next expansion wish list

By The Thing In The Attic, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

ok so Innsmouth has been out for a while now. is that it now? Game over so to speak? Has the final act ended and the curtain fallen?

Lets see what we would like FFG to produce for our beloved game next... the ultimate six expansion deluxe edition retailing for huge $ or £?

what would you spend your hard earned cash on?

Please add to the wish list and/or vote on the items in it. I'll start [vote in the brackets]

1 A full colour hardback comprehensive rulebook including an extensive glossary of all cards with explanations and clarifications. [1]

2. A scenario pack of all the scenarios released so far for the league + some new ones, complete with special cards and rules [1]

3. Chase cards, promo cards or mini themed collectors sets. for example the sheldon gang members as blight cards or ally cards. [1]

1) Improbable. I would prefer (and it would be a more practical request) a printout of the finalized upcoming super-FAQ.

2) Wouldn't care at all for this.

3) Mini add-ons and extensions are always cool in my book. A couple extra heralds, a few extra blights or Nodens's Blessings cards or something like it.

Something I would really like to see would be like 9 Next Act cards, each one showing an unstable location from Dunwich or Innsmouth. This would help patch up the issues with Dunwich/Innsmouth/Next Act dilution.

An updated Wilson Richards that says "4 focus and does not spend focus to change sliders."

An updated Daisy Walker that says she can only use one of her two abilities, once per turn.

An updated Patrice Hathaway that says other players can only spend her clues to add to skill checks, but not towards sealing gates.

An updated Lily Chen, who specifically cannot heal more than one point total (sanity or stamina) per round.

Replacements for the Herbert West and Terrible Old Man cards that say to discard them when the AO awakens.

With all these things, I would be happy.

An emphatic no to anything collectible for me, that's not why I play. Besides, with a game like Arkham, I'd just print out the rare bits and use them like that. The first two things you listed are already freely available online, so I doubt they would be great sellers.

Coincidentally, I was thinking about investigator archetypes that would fit well into Arkham, but which we haven't seen yet. I came up with a few:

The beggar
The housewife
The local historian
The mechanic
The priest (or the rabbi)
The shopkeeper
The stevedore (or the teamster)
The teacher

Though I'm not really motivated to create new investigators. Honestly, I feel like I have most everything I need at the moment. I do like Tib's suggestion about combo NAB/Dunwich and Innsmouth mythos cards. A new FAQ would also be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.

My wishes:

1. Enough Mythos cards for Dunwich/Innsmouth locations to even out the percentages and avoid dilution.

2. 6 additional Ancient Ones, bringing the final tally to 30. (Daolath, Mordiggian, Zoth-Omnog, Bugg-Shash, Cyaegha, Ubbo-Sathla)

3. 12 additional Investigators, bringing the tally to 60. Ideally, 8 women, 4 men, to make it an even 30/30 split. Ideally, a clergyman of some kind; we have a nun but no priest or pastor.

4. 2 additional Guardians, bringing the total to 5. (Isis, Kthanid?)

5. More Heralds.

Really, all I want is six more AOs and 12 more investigators, to make it 60 and 30. That appeals to my sense of numerical symmetry aesthetics.

I am more than satisfied with all the investigators and GOO's we already have. Some cards and investigators might need a revised version as Tibs say but that isn't enough to add another expansion. I have already printed out the scenarios and see no reason to officially re-release objects already available..

I want to se a small expansion that really add a lot of story to the game, we already have the personal stories, tasks/missions and all the wonderful flavor text on all the cards but I want more.

There are several titles to accuire in Arkham, I want to see more action once you get them. How about to bringing down the sheldon gang or investigate the silver twilight lodge once you become the deputy. The silver twilight lodge could send you on several missions....

Also a lot of people complain about the fact that it's the most hectic at the start of the game and that it wears off.. some people have tried creating different additions such as the "rising threat". What about a special deck of cards you draw from each time the doom track advances much like the blight cards. It would create a larger feeling of "what problems need our priority". The rumors are one example on this.

Also it would be nice to adress the issue that some locations never gets visited, also something the task/missions tried to fix. When was the last time someone had a normal card-encounter at the bank for example?

