Discussion: Who do think the most infuential characters will be in Block 3 and why?

DOES NE ONE THINK PROMO SEAN COULD TOP A BIG TOURNEY

Promo Rikuo only made it to 29th place and he had Rhythm Break and Chicken Kick on his side! How can Sean ever hope to top with those OP power attacks rotated?

Actually...yes! Promo Sean isn't the most fascinating guy around, especially since he has to compete with Alex (All/Fire) and Donovan (Order), but if there's one thing he can do better than those two, it's have knowledgable draw power. If you mix him up with Visions of Destiny or A Year's Difference, you can stack your deck appropriately for both Enhances. His first Enhance is cool too, because you can eat their attack, gain vitality (to make up for the damage taken), and draw into a block. The second enhance can either turn a hand of all attacks into no attacks, or a hand of no attacks to all attacks.

Anyways, overrated characters are overrated:

-**Dan**
-**Guy**
-**Kyoshiro**
-*Gen*

Seriously, they aren't that good. Dan is complete and utter garbage. Guy has use...in Tsunami Sabre. He does have some niftiness, but not enough so. There are more reliable speed pumps and momentum discard to rule-out using him. Kyoshiro has a great form...that's once per game. Oh, and stop comparing him to Ukyo. They share no symbols, Ukyo discards cards from their hand (the main reason to use him IMO), and his F is playable as many times as possible. Gen is the ultimate "I look good on paper" character. Anybody who has ever built him and ran him in tournies *coughMecough* knows he only looks shiny on paper, but sucks in reality.

Good characters are good:

-:::Akuma:::
-***Alba***
-***Alex***
-Andrew Olexa
-***Donovan***
-::E. Honda::
-::Felicia::
-***Hanzo***
-*Hsien-Ko*
-::Ibuki::
-***J. Talbain***
-*Jivatma*
-**Juni**
-::Kilik::
-**Lilith**
-:.:Mai:.:
-*Makoto*
-.:::Mitsurugi:::.
-**Ninon**
-::Raphael::
-*Rolento*
-::Sakura::
-***Seong Mi-Na***
-*Soiree*
-::Sophitia::
-.:::Taki:::.
-::Talim::
-***Terry***
-*Yi Shan*
-***Yoshitora***
-:.:Zangief:.:
-*Zi Mei*

I'll point out a few things on certain characters who perhaps don't stand out immediately:

E Honda should not be a sleeper character. I've heard people, somehow, praising Maxima. Don't. Praise E Honda. E Honda has the proper handsize-to-vitality ratio to matter. Although he's clearly built to tank, he has 2 of the best symbols in the game next block, and can run Feline. Hsien Ko has a couple uses, but mainly the un-errata'd Harrier Bee. I've built the girl off pure block 3 Chaos, and she's already a contender. Kilik I'm just going to say, right now, is a sideboard character. However, he's still amazing in his own right. Lilith, I can't believe nobody mentioned. She's the new Nakoruru of next block, and unlike Nako's mediocre symbols, Lilith has EVIL! Makoto is highly underappreciated due to handsize-to-vitality ratio, but anybody who's ever played her knows her two enhances work in perfect unison. Mitsurugi's boring playstyle overshadows the fact that he's basically a different Yi Shan. Rolento is the new Athena. Unlike Sophitia, Rolento has both Evil and Fire. Talim is insanely stupid. My Air Talim deals printed damage with every single attack I play. Zangief, I will also say right now, requires ::Zangief:: to be stacked to be any good. However, :.:Zangief:.: easily has the most broken reduction in this game.

In no particular order:

1. Promo Bishamon- The only real source of Block 3 mill. He has 5 handsize sure, but the man doesn't play off his hand. The ability to just run a pure wall of Earth/Evil defense, coupled with the ability to run Flying Power Bomb (THE mill card), Yoga Adept, AND About Face (highly underrated) without more or less worrying about checking them is amazing. Oh, did I mention he can run BRT, Chester's, Revenant's Calling, AND Silver Spoon (which until Spike gets b$%&ed is THE meta card)?

2: RoM J. Talbain- Again till he gets b#%^ed that is. The man is a beast and so far I've only really seen two decks ever be able to beat him. One is Bishamon (an even more boring deck to play) and the other is Zi Mai blitz.

3. Zi Mai- She's amazing. Just pure unadulterated amazing. Built in damage pump AND commital effect? And she's got a 7HS and Fire/Evil jank.

4. Guy- Before anyone says anything Guy is good. REAL good. His speed pump is increadible against heavy draw/control decks. Also his momentum discard says that Hozanto will be coming at you for powerfull 3. Plus his symbol spread is damned near increadible. Two mid tier symbols in fire and chaos AND the best symbol in the game: Order.

