Do you use the Planets in the Books as settings, with no extra info or research?

Have you used any of the planets from the core rulebook, only using what is in the book as setting info? I guess plantes from other supplements count as well, especially those with limited info.

I find it's kinda hard not to look at wookiepedia at some point before the game, even if I subsequently toss the occational fact out the window. (rarely, but it happens). I may have run Formos (from the adventure in the back of the book) without looking at anything online first though.

Honestly, I've read the entire Rebellion-era series of novels and short stories (but not comics). So when I look at a planet in the rulebook, that generally just reminds me of the feel of the place from a novel. If it's someplace new, then I go with just what's in the book. I look at wookieepedia for "facts" that I want to nail down or have no idea about, but not for the feel of a planet. I might look for a name of a city, like a capitol city, if it's necessary. But generally, I just use the books and my own knowledge to establish the feel of a planet.

That immersive feel is what I'm going for. The jungles of Thyferra will feel different then Kashyyk or Tatooine or Nar Shaada. The rule book generally gives enough to establish that feel, at least on the planets I've looked at so far.

all Socorro gets is a tiny blurb, and totally ignores an entire sourcebook put out by WEG. And then my players want to go there and it be their base of operations, and i have to read a crappy version of a PDF before the next session where only one of the 5 players shows up and the game gets canceled.

in my other game (links below) I have an entire sector I have to flesh out from the limited material in a WEG book "tramp frieghters"

I pretty much never use setting material as presented, it's just a starting point.

Can`t you just make it up and fill it in, based on the very broad strokes? Make your own sector on Nar Shaddaa, come up with a casino island ond Ord Mantell, invent a colony on Tatooine.

I will probably try make a journey to froz at some point and make a big plot about getting that plant, and getting everything that would be needed to establish an appropriate ecosystem, hidden on a planet that is quite dangerous to travel to.

There will be a large crater which will be where the terraforming will happen, while the rest of the planet will still be barren.

I'll probably be looking to the fallout games for establishing the feel of these missions.

I am not good at creating locations and settings on the fly

I am not good at creating locations and settings on the fly

I bet most people have to work at it. What I like to do is make (or look at other peoples') set pieces. If I keep the NPCs flexible I can have a suitable setting with interesting things no matter where the players go. I let the players help me re-skin them when they enter the scene by asking them questions. Finally, I reserve the right to narrow my eyes and and stare at a person and then mutter "moving on" as my glance falls on the next person.

It is interesting sometimes people get so curious abouta character ttrying to guess and understand them so much, when really they don't even exist