I think (and hope) we will see more expansions even though it might not be another town. There are several other ways of continuing this great game, and for FFG to earn more money. As always I hope the creators listen to their fans and along with their own ideas try to please as many as possible.

Still 109 games left in my schedule and still no KH for me. No need for new ones on my account lengua.gif .

Ah, but people arent talking about needs in this thread, theyre talking about wants. happy.gif

Basically, I want all the expansions expanded some more. I want FFG to recognise that there is a strong desire among the people who have bought their products to be able to use them together without one or all of them being a pointless waste of setup time. This could be easily and cheaply accomplished, and it would sell. Sure it wouldnt sell to new players, but Innsmouth was inclining that way anyhow.

Stu The gamer.

Starts with more money than sense (extra $$, 1 less San than normal)

Negative ability: analytic paralysis, whenever the invetsigator could move in more than one direction, make a will -X check, where X=(number of possible directions -1) or you are delayed. Each time Stu is delayed through Analytic Paralysis place a token on his sheet. If Stu has more than 3 tokens on his sheet and would be delayed through Analytical Paralysis the other investigators may chose to feed Stu to the GOO by spending 1 clue token each (Stu is devoured).

- Mariana the ex-nun cultist

Er... I have one box containing the invests sheets, AO sheets, rules booklets and boardgames. Everything left is : three long boxes that contain vertically the 1010 AO cards, and two boxes that contain horizontally the ~850 Invests tiny cards... and that's it. I could manage to put the 7 expansions in all that, that takes very few space... so... I wouldn't want any more expansion, please, don't add more !!!

....although, actually... I would be so, so, so glad to open a new box, tiny or big, with brand new contents for my favorite game :) A tiny box would be great. A new kind of object, for instance...

I'm going to assume that this is just an opening thesis to start a nifty thread, and that you're NOT BEING SERIOUS AT ALL.

Any problems I had with this game--Kingsport fun but isolated, Dunwich diluted--have been solved by Innsmouth. Innsmouth takes the best of both DH (Unstable Locations) and KH (mechanic not dependent on a fixed set of Unstable Locations), and blends them together beautifully to get the jazz back into the gameplay. From Day 1 of AH, I've craved Deep Ones...but I had no idea the panicked joy they would bring with them.

That said...as dj2.0 says, this is about wants, not needs.

I want small box expansions based on Yig, Ithaqua, Tsathoggua, Abhoth, Glaaki, Shudde M'ell, Y'Golonac, Chaugnar Faugn, Nyogtha, and Zhar. And I want a do-over for Nyarlathotep!

I want updated versions of the original 8 AOs. Something that puts the GREAT Great Old Ones back on top. Something with more Spawns and monster surge mechanics.

I want some "universal" Encounter cards that allow me to find the DH and KH Allies in Arkham itself.

I want another collection of Personal Stories, so there is a "random" aspect to them (like Kevin's other baby "Android").

I want an official Monster Cup...even though I don't need one anymore.

I want a "Martial Law" stand-up token (like a flag or something) that I can place on the "halfway" doom space and then "erect" on the Innsmouth board when applicable.

I want FFG to stop giving me plastic stands that DAMAGE THE CARDBOARD, thus forcing me to add them to my designated landfill.

I want more Gnoph-Keh for Rhan-Tegoth. I want as many Tcho-Tcho chits as there are Mi-Go chits. I want a few more "unique" Stalkers.

>SIGH< I want a few "edited" Investigators, exhaustively and brutally playtested, so I can stop hearing the words "hate" and "broken". And I want a updated Jenny and Bob that won't cost me FIFTY BUCKS.

And now that THAT'S said...FFG, I don't need ANY of this. The game has finally reached an equilibrium that I am satisfied...nay, THRILLED with. I don't care about any of this AT ALL.

