Drunk Driver Kills Boxes of Armada

By Mikael Hasselstein, in Star Wars: Armada

Of course, HNN has the real story:

Rogue Planetoid Strikes Arkanis II

But my home FLGS - Red Castle Games (Facebook page)- was hit by a car with a drunk driver fleeing the police. The car drove straight into the store's front window. In some of the imagery, I can see boxes of Armada lying about the storefront. I remember they were stacked up there when I went to go pick up my pre-ordered box on Tuesday.

Red Castle had insurance, but it won't cover everything, so they have a GoFundMe campaign to raise money. $500 was already donated by the owner of another local (and friendly) game store, Guardian Games.

Incidentally, I had been in discussion with the owner, and he was telling me that he was going to get into Armada personally, and was quite excited about it.

Wow...

The police released the driver's mugshot

I mentioned it elsewhere that I bring my son through there now and then to get him Pokemon boosters with him being all hopeful and excited to get an EX. Lots of parents bring their kids through that door. And the owners are very cool. Not.Happy.At.All.

That guy better have a nice long stay at the House.

Will have to get a game from there soon. So Mikael, I don't think we can game there tonight. I will be at GG though.

Glad to hear no one was hurt.

Indeed.

Regrettably, I have too much work to complete this afternoon/evening, and then I'm picking up a potential hire from the airport tonight. So, still no Armada for me.

Donated from over in canada ... local game stores need to be protected like a endangered species ... because with the internet ... they sorta are

Watching the Video and seeing that Table plow through those games. So glad no one was hurt.

Donated $20. Hope the FLGS makes a speedy recovery

Thanks so much for helping out! 59b86743ff6b62a108cb0d41fdbaff03_61295.g

Mikael, a Prius managed to get its hood through the cinder block wall in the room where we play (you've been there) right next to the game tables.

The Horror.............

Wow, that's either a really tough Prius or a really pathetic wall.

Well looking at the cleanup picture they and the gaming community have really cleaned up the mess well. And if you look closely at the picture by the glass case there are some Armada boxes that live for future Admirals. :D

I played at a little (as in: 4 players) X-Wing tournament there today (well, yesterday at the time of writing). Everything was clean and just fine.

Afterwards we had one of our players show us Armada, to much delight. I think that Red Castle may become a bit of an Armada hub. Even the owner sauntered over to check out our demo game.

Hey, someone else in Portland! Cool.

Sorry to hear that. Do you guys have any tournaments planned yet?

We got someone looking into it but no, not yet.

On the bright side the shop has gotten a lot of support from its community and it looks like this will be sorted out before long. I think everyone at Red Castle is feeling a lot better than they did on Friday, a lot better. :D

They got about 3/4 of what they asked for on Gofundme and on the weekend Lots of costumers swung in to purchase and show their support. (And it looked like all the Armada sets sold.)

Not planned, but they do have at least one tournament kit.

Oh sweet. If I ever have the time I might fly over and participate when you guys get one planned. It all matters on time (and Money, mostly money).
