directly?"

Anyways, a revealed fellowship is a requirement for several of the SP event cards (mainly causing corruption and what not). Being revealed also costs the FP 1 character die to hide again (or any 1 die if Strider is guide). You can move Nazgul and units on that space to get rerolls, but that's about it. Don't have the expansion, so can't comment on the variant Witch-King, but I think he needs a revealed fellowship or something.

The fellowship cannot be attacked directly by a shadow army, even if sharing the space with a Free People army.

This also appies to seperated companions, but only when they're alone (not accompanied by a Free People army).

Relevant quotes from the rules:

"An Army is allowed to attack an enemy Army during the Action Resolution step by using an Army or a Character die result (while the attacking Army contains a Leader or Character), or sometimes by playing an Event Card." (page 13). For the definition of an army, look at:

"All friendly Army units inside a single Region form an Army." (page 11). This means that only the red and blue units count as armies and can be attacked.

However: "All defending units, including Leaders and Characters, are always considered to be part of the battle." (page 13 again).

This means that Nazgul, FP Leaders, Companions and Minions are drawn into the battle when attacked. This of course can only happen if they're sharing a zone with a friendly (to them) army unit, as per the rule above.

There are shadow character cards that do mean and nasty things to revealed fellowships. Also, being revealed costs the free peoples an action die, which is more costly than that sounds.
