R-22 VS the RZ-1 (a-wing mod)

By Cev Lost, in X-Wing

Okay So First up some back ground. My group who is participating in a what if epic story arc (meaning we can change the time line if someone screws the pooch on a mission)

Currently in our story line, The Rebel alliance has barely recovered the 4 proto type X-wings from Fresia and failed to recover the Incom development team.

As slight Game master, I have been restricting our Rebel and imperial player to certain ships. (including 3d prints).

But have come to a point where the A-wing could be used.

According to Wiki's or wookie's

The RZ-1 is the after Yavin A-wing where the R-22 is the pre Yavin Awing that you commonly see Jake flying.

The R-22 has a two seater model, where the RZ does not.
The R-22 is not as maneuverable as the RZ

I wanted to bounce a couple of thoughts off everyone here to come up with a decent R-22

So some things first.

This would be considered your RZ-1

With out monkeying the Dial, I was thinking to show off your "Lessor engines" you would have to either drop a green die, or remove the boost or even booth.
That said using only Generic crew, What would adding a crew slot do. (mind you there are currently no named pilots allowed for this, and the game play isn't a tournament based concept where your every move is calculated down to the last math percient, it's a How would my pilot react style of flying with out knowing really where the enemy would go.

So with that Here is a couple of thoughts on the R-22 (with out monkeying with the dial)

The point calculator I have gave me this value
with 2 agility it dropped it to 16, and 13 for no crew (agility 2)

So thoughts and ideas?

Four extra points, plus the cost of the crew itself?

If you're adding Crew, you need to consider what each one will do to the ship & look for over powered combos. Normally I'd say just add 1 point at the most for the Crew slot, but the A-wing has Evade, and with a Recon Specialist on an elite version that can take PTL, you've got a non-unique ship with Soontir's Focus, Focus, Evade, action shell. 3 or 4 of those would be OP.

If you're not going to make a EPT version then I'd say trading Boost for Crew is an even trade, and keep the normal cost, after all you still have to pay for the Crew.

Yeah No elite pilots in this.. I was looking for ways to slow it down or dumb down the maneuverablity.

Points wise, the points calculator I've got is pretty spot on with all the ships except shuttles. I didn't change the dice, pulled the boost added the crew and this is what it showed me. for points value (eg 21) If I drop the 1 agility die, it drops the points to 16

This is in the wrong forum entirely.

I would think about making this a title card for a normal A-Wing -- that way, you cut down on the shenanigans with double EPTs and Crew. Plus, you have the added opportunity cost of NOT taking the other title, and you don't put out a whole new ship for something that's essentially the same. I have to agree that RecSpec A-Wings would get ridiculous pretty quickly, so you would probably want to make the title cost about three points -- "Your upgrade bar gains the <crew> icon. Treat all green maneuvers of speed 3, 4, or 5 as white maneuvers. You cannot perform boost actions." Harsh drawbacks, but big bonuses.

RecSpec + Jake Farrell anyone?

I wouldn't think so given I'm trying to convert the game into another style. Conversions after all. not just repainting.

Great suggestions! I has not planned the R-22's to go beyond Generic pilots so no ept's But I do like those suggestions!

So how would you deal with the maneuver issues with out the Crew then? (it was a single and dual seater)

This subforum is meant for PHYSICAL conversions, modelling, and painting. Rules changes would go in Rules Discussion or Off Topic.

No clue on how moderated these forums are, but it should be pretty obvious that this area was meant for the modelling and painting side of this game.

Oh no my sub forums!
