Perhaps your sig. needs an update LOL
Man, there are a lot of great options here. I like the pencil box.
I hope kell553 can figure out how to post pics as I'd like to see his/her stuff. I'd like an easy way to make sections in a box.
(Wish I could attach a picture...this stupid forum wont let me do pics or links).
Just create an account on somewhere like photobucket. Upload your pics via a phone app. Use the direct link URL for this particular website. Each forum is different.
I have the Harbor Freight case, it would be PERFECT if it was long enough for a range ruler. It holds a squad that you can also use with Big Ships, and you can remove any of those little boxes or use them for small ships, dice, tokens, etc. The large boxes aren't quite big enough for regular cards, so some creative foam insert will have to be done. But it can be! I liked that box because it opened and usually fits between maps on a table. And it has a handle. I just prefer the Really Useful Box 1.5l pencil box to it and have moved to that. But this is definitely a good choice!
I use the http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00SMUJOKW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 case sold on Amazon. It holds everything. Like all large ships and fifty ships.
I initially created a foam core insert for a small cardboard box, just for storage.
Mu0n was inspired by my design to create a tournament box fully out of foamcore to bring only the necessary stuff for a tournament.
I then made an insert specifically to fit into an Aldo shoe box for tournament use.
I don't have any pictures of my most recent version, but you can find Mu0n's version here:

I attended a ton of store championships and so I put together a small case to cut down on what I needed to carry with me and also to make packing up between rounds a lot easier.
The case is a small screw/nail organiser from a hardware store, I cut out the plastic dividers and made my own foam core insert. I also created a holder for the movement templates and removable containers for the damage deck and dice/tokens.

That template holder is genius! I'm stealing that!
I was thinking of using a softsided cooler to carry ships. I will further protect small ships by putting them in small boxes (i.e. ones that I get from buying Heroclix gravity feeds) and protect large ships by putting them in their original plastic cases. I then put these small boxes and plastic cases in the cooler.
Thoughts on this?
Note: When I go to a tournament, I usually only bring the build that I plan to use for that day. If I haven't decided what to use, I might bring a couple builds and pick one before the tournament. (I also take this latter approach to casual nights - bring two builds and play 1-2 games with each build). I rarely bring my entire collection out to play.
Has anyone checked these new foam trays out yet? They are fairly cheap and look promising: http://www.miniaturemarket.com/ssearch?q=Game+Plus+Products+Foam+Tray
The FFG dice bags are big enough to hold templates, dice, asteroids, and even tokens if you chuck them all in there. I have small narrow boxes we throw away at work that hold membership cards so I throw a squad or two in there with the cards.
It's easier than carrying my whole collection with me but it's annoying when you forget to unpack it afterwards and can't find all your Xwings later.

Maybe I throw that in my cooler too.

I really like your mini case, its looks easy to use and very organized, well done.

You know I am still considering this to, I was looking at some at REI, now that I've seen the how easy it is to make foam core boxes I may still get one and give it a try.
If anyone is considering using foamcore to make an insert for a box, I cannot recommend the 3 "Using Foamcore" videos by the Esoteric Order of Gamers!
And, for holding the ships in place, I find the design I came up quite ingenious.
asklucien used a similar design to hold his 3 Z-95s in place.
The idea is to have a piece of foam with grooves cut out of it to hold the ships' pegs in place.
It should look like this:

You can see the design here in the first version of a storage box I made (it held 16 ships... I quickly outgrew it):

And asklucien's version:

Those foamcore videos are fantastic, especially the one on rabbet joins which are amazing. I also found using dressmaker's pins to hold things together for test fitting/glueing a real help.

Klutz I am pretty sure your original storage box images are why I decided on a foamcore insert.

I actually just tried the rabbet joint for the first time the other night! Very cool. Makes for cleaner corners and gives twice as much surface for glue.
I often use cut up toothpicks as "nails" to hold stuff together while it dries. I leave them in permanently as well.
Glad to hear I inspired you!! ![]()
