Background Music App/program? Looped and "focused" music playlist?

By kevin belgium, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

In a Star Wars Game , one definitely wants Star Wars Music, prefferably matching whatever action that happens ingame at the moment...

In almost every video game about star wars , there is always a background tune sampled straight from the soundtrack

that is Played in a LOOPED format , mostly with a somewhat seamless transition to the repeat..

There are hundreds of Star Wars soundtracks and soundboards , with the soundtracks , one usually hears the music as it was heard in the movies ,

with several tracks containing somewhat wildly different pieces , since for instance ; an action scene getting a long romantic and tranquil intermezzo ,

as happens in the movies sometimes , when the action cuts to different scenes frequently, or a tranquil part being suddenly interrupted with an action part .

For an SW RPG , or even another Star Wars game, the best way to give a fitting SW vibe to the proceedings, is to have apropriate music in the background.

However , just using the movie score with certain tracks on repeat /playlist for certain scenes is not perfect , precisely because of the different parts in one single track.

As is used in practically all SW video games , either there are specific iconic parts of the musical score taken out of their tracks, and are played on a kind of loop with an as seamless as possible transition to the repeat,

OR for the games with really good sound design, there is even a slight extension, as several of the iconic parts of the SW tracks are repeated in a slight variation elsewhere in the soundtrack as a intermezzo ...

thusly making it possible to extend such a loop with those parts...

What i was wondering , is there any already existing program/App that has this ready to play with a possibility to organize tracks based on action, sad scene , etc...?

Or if there is not , could any of the aspiring App designers ,- of which there are several on this forum since people have been known to create fan apps for FFG games-,

create such an app which would allow SW gamers to to have the "unblended" versions of the music , with an ability to sort them into several different playlists for action, suspense , sadness etc...

I have tabletopaudio.com bookmarked on my Ipad after someone here suggested it's use. Note that it's not just music but a list of background sounds based on environments or situations. Titles include such things as: Oribital Platform, Terror, Ice Cavern, Starship Bridge, Derelict Freighter, Before the Storm, and Super Hero for the climatic moment.

There are others out there like this one depending on your platform.

I dont know of any apps. But alot of the background music I use is from soundtracks from the different Star Wars videogames. They can sometimes be a bit of an easier fit then using the movie soundtracks. Not sure were to buy them outside of collectors editions, but you can find alot of them on youtube or extract them from games yourself with a bit of work.

Syrinscape is a pretty cool app, particularly the ship sounds.

i use syrinscape, good for ambiance fairly good at customization

For looping background ambiance use Darkraven

I typically use Pandora, set to a movie soundtrack station (we seeded it initially with Hans Zimmer). It often syncs up nice with whatever is transpiring in the session.

I have a copy of every Star Wars music bit up to this point, from every source! I use them all of the time with an amazing website. http://rpg-ambience.com/

I have almost every Pre-Gen made on there so far with all major scenes and a few important ones I added from experience of running the games over and over. Download some SW music, upload it to your Google-Drive, and set up the RPG Ambience.

I also use Philip Hue lights for visual effects. I am kind of a nerd.

Hope that helps!

I've found that Crossfading is an extremely useful ability to have when transitioning music from one scene to the next. There are a few programs out there that do it, but one that I've found works very well is called "PlayerPro."

What I'll do is pick out tracks from various Star Wars soundtracks beforehand and select songs for each scene I expect us to encounter. Video game soundtracks are excellent sources of music for "looping" purposes. When I want to transition to the next scene, I'll use crossfading so the players barely even notice that one song has ended and another started.

I have a two in one tablet laptop. On it I have a 20th century fox fanfare video and official star wars music (not just the movies) sorted into folders by theme. I just loop one song per encounter... last time I departed from my typical pattern and played the themesong to "the good, the bad and the ugly" (for a quick draw show down)

I don't think an app exists to do what you suggest, OP, but you might have luck as I did splitting the soundtracks up into themed playlists: Combat, Intrigue, Cantina, Good Times

I have had great luck with Ambient Mixer, for example, one bed for starports: http://science-fiction.ambient-mixer.com/inside-the-starport
