Drea Renthal ability timing.

By Rauhughes, in X-Wing Rules Questions

The pilot ability text reads

'After you spend a target lock, you may receive one stress token to aquire a target lock'

Does this trigger immediately upon spending the target lock? For example Drea equipped with R4-B11 fires a proton torpedo at a tie fighter he has a target lock on. Thus the process order would be;

He discards his target lock,

then ability triggers before Attack dice are rolled(?) so re-acquires target lock,

rolls to hit,

spends target lock to mod dice,

triggers ability and re-acquires target lock,

defender rolls defence dice,

spend target lock to force defender to reroll dice,

trigger ability and acquire target lock on new target,

resolve damage.

Drea then finishes the attack with three stress and he TL still up, correct?

Thus the process order would be;

He discards his target lock,

She.

then ability triggers before Attack dice are rolled(?) so re-acquires target lock,

Yes.

rolls to hit,

spends target lock to mod dice,

triggers ability and re-acquires target lock,

We do not know if the ability resolves before or after the reroll.

defender rolls defence dice,

spend target lock to force defender to reroll dice,

trigger ability and acquire target lock on new target,

Once again, we do not know if the ability resolves before or after the reroll.

resolve damage.

Drea then finishes the attack with three stress and he TL still up, correct?

Correct.

Edit:

Three stress tokens with only two green maneuvers on the dial might not be a very good idea.

Yeah, but if you're bouncing TL's about like a maniac and sporting a auto blaster turret I think it could be worth it. Not too much red on the y-wing dial. We waiting on an FAQ for confirmation on timing then?

Yes we are. But do not hold your breath.

The other thing is if you can achieve this spend, reacquire, spend, reacquire, spend, reacquire with your target locks, you will load up the Y-wing with stress and there's not too much green on the dial either. It may be entirely possible, but is it entirely practical?

Sounds good, but not so hot against lists with higher ship count. Once the target locked ship dies, forget taking any more actions.

From reading the Most Wanted Part 1 article it seems it can all be done.

The pilot ability allows locking onto any enemy ship, not just the one you had the lock on. You only need to lock onto the next ship at the right moment. :rolleyes:

Yeah, that's the plan. I've been running proto torps and ion torps. This way you can generally severely weaken two ships (or destroy them if they're pretty weak) on the approach as Drea has to be the most deadly torpedo delivery system in the game. then the autoblaster kicks in and you can generally cause headaches with that without actions and deny zones. Pairs well with Xizor.
