Played in a fun campaign last night at my store. The GM allowed E-wings a modification as follows:

You may use the boost action immediately after a green maneuver

We played with it, and it really helps out the E-wing.

I really liked the way it made the E-wings feel different.

Just thought is was an interesting fix.

Definitely makes R2 Astromech significantly more appealing. I'd say it'd probably be too good on Corran. Triple action regenerating PTL Corran, quadruple action if you count Fire Control System. It may be worth turning the maneuver white if you use the boost.

EDIT: IG-88 isn't nearly as big a pain in the ass as a regenerating, PtLing, double-tapping-always-with-a-TL Corran.

The title isn't a bad idea, but I think it should come at a three point cost and be an E-Wing only modification instead. That way you choose between a free boost off a limited set of maneuvers, or you take a boost action for an extra point to open up your dial more.

True! We just used the lower level pilots. So yeah I agree on corran seems a bit much.

I also forgot something else.

He allowed us to barrel roll using the 1 bank maneuvers too. That might be interesting, but then again on corran it would be crazy good.

Perhaps something like this would not be too over the top:

A free Focus action on a ship that can only take a modification is very different than a free Boost on a ship that can carry an EPT, Systems slot, an Astromech and munitions.

You didn't say that. You said stressless PTLesque effects seemed a bit ridiculous.

Well, every Interceptor's taking that and Autothrusters, and is going to town.

Generic E-wings are just missing the ability to focus/evade. E-wings with focus evade every turn are a pain to kill.

It can be fixed with an Astromech. Essentially copying Night Beast's action. After you perform a green maneuver you may perform a free focus action. 2 pts.

Bear in mind free actions like this are typically priced at 3pts, but this is aggressively costed, since it helps the E-wing function (which is already overcosted) and the Y-wing gains the use of the Blaster Turret (already a 4 pt investment). The X-wing is helped less, but it gains the ability to Focus/TL often which is a nice ability to have. Save Focus for defence, use TL for offence. There aren't really too many named X pilots that benefit from it, most would choose something else (though it has a fun interaction with expert handling).

I don't know why everyone gets up in arms about Corran becoming super duper OP if all the rest of the E's get a buff. Even he isn't widely taken. When Super Dash came out, it only took about 2 weeks for the guys running him to switch from Corran to 3 Z's, if they weren't already. Any E-wing fix that brings them up to parity will only put Corran a little farther towards the top than the other E's, it won't cause some sort of "Phantom Redux" where everyone's bitching about them.

I would price it at one point, because IIRC the E's are 3 points or so overpriced.

Don't feel so bad it's not one of my fixes. It's my store's X-wing GM. I just passed it on.

I think 2pts is a good place for this free Focus Astro. X-wings are 1.5-2pts overcosted in today's meta, and E-wings are 2.5-3pts over (except Corran, who's only 1.5 pts over). I don't know where Y-wings are since S&V released, but Rebel Y-wings still need some help (S&V Y-wing Pilots are good, Rebel ones not so much). I don't think Corran will be taking this droid much, as he loves his R2-D2 way too much. It would SERIOUSLY ell out X-wings and Y-wings though, which is why I'm behind it. It won't be fixing generic E-wings though.

Here is another idea we were discussing last night at the store: Since everyone even juggler says the e-wing is about 3 points over costed, how about this

All Non Unique Astromech Droids with a cost of 3 or less count 2 pts less (To a Minimum of 0)

Fluff:

The E-wing has Advanced Droid ports which allow older less advanced Astromech Droids to run much more efficiently. The more advanced Astromech droids fail to gain any bonus from these ports.

This allows E-wing to gain and use free droids, which helps make up the cost difference

How about that for a fix?

Shouldn't that be a modification, not a title? Do that and EU, and it's the same problem as everyone was objecting to earlier, no?

How about adding the Boost Action to the action bar for the round after performing a green maneuver?

"After performing a Green Maneuver your action bar gains the Boost Action for the remainder of the round."

It would make the E-Wing and X-Wing somewhere comparable to the Starviper during the ship's action step.

If whatever fix FFG implements takes the form of new astromechs, they'd ideally be able to tweak the X-wing and E-wing with the same release.

I'd rather not have to

a.) spend yet more points on overpriced generics

b.) limit my upgrade options in the astromech slot when we already have very fine options limited by the ships that can take them

If the decision is that elite pilots for both the X and E are ok but the generics need help, couldn't the resulting fix be a multi-point upgrade.

"Upgrade costs "0/1/whatever" but if the pilot has the Elite Talent icon add 2/3/whatever points"

Wording would perhaps need tightening up but wouldn't that be a simple way to fix the generic without undercosting the likes of Luke, Wedge and Corran?

In the case of an astromech, also leaves option to introduce elite Y wing pilots without worriying about a prior X / E fix muddying the water.
