XP for rumor quests?

By Madmartigan, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I am just looking for some confirmation here.

In the quest guides for all of the main campaigns, in the rewards section of each quest, except finales, it says that all players receive 1XP regardless of who wins the quest.

In the quest guides for all rumor quests, in the rewards section of each quest, it does not say that all players receive 1XP regardless of who wins the quest. And in the mini campaign rules from the small box expansions, it specifically states that when playing a mini campaign, this bonus XP is added in as "Additional Quest Rewards."

So, even though it is not explicitly stated, this implies that when playing a rumor quest as part of a main campaign, the rewards for winning a rumor quest are only the rewards listed in the rewards section of the quest, and each player does not receive 1XP as they would after a main campaign quest.

Am I correct here?

I want to say up front that I do not have any of the manuals in front of me. Having said that, we have always played that Rumors in a campaign do not provide XP unless it specifically says so ...

If memory serves, I think Armed to the Teeth and At the Forge at least award 1 XP per hero if the heroes win.

The reason for that is that if XP was rewarded to heroes or the OL in any Rumor Quests, it would seriously unbalance the campaign. Heroes would have more abilities then needed. Or the OL would have more of an advantage. It's done on purpose.

This is correct. Rumor quests do not provide XP (unless it explicitly says so) but they also do not "advance" the campaign- for example, you can't move on to the interlude after playing 1 campaign quest and 2 rumors- you need to play 3 quests from the actual story, and the rumors are completely additional (they're also not considered when counting how many quests each side won.)

Does the introduction quest provide experience?

I don't recall the name but it is the one with the goblin archers have to escape before the heroes kill the named

Ettin.

1xp per player (hero and overlord) regardless who wins or loses for the introduction 'First Blood'.

Yes, and I believe this is right in the quest guide. Agent J- the only quests that don't award any XP are rumor quests (and, since they're the end of a campaign, finales.) Any other campaign quest or mini-campaign quest awards 1XP to every player regardless of the outcome. Some quests (including some rumors) award additional XP to the winner, and this will be printed in the rewards section.

Thanks for the explanation. Can always count for a thorough response and that makes me

very happy.
