Best valued Starship

Not to get too far of topic, but can Twin Heavy Lasers Cannons (Stock) be upgraded with Twin Turbo Lasers for 0 hardpoints? I want to say yes, because if it costs 1 hard point just to switch similar systems, then to HappyDaze's point, there is never a reason to change/upgrade a Twin XXX Cannons. Ever. For the extra 1 hardpoint that it will cost you, might as well keep the original weapon system and just add the new one.

Thanks HappyDaze. I think I get it now. And I agree, #3 is completely impractical and wasteful. Would have thought that got caught during the betas.

Anyway, back on topic.

After looking over in my book, I can see the lose of ~half of the piloting maneuvers with a silhouette 5. However, with a group of 8 + possible passengers, cargo, etc, I am not sure the Citidel Cruiser or the Nova Courier would be big enough.

See my post above yours for the Upgraded Weapons.

Otherwise, remember that the Gozanti is a space bus, not a fighter (but it can be modified to carry fighters). It doesn't do fancy flying, it just gets stuff there while shooting the crap out of small stuff and avoiding bigger things (get a faster hyperdrive).

The Citadel can carry up to 17 crew/passengers. I think it's pretty big really. OTOH, I still think multiple ships is a great option for a bigger group.

What two ships did you have in mind? 2x Krayt Gunships?

A starfighter/gunboat and a light freighter?

I am not stuck only having one ship.

Fight, smuggle goods/people, carrier, haul freight/passengers (some of whom would prisoners/bounties).

I think go with the Citidel, tune it up with some decent modifications and maybe switch out some of the weapons. That big forward tractor beam is pretty handy.

There are two external racks for smaller craft, so you could look at something like a little A-24 Sleuth for scouting/sneaking around and a HWK-290 for shuttle duties, both those little ships are very good for adding a lot of modifications to them and tooling them up to suit various missions.

With multiple ships, the big things I go for are having the same hyperdrive classes and similar levels of consumables, but these aren't as big a deal if some of the craft convey others (like a ship hauling fighters).

He's probably thinking Space bus and Fighter/gunboat.

There's a LOT of options for making that one work. With the credits you've got available I'd think about a Citadel (or slow as one legged bantha gozanti) and if you want to go full b------d mode, a totally tricked out HWK-290 as your "fighter." (assuming you can FIND a HWK-290... rarity 7 isn't fun.)

****, I how do you guys keep find these ships.

One can almost do anything with a HWK-290 and be extremely competitive. And the HWK-1000 is even more ridiculous and understandable impossible to find.

I definitely like both concepts. Citadel + HWK-290, and the Gozanti + HWK-290.

So what attachments should I be looking at? Hyperdrive Generator, Advanced Targeting Computer, ...... ?

After the discussion about, am I hesitant to ask what kind of weapon upgrades are feasible.

Is the IR-3L-Light Frigate the new name for the Imperial Customs Frigate? If so it should have a hyperdrive. or are they a new form of the IR-3Fs?

Unfortunately that ship does not have a hyperdrive or a nav computer. It is just a system (subspace) patrol craft. And a very old ship too. Pre Clone Wars I believe.

Must be an IR-3F variant then. At least that fits with both the age and role though I've never seen any such craft referred to as light frigates before.

Its up to you. If you'll be using it as a fighter I wouldn't bother with the hyperdrive. Knee jerk says upgraded armor, but you might prefer to keep the maneuverability unless you regularly fight enemies with weak weapons. If you don't have a lot a ranks of defensive driving then upgraded shields might not be a bad idea. Engines... Yes yes yes. Speed 5 is sexy. Targeting array isn't bad. If youve got Tricky Target an ECM package is really good.

Mm, with all the starships in EotE and AoR slowly starting to build up, is there a compilation or collection where we could view them all at once?

odd I'm not finding the IR-3L listed there

For Silhouette 4 my favorite is still the YT-2400 since it had good baseline stats(especially with a Rigger), and very modifiable and can accommodate 8 players.

For Capital Ships of Silhouette 5+ I like the Gozanti best to accommodate smaller crews.

I really like the Ghtroc 720 light freighter. Very good at being a freighter (fairly high passengers and cargo capacity) along with a solid, well-armored hull and Medium sensor range. A few Upgraded Weapons mods (replacing the twin light laser cannon with a quad laser cannon and adding a second quad laser cannon in a ventral turret) makes for a fine early game ship at only 128,000 credits. With 3 customization hard points left, there's still a fair bit of attachments to upgrade it further.

I'm kind of curious whatbook does the IR-3L Light Frigate appear in?

I am the pilot/rigger in a 8 player group and have recently gambled my way into a large sum credits (1.4M). So naturally I started diving into the books looking for what kind of starship(s) to get. However, I have to admit, I am bit overwhelmed/lost on what/where I should be looking at. I initially thought the IR-3L-Light Frigate was a good ship, but then I noticed that it does not have a hyperdrive. Then I was thinking YZ-775 Medium transport, but that one does not have any passenger room.

The group has a good mix of everything and think of themselves as group willing to do any job as long as it pays well. So I was looking at ships that can do a bit of everything.

Any kind of help would be appreciative.

EDIT: So far:

Gozanti Armed Transport & possible Starfighter

Citadel Light Freighter

CR-90 Corvette

I'd still go for the YZ-775.

Sure, it's listed as not having passenger space, but it has space for a crew of 8 and with 1.4m credits you could easily add some passenger space in exchange for some cargo space (and as luck would have it I have made some suggestions on how to do that here  page 51). Sure, it's not RAW, but you could custom order a YZ-775 with the cash you've got. I love the YZ-775 ... great ship!

If not the Wayfarer is pretty cool too, one of those two are basically the ones I'd consider.

Note that the YZ-775 has several twin weapons without Linked 1. FFG has said that the stat line is correct and that this is not an error. I disagree on this.

Hadn't noticed that... I may just refine my own version of this ship and ignore the official one ... that would be a first  I mean, I sort of get the twin turbo laser not having linked, sort of ... at least I can stretch my imagination to a place the could, theoretically agree ... but the twin medium laser cannons? Those should have linked... the two forward mounted proton torpedo launchers can just as easily be fired twice, giving you 16 shots instead of 8 (with potential double damage), since it's not listed as linked 1 and isn't called "twin" but called out as two launchers ... I know, I'm reaching ...

Why? Previous systems had "twin" weapons with a unified damage code, why not here to?

In this system, twin typically means Linked 1. I can see no reason for the weapons on the YZ-775 to not follow this model.

That's not reaching on the torpedoes at all. It has two separate launchers each with the stats listed. That means each has its own Limited Ammo 8.

I've been following this thread with great interest but I still favor the CR-90 Corvette. Having just finished rereading some X-Wing books (Wraith Squadron in particular) I've been taken with the idea of a CR-90 modified to carry fighters. In the book, the space directly below the bridge is converted to hangar space with room to carry 4 TIE Fighters. With further modifications, Wraith Squadron was able to fit 9 X-Wings within that space in a rack configuration. I know the books aren't canon or anything but they do provide ideas what could be done.

Our AOR campaign centers around a Corellian gunship. It is a good ship to take on one or two squads of TIE fighters.

It is a stretch to call it a good value for anything other than space combat but the limited crew (91 including the players) has been receiving names as they become relevant to the story.

The size and durability of the ship has made up for some of the problems our small group has had surviving space combat but the gunship has still had some big battles.
