I need Tuskan Raiders

By RodianClone, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

My players are on Tatooine, transporting two caged gundarks through the desert, to a hutt slave master. They have stolen a landspeeder and the trip will take them about two hours.

I was thinking of ambushing them, using tuskan raiders, but I don`t have them in any of my books. What in the core book would make sense to reskin as tuskan raiders?

- Btw. can you think of any other cool, Tatooine-ish things that could happen in the desert on the way to Tanka the Hutt`s Moisture Farms(aka. Slavetown)?

How much session time are you looking to spend 'getting there'? A robust combat encounter can translate into quite a bit of session time.

maybe four or five hours. It doesn`t matter if the combat takes up a little time. This is our second session and they had one fight on their ship when in hyperspace and one of the gundarks got loose. Combat was fun and it helps us learn the system.

Have them explore a Jawa sandcrawler looking for coordinates. We did this on a mission it was a lot of fun!

Tusken Raiders like you mentioned are always good.

Other ideas

-Maybe a trip by the Sarlac?

-Krayt Dragon Engagement?

-Dewbacks and that Giant thing the Jawa rides in Mos Eisley in the remastered editions can be fun animal encounters.

Well if you're looking to spend for five hours getting there then you probably could craft a couple three modular encounters . Your sand people one, sand persons?, .. Is a good starting point. Maybe during the combat they suffer some damage and then bump into some Jawa traders and have to bargain for parts . Then maybe have them bump into an imperial patrol where they have to BS their way out of it . That's three encounters that use a variety of talents and skills potentially .

Yes, I want to use tuskan raiders, but they aren`t in the book so I have to reskin something. What adversaries would make the most sense to reskin as sand people?

One of the player characters are actually a jawa. He has a half burried crawler somewhere in the sand on the way to the slave farms(what would slaves do on a moisture farm or factory?)...

Carry heavy stuff, do dangerous stuff, clean smelly gross stuff. That's what I'd have mine do..............

Tusken raiders were in the adventure Crate of Krayts in the EotE beta. I adapted and modified them. Here ya go.

Thank you! What has been changed from the beta?

The beta has "Snipers" equipped with Slugthrowers and Gaffi Sticks as well as "Reavers" with just Gaffi Sticks, but both use the same stats. Mouthymerc's updated version is very similar to the sniper. He corrected the damage of the Gaffi Stick (should be Brawn +2), added heavy clothing for an additional point of soak, and gave them thermal cloaks. I believe the 1 point of Melee Defense comes from the Defensive 1 quality of the Gaffi Stick, which would only be in effect when the Tusken Raider is using it.

From the beta:

Tusken Raider Snipers (Minion)

Brawn: 3

Agility: 2

Intellect: 2

Cunning: 2

Willpower: 1

Presence: 1

Soak Value: 3

Wound Threshold: 5

Defense: 0/0

Skills (group only): Melee, Perception, Ranged [Heavy], Survival.

Talents: None.

Abilities: None.

Equipment: Slugthrower Rifle (Ranged [Heavy]; Damage 7, Critical 5, Range [Medium] Cumbersome 2), Gaffi Stick (Melee; Damage 6; Critical 3; Range [Engaged]; Defensive 1, Disorient 3).

Mouthy merc has all the toys...

You have a couple of options when running them. You can create or use them as seperate stat blocks, each group of minions with just the rifle or Gaffi stick exclusively. Personally, I would run them as minion groups that can switch back and forth between the two weapons. As a minion group they will only be able to to make one attack of either ranged or melee. Once down to the last one you can always adjust for just one of the weapons.

Thanks but I am just using the same tools that everyone else has access to. Creating NPCs is just something I enjoy. It's even got me work before on a game. Doing the Bounties thread has just kind of kicked me into high gear lately, hence the reason I've pumped out so many. Anyways, if people enjoy them and find them useful then that's all that matters to me.

Use slavers and the slaver rivals

How many of these guys should I use aganinst three very new characters with only one previous session under their belt?

What kind of skills/guns/stats do they have?

Depends on the point of the encounter. If it is more for flavour a minion group equal to the party size +1 would be fine. If they are supposed to be a little more challenging, a couple of minion groups of 3 each would work. Or even one minion group of 3 per character to make it tougher. Combat characters can make short work of minion groups depending on weapons and abilities.

And if the PCs have a lot of XP under their belts minion groups of 6-10 so you make them more dangerous for longer...

The advice I always hear is start small and ramp up over time till you get a feel for what the pcs can handle. Do not be afraid to add reinforcements if the pcs are making short work of your encounter or having the bad guys give up if the pcs are getting hosed. Maybe some reinforcements arrive for the players.

Edit: double post

Also remember that the PCs are not killed once their thresholds are exceeded, only defeated. Just like when Luke had his bell rung by a Tusken Raider and was rescued by Old Ben, the Tusken Raiders could be scared off after defeating the PCs...maybe some passing moisture farmers, Stormtroopers on a Dewback (have fun explaining the crates of stolen blasters, or even a Jawa Sandcrawler. Afterall, sand people are easily frightened, but soon they'll return...and in greater numbers.

We are playing tonight and I am pretty sure that if the player characters kill or capture one or more tuskan raiders, at least one of te players will want to take off the raiders mask and see how it looks underneath... I have no idea and google wasn`t much help.

Nothing concrete except for this.

The Grave Tuskens, a group of warriors that had pledged allegiance to a Dark Jedi named Maw,[5] flaunted their bare faces, which provided a few elements about their species' traits.[6] The Tusken Raiders had grayish skintones, dark eyes and a short, feline muzzle.

The PC could unrap it only to find that its his father...Nooo! That's impossible!

I have a similar issue with Jawas. What do they look like?

According to the novel for A New Hope, they looked like rats.