5. Donovan- The new Ukyo. Potentially better. Insane card draw and a full card clear ability? Oh and he's got Order and Spike? SIgn me up!

6. Promo Ukyo- Kuzryu Reppa, Spinning Beat, if they're still alive clear and do it again. Nuff said.

7. Promo Zangief- Read Promo Ukyo

8. RoM Felicia- SOMEONE is gonna win something with 6 check first turn Spikes.

9. Zhao Dayu- Probably one of the best discard characters out there. Combined with Jitvatma's support her off Void or Evil is increadible.

10. Alex- He's Alex... Seriously is there any other reason needed? The only change I made to my Alex deck was take out the Chain Throws and Mercurious' and threw in Shin Shoryuken's and Million Flickers instead.

Overrated characters going into Block 3:

1. Akuma- Hi I'm Destiny. I beat you. Next

2. Gen- He'll win stuff just because of his symbol spread. His abilities are garbage, but the ability to lock folks down with Order, and then Spike em is just dumb.

3. Seung Mina- 5/34 Defender loops are fun and all. But 5 HS is still 5Hs.

4. Gill- He sucks. I don't care what anyone says. 8HS is great, but his ability (not two abilities, ONE ability) is AWFUL.

5. Alba- Arrogance or not he's awful. Crappy stats, and nowhere near as good as the Promo one was.

Anywho's my two cents.

Cheers,

Brad

::Dhalsim is surprisingly good! Free foundation that ignore's CC hack and an pretty decent symbol spread. Plus, dropping a Ways of Punishment before you attack is a great way to catch your opponent off guard!

I'm also having fun with .::: Taki off of Air. I think she could be a serious contender as she easily plays like a 7-8 hs character with her static draw ability.

Andrew Olexa - a built in hack mechanism that can hit -7/8 depending on what's in the deck, and a built-in momentum generator to fuel that ability AND feline spike? yes. please. now.

Dood b-rad how are gen's abilities garbage? if you check off brt, forethought etc play a cheap throw like mega spike and pick it up...uhhmmmm you lost me. added onto that his symbols are bonkers and he's 7hs/24vit!!!!! he's disguisting.

akuma is still good. his ability, brt and seclusion should enable him to keep destiny off the board. not to mention he can tap your commit/destroy hate then olcadans out destiny and evil has begin anew.

if anybody's overrated it's zi mei. yes she is good but order will be an up hill battle.

Definitely Andrew olexa, mabye not so much for the hax ability as for the built in momentum generation and a solid set of symbols. Although if you don't have destiny out the hax hurts alot too.

I agree Gen is pretty good, and Akuma wil always be a decent character, plus Olcadan's and Begin Anew will sweep Destiny off the board. Aside from that, If you are playing a evil foundation base with fire attacks namely, Ira-Spinta, Destiny is not as big as a problem as you think.

Zi Mei is good but very over rated, she will win largely due to her symbols being Death/Evil/Fire.

Keep in going guys!

With proper support in the next few sets, new Taki could be busting heads far more than any of you realize.

And by proper support, I mean anti-life gain. Serously, 15 damage and proper foundation building on turn 2 is AWESOME.

In an attempt to name a few that haven't gotten all too much attention here...

Yoshitora - Off Air he gets LoTM which just makes his first E dumb, and the second ability is certainly nothing to scoff at either. Plus if I remember correctly there is a certain top player with a propensity for running him...

Jivatma - The Stars Aligned is some kind of good, and furthermore it's not even unique -.-' And then he has a damage pump version of Awakening built-in. Awakening was pretty good last I recall.

Vega - That redux ability is just way too good not to get him used somehow at some point. And he's another character that has a top player who likes to run him -.-'

Yang - He negates Rejection. Anything that can negate the most problematic card in the format is good. (At least LoTM is a foundation, and Spike can technically be survived)

Very true Jivatma is pretty good, 30h, 6hand size is nothing to sneeze.

yeah tanner air-lexa is absolutely bonkers good.

evil base with ira spinta and feline spike and death seal as your bad checks. even just straight air beats is nasty.

and let's not forget chaos, shiz is nuts esp with mid pleasure and def looping shiz and adding cards ffrom hand to mom via n type, kof 2006 and the other fio one that does it too.CRAZY.

akuma basicaly don't let you play destiny. alex is alex. alba has arogance. starter sakura has recursion. domination ryu has the best draw in the game period. j talbain is nuts. zi mei maybe a litle overated, but still awesome.
