From an 'old' EU canon perspective the Nebulon-B escort frigate was designed by Kuat Drive Yards and fielded by the Empire as an anti-insurgency ship.

So for those of you willing to have some fun and bend the rules, have a go at using it in Imperial service. Provides some core game change, and gives you some options for friendly games. Also makes the core set more of use for those who want to be faction specific.

I personally don't see why FFG just doesn't do an Imperial Nebulon-B model or throw some Imperial cards into the current one. Going by the EU the Nebulon-B probably comes closer to equality in numbers of those shown employed by the two sides. {67 Rebel and 65 Imperial not counting those shown in use by both sides due to capture or defection according to Wookieepedia)

I think it's more likely we'd see an Imperial Nebulon-B2 model if the Empire is getting a frigate.

It's very similar to the Nebulon-B but being a different design, it allows for some tweaks over the Nebulon-B version but with a better chance to balance it with feedback from the Nebulon's performance in the meta.

I would love to see the Nebulon-B2 since that's my favorite ship class introduced in the X-Wing Games but that's another ship I feel both sides should have.

Because it's Iconically a Rebel Ship from the Original Trilogy and that trumps any EU reference.

This has come up quite a few times. It's pretty certain we won't see an Imperial model from FFG officially:

- As Funk Fu says, the only appearance in the movies is as a Rebel ship. To the average person that hasnt read the EU, that makes it a Rebel ship.

- FFG love to maintain strict faction identity (though Scum has at least indicated a slight willingness to bend). No Rebel TIE Fighters that they had in the EU, no Imperial CR90's in X-Wing, and most likely no Neb's for the Empire in Armada.

But by all means just use them yourself in friendlies. I certainly plan to!

Also, the canon has changed with the EU being dissolved almost completely, and the only place it was used as such was in the EU.

They'll use EU where it's fun, looks good, and fills needed roles for each faction. But no one can really use the canon argument for EU stuff anymore.

That said, I only see this happening with significant modifications to it that make it look more imperial. This would require more than just a paint job. However, at that point, it's better of for FFG to just create a new ship like the Raider. There's also other ships that could fill similar roles, slightly smaller or bigger, that fit better with the imperial aesthetic, such as the Vigil class corvette.

Funk Fu well that may be true, this was aimed at those who know some of the 'old' EU. Everyone forget how to have fun here or what? Average people are not the ones I was worried about trying this with anyway. And for those in my group that didn't know this ship goes both ways, I will be happy to spam them with nerdery on the subject so they can be clear on my intent.

For those of you who are joining the discussion, this is not a thread about why they won't make an Imperial version. Or that the official take on the EU is dead and blah blah blah. This is about those of us who grew up in a different time, who remember the ship being used outside of the Rebellions ranks. I simply suggested you use the existing stats and card in your Imperial fleet for some variety and fun.

Tarkin is one of the novels that are officially canon so I fail to see what your point is.

The point is that despite the presence or lack there of current canonical situational wellness, you should have fun and forget whats what with official. Come to the dark side and have fun.

I love the idea of mixing and matching ships in games like this and X-Wing - my friends and I played an X-Wing campaign that pitted the New Republic against the Imperial Remnant so we could just use whatever ships we wanted to, with some Scum mercenaries thrown in. It was a blast! And we plan on doing exactly the same for Armada.

It would be nice to see things like an Imperial Neb-B and B2, but unless you play competitively there's nothing stopping you treating them as that anyway for a bit of fun

Speaking of fun, already have some tiny gun boats and tie avengers on the way...

Zahn's not bad, especially when compared to other EU writers (I'm looking at you, mr Anderson) but in my opinion he's overrated. Most of SW fans admire him because he created Admiral Thrawn, one of the most interesting villains in EU. However, he also filled Thrawn Trilogy with many Jar-Jar Bingsy motives, like:

- Space sloths blocking force users;

- Main characters sabotaging perfect scheme of the mastermind just because of their precognitions;

- Improbable love story between hot redhead Palpatine's servant and Luke;

- Talon Karrde, a powerful crime lord who took over Jabba's smuggling empire with a sheer power of his compasion, kindness and willingness to help main characters even if that would put his enterprise in danger;

- Noghri and their sudden yet inevitable betrayal;

With you all the way. Good characters at times, but personally i think he's a pretty poor author.

I have to chime in for my favorite author Zahn. I have read almost all of his books besides his star wars books and it is one of the better Sci-FI writers out there.

When I got to meet him at a convention I was able to ask him about how he scales power in the Star Wars Genre. The way he approached it was that the upper limit of force powers was Yoda moving Lukes X-wing on Dagobah. With that constraint he was able to use the characters more effectively and make them out think their opponents instead of just plain overpowering them, or getting a MacGuffin to solve the problem.

• He needed the "space slugs" as a way to create clones again.
• Is it precognition, or intelligence? I would say in intelligence. if you read the Zahn's cobra books the whole series is like a chess match between the protagonist, and antagonists. The Villian might come up with a powerful opening move, but through planning and stratagy the Hero's end of thwarting the plans using skill, guile and thier enhanced abilities sometimes used in novel ways
• At first Mara wanted to kill Luke. and it wasn't until "Visions of the Future" where they had a real relationship in (10 years after the Thrawn Trilogy) but not until After Mara scorned him after Luke realized he loved her. I have seen worse attempts at shipping, and i think Zahn did a good job of it.
• I will give you that on karrde, Karrde is basically IMHO Tim Zahn writing himself into the genre. The guy even LOOKS like him (with more hair, and beefier)
• The Noghri betrayal makes sense, if you understand thier loyalty Thrawn was only based on lies, and the apparent absence of Vader (and his kids) once they were revealed, it was inevitable

The Neb-B2 would be an AWESOME addition to Armada - and would help with FFG maintaining their Faction Identity. Not sure how the CR90 Assassin would figure into this although with the Imperial Raider being leaked for Wave 2, do we still need a CR90 ship for the Imperials?

On the off-topic side this thread, I would hazard that the Neb-B and CR90 being fielded by Imperials is Canon as GOG (Good Old Games) have collaborated with Disney to digitally re-release a multitude of Lucas Arts titles, including X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing VS TIE Fighter, X-Wing Alliance etc, which heavilly feature the Neb-B, Neb-B2, CR90s in use by both the Rebels and Imperials.

I don't think that older games being re-released makes them canon anymore then older novels being re-released makes them canon.

On that line of thought, RogueCorona, are you saying that anything Disney Interactive is involved with in terms of Star Wars franchises is not necessarilly canon?

Why do they have to make things so confusing?

According to what I read Games, novels, and such published after April 25th 2014 are canon but that doesn't apply to the re-releases of the older novels so I see no reason to believe that the re-release of the older games suddenly makes them canon.

The only evidence I know of supporting the idea that the old games are canon is the fact that a ship class first introduced in Star Wars Rebellion appeared in Tarkin and IMO that's flimsy.
