Idea/Suggestion: CAG Title Card?

By Professor Phobos, in Battlestar Galactica

The Political and Military Leaders both get a title card- so what about the Pilots?

I figure the highest ranking Pilot could be identified as the CAG and get some kind of special power. The CAG was a title of some significance in the show and it changed hands a lot more often than the Presidency or the Admiralty did.

Hm, I'm not sure I'm up for the idea.. Too many Titles in a game. Especialy in a 3-player game. Hmmm. But I'm looking forward to hear the ideas.. :-)

CAG

Action: Activate one Viper.

This works well for both rule and thematic reasons. The President gets a location which effectively doubles the effectiveness of her title, and so reverse engineering it seems like a half-powered version of Command is a nice little bonus. The CAG can also command Vipers even when Brigged, which works well compared against scenes from the second season of the show. An XO'd CAG can be an effective leader on Galactica or off.

Another handy way to balance my suggested CAG ability would be to add the text

"Admiral's Action: The Admiral may assign the CAG title to any player who is not the Admiral."

The title of CAG seems to be moved around on the show according to the Admiral's whim, so why not reflect that in the rules? It's also a good way to keep a Cylon CAG from destroying the fleet too easily.

It sound like a fun enough mod, but I can see why they wouldn't want to add this to the core game. It adds a decent amount of complexity for no great benefit. I mean, the CAG benefits obviously, but the play experience doesn't, not by much. For folks who have played a long time it can be an interesting addition.

Plus, President and Admiral are the two big positions in the fleet. CAG is just one military position amongst many.

I love the idea of a CAG card and I love the idea that the Admiral could move it to another person with a pilot token as an action. I'm not sure if making it activating 1 viper is worth it though. Why wouldn't you just discard a card to move to Galactica and then activate 2 vipers?

Anyone have any other ideas for a CAG ability? I'm trying to think of something more useful, but not broken.

Maybe that only the CAG can move unmanned Vipers...? Other players can still activate the appropriate locations, but the CAG gets to decide where the Vipers move.

Since some of the new skills and cards are used in the movement phase instead of the action maybe it could be activate a viper instead of moving, then you still have an action left to do whatever (including activate command for a total of three activations a turn).

The alternative, which I had considered, was

"The CAG may treat any location as if it were Command."