Well, except for the Gnoph-Keh thing. Really could use a few more Gnoph-Keh. gran_risa.gif

yes the opening lines were just fish bait (to snare deep ones perhaps)

please don't get me wrong i am satisfied with the game, god i love it soo much. it's the best gaming phenomenon i've ever encountered. i prefer it to video gaming i prefer it to rpg's. it's the only game my gaming group has played where we have all played on the same side and haven't argued over rules or moves. when we play it we have "the best of times" and none of the "worst of times"

i guess i got a bit scared thinking that basically insmouth is the last expansion (and a great expansion it is too) and somewhere in my tiny brain i i failed my sanity roll and got to thinking "no more expansions = genral decline of interest = no more web support = players abandon the game = game slides in to the Ayss". i have experienced it first hand in the CCG gaming market.

it happens to so many other games. i really do hope this game is supported (with or without new products) for a very long time.

so i thought by seeing what people say they would like to see produced, the powers that be might think oh ok that would be cool we can manage that. failing that i thought it would be interesting to see what folk thought would be good additions to the game. it's good to share ones dreams... hey! there's a place on the board for that you know...

>GROAN< Oh, tell me about it. Thank FFGod that Call of Cthulhu has found new life as an LCG.

Gotcha. Your experience mirrors my own. AH is indeed one of the finest, funnest, and fannist board games ever made. Forgive my misunderstanding of your tone of...uh...type. preocupado.gif

Of course I have no figures in front of me, but I keep seeing new people pop in here every week. If the forum can be taken as a loose distribution poll of new players, then it would seem that Arkham Horror is getting a steady influx of new players EVERY WEEK. And you can add BGG AH forumites to that as well. So I don't think they're planning on abandoning this any time soon.

Two possible things:

1) There's always been a lull after every Big Box as time is given to adjust. A small box usually comes a few months later, but maybe FFG isn't planning another one yet. My guess is wait until after GenCon. Big gaming announcements tend to come shortly after the "Comic-Con of Games".

2) FFG doesn't NEED to hype Arkham Horror, because it's doing fabulously without any giant marketing push. So maybe they've diverted their designers and attention to some of their other properties that aren't doing so well, or have been waiting for Innsmouth to get out of the way so they can have THEIR Expansion (Galactica and Battlelore come to mind).

Actually, I'm satisfied with the game as it is now. Of course, there could be more investigators (still waiting for X Y, the Preacher happy.gif), AOs, cards of all sorts.. But there's just quite enough of it already (stop throwing rocks, pls!). Another board, another game mechanics, set of cards. And my table is just too small (to be accurate - i can't play it on my table even now, it's my floor that is becoming too crouded). You could say, that there's always an option to not use some parts. But which ones - I just like them all...

Well, um, anyway.. The universal one box to keep it all in would be great.

And as Jgtt7771 said - I want FFG to stop giving me plastic stands that DAMAGE THE CARDBOARD gui%C3%B1o.gif

I got rid of them : I kept just ten of them in my stored set, put the three/four other bags into an expansion's tiny box and bye bye to the cellar :) (no, I have no cellar, but hey... sheesh)

I'm not sure I understand the issue. I put the stands on the investigator tokens the first time I use the investigator and never take them off again. Once in a while they'll come off in the box when I travel with the game to see my sons, but they haven't really caused a problem with the cardboard, since they are rarely removed.

I personnaly never had any problem with these stands damaging the box (I suspect the concerned people just above exagerating a lot - and I mean, come on : it is jgt7771 !!!) ; it is just that I actually can't let the stands on the figures and have to remove them each time because every little thing (stands, figures, tokens) get into one small fishing box. And it fits properly. That is, the stands taken out. And it doesn't annoy me to put four of them back on the figures everytime we have a game happy.gif

A "patch" box wouldn't be completely without precedent - FFG did it for Talisman, iirc. But a box which included revised cards from every expansion would be a bit unusual and I think we'll be lucky to see it. A re-written rulebook wouldn't hurt, although if it was done right, it'd basically end up changing or re-wording almost every rule.

I think the best way to expand the game and change the playing experience is to add new investigators and AOs. This seems to be what Innsmouth was all about, but I'd still like to see huge stacks more of them. Now that there's a broad spectrum of AOs who don't alter the core game dynamics all that much, it's ok for there to be some really odd ones too - Quachil Uttaus is a step in the right direction. There's plenty of scope for 'specialist' AOs which are almost scenarios in themselves and which change the game in fundamental ways.

