Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game
. Ancient, nameless horrors dwell in the darkness, writhing in the night sky, under the earth, and in our very dreams. Madness and terror abound in the weird world of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu Mythos. If you dare to risk your sanity, we have an event for you – regardless of your level of experience! Keep reading for detailed descriptions of all of the official FFG events.
Call of Cthulhu World Championship 2009
The main event, Friday, August 14th at 11:00 AM , where the greatest players of Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game will gather to determine who is the ultimate champion! ( Registration begins at 10:00 AM, please report to the TO early if you are planning on participating in this tournament, as any player not registered once the tournament has begun will not be able to compete in the event. )
Call of Cthulhu LCG World Championship 2009 Deckbuilding rules: Your deck must contain at least fifty cards, not including Domain cards or Story cards. No more than three copies of any card, by title, can be included in your deck. You must use the Story deck from the Call of Cthulhu Core Set. Only cards from these sets will be allowed: Call of Cthulhu Core Set , Mountains of Madness Asylum Pack , Ancient Horrors Asylum Pack , and any Asylum Pack from the Summons of the Deep expansion .
The tournament will be played over a number of rounds of Swiss pairing (number of rounds depends on attendance) and will cut to a single elimination top 4 finals.
The winner of the Call of Cthulhu LCG World Championship will receive a custom trophy and will be invited to design a card for an upcoming Call of Cthulhu LCG set. The last champion card published was Descendent of Eibon by 2007 World Champion Jim Black, featured in the The Thing from the Shore Asylum Pack . Yours could be the next Champion card so start practicing and get ready for a titanic battle at Gen Con 2009!
Call of Cthulhu Core Set Showdown
On Friday, August 14th at 1:00PM , we will be running the Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set Showdown . ( Registration begins at 12:00 noon, please report to the TO early if you are planning on participating in this tournament, as any player not registered once the tournament has begun will not be able to compete in the event. ) This is a special tournament intended for new players. If you've just gotten your Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set , and have read the rules or watched our instructional video , then you are ready to participate in this event. This is a great way to learn more about the game.
To play in the Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set Showdown , just bring a ticket to the event (or a generic ticket) along with your Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game Core Set ( which you can purchase from the Fantasy Flight Games Booth (#811) ), to FFG HQ in the Card Game Hall ( Hall F ) and you will be entered in the tournament. You can also bring your friends and split the decks from one Core Set amongst yourselves. FFG staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions and prizes will be awarded to the top placers.
The tournament will be paired randomly in the first round and from there proceed through double elimination until we have a winner.
Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set Showdown Deckbuilding Rules: Only cards from one copy of the Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set are allowed. Your deck must be a minimum of 50 cards, not including Domain cards or Story cards, and must consist of at least two factions - such as Miskatonic and Agency, Cthulhu and Hastur, etc. - plus neutral cards.
Call of Cthulhu Gen Con League
Would you like to meet other Call of Cthulhu LCG players to play games with over the weekend but not ready to commit to the larger tournaments? Then look no further than the Call of Cthulhu LCG Gen Con League , starting at Noon on Thursday, August 13th at FFG HQ in the Card Game Hall ( Hall F ).
The way the Call of Cthulhu LCG League works is simple:
Show up at FFG HQ with a ticket for the event, or a generic ticket, and you will receive a ribbon that you can attach to your Gen Con badge, plus ten exclusive league tokens. Over the course of the Gen Con weekend - Thursday, August 13th to Sunday, August 16th - find anyone wearing a league ribbon and challenge them to a friendly match. ( Be polite! Don't challenge anyone while they're eating or participating in another game, for example. ) If you win the match, you can take a league token from the other player. You may not challenge the same player twice in a row - try to play everyone in the league if you can!
You may do this as many times as you like during Gen Con and at 11:00AM on Sunday, August 16th , come to FFG HQ and the person who has collected the most league tokens will win a special prize!
The Call of Cthulhu LCG Gen Con League is a great opportunity to meet other players and to get some experience playing the game in a friendly and casual way while you're at Gen Con.
Call of Cthulhu LCG Gen Con League Deckbuilding Rules: Decks must be a minimum of 50 cards, not including Domain Cards and Story Cards, and may only consist of cards from the Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set , Mountains of Madness Asylum Pack , Ancient Horrors Asylum Pack , and any Asylum Pack from the Summons of the Deep expansion . A deck can contain no more than three copies of any card, by title.
We will also be running small League Tournaments on Friday 8/14 at 7:00pm and Saturday 8/15 at 7:00pm if you are looking for a slightly more competitive environment.