There also need to be many more heralds and guardians. It doesn't feel like there are enough heralds whcih make the game quite a bit more difficult without "taking it over". King in Yellow, Dagon and Hydra are all quite low-impact, in my experience; Black Goat of the Woods, on the other hand, is usually much more of a problem than the AO itself, and you feel like you're playing against the herald. Which is fine, but really what I want from a herald is a sort of 'peripheral' difficulty increase whcih doesn't make the AO irrelevent, so that the main style of the game is still dictated by the AO.

More personal story cards, so you have a choice when you pick your investigator. Different stories should suggest different ways of developing the character, so you pick the one you think helps most with the playing style you're going for.

More monsters also wouldn't go amiss.

The Corinthian, you litteraly took words out of my mouth, as we say in french. You're my Messenger, you give me +10 to all my Forum Checks !

and that !...

and that too, even if actually I would prefer "better" and improved personal stories because we rarely play them : we think most than half of them suck.

thecorinthian said:

... ah, that couldn't be perfect between you and me, could it ? I don't second that : there are so many monsters now, the bag is so full (we use a huge shoes tissue bag from Timberland lengua.gif) that you never pick up the same, so, thematically, it is great, but for the games mechanics, it sucks (if there any THAT monster, they leave, well, they never do).

I NEVER EXAGGERATE. gran_risa.gif gran_risa.gifgran_risa.gif Just like Dam is never wrong. >honk honk<

If you purchased any Arkham Horror product produced within the last year (or so...definitely around Kingsport Horror), you would have gotten FFG's current choice of plastic stands, but these were not the stands that came with the original releases of Arkham and Dunwich:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/342835

I have the original, unrevised copy of AH and my stands are like clothespins: they open enough to slip in an Investigator (or monster, Gate, etc.) chit and then lovingly close around them, gripping them firmly without pressing into the cardboard.

THE NEW STANDS HAVE THREE SWORDS THAT YOU SHOVE YOUR CHITS INTO, MARRING THEIR FLESH PERMANENTLY. enfadado.gif

I will not abide by the mutilation of my chits for any reason other than standard gameplay wear-and-tear.

ColtsFan76 had located a company that would sell the original "clothespin" stands, but only in massive bulk (like hundreds of them!!!) He collected a bunch of our names, bought several hundred, and distributed the stands back to us. I have about 45 now, which I use for both Investigators and Monsters, more than enough for any single game. If you want more information, you'll have to ask ColtsFan over on BGG, since he never comes to these boards anymore.

I got a metal finger nail file and filed them down in the inside so they don't damage the chits. A few I over filed but now with Innsmouth I have plastic stands to spare. I used to have medium sized binder clips on the bottoms of my investigators. But when I got innsmouth that up too much room. I have my investigators in a 16 space chaosium chit holder filed by their homes. Works perfectly, once I got their homes mesmerized.

Off topic, but...

Tibs (or anyone else for that matter), was there errata/clarification on Patrice and Daisy about their skills? I know the ones about Wilson and Lily Chen (although I don't remember if I ever read an official response to Lily). If so, could I get pointed to the thread(s)? Much obliged.

No, those changes to Patrice and Daisy are my own. Daisy was the huge "broken" character when she came out; Patrice far exceeded her. The Daisy mod is my suggestion to make her fair. The suggestion for Patrice is Mariana's, I think, and it's an excellent idea.

Lily has been clarified that she can't toggle her sanity/stamina slider to gain one point of each, but there is no carification about gaining more than one point for moving the slider more than one notch in a single direction; allowing that would still make her immune to Yig's attack (the reason I had a problem with her in the first place) and probably too strong.

I don't have the threads offhand, but the Offical Answers from Kevin Wilson thread might have something about Lily.

Am I the only one that hates the old-style stands? They are nearly impossibly to open and you risk tearing apart the cardboard in putting them on. In fact, whenever an investigator falls out we just swap a new-style stand onto them. All they do, in my experience, is leave three small grooves, and they go on with far less drama than the old ones. Not to mention, they look a bit nicer, in my opinion. Perhaps I'm missing something?
