Wave 3 speculation

By Animewarsdude, in Star Wars: Armada

I have no idea why my last post was posted twice...

Alright, although is may be more of a wish list than predictions, I think these ships would be solid wave 3 choices:

Rebels

Nebula-class Star Destroyer

Endurance-class Fleet Carrier

(to balance out the strategy of Rebels since they have no ships that are similar to Star Destroyers so far)

Dreadnaught-class Heavy Cruiser

(because the Peregrine is another iconic ship akin to the Chimaera)

Rebel Fighter Squadrons Expansion Pack 2

E-wing

K-wing assault fighter

Z-95 headhunter

Defender starfighter

Imperials:

Interdictor-class Star Destroyer

(it's an iconic ships that players want)

Tartan-class Patrol Cruiser

(or something similar to give the Imperials another smaller low cost ship)

Imperial Fighter Squadrons Expansion Pack 2

TIE Defender

TIE Phantom

Preybirds

Alpha-class Star Wing

SUN CRUSHER! Please please FFG make Sun Crusher it's so canon wow much love the book very powerful!!!!!!1111one1!!!

I hope they'll take the few ships from EU that have good designs and ask Disney for permission to design new ones, like Raider-class.

One could say as their defining characteristic, Dreadnoughts are perfectly at home in the Imperial Navy :P

I think if there were -ever- an Imperial Nebulon-B and CR-90, we would see the Nebulon-B2 variant and the CR-92A Assasin corvette. Both of them are upgrades over thier previous classes, and would allow FFG to provide us the same kinds of ships but with some latitutde to make them different so they aren't identical.

Count me in for giving the Imps the Modified Neb-B2. TIE Fighter PC game made me feel at home with them and they werre a nice counter-equivalent to the regularly appearing Rebel Nebulon-Bs.

Interdictor cruiser over the Star Destroyer variant please.

In the end though, whatever comes out play what you want and/or home rule exceptions. Tournaments will be tournaments but outside that anything that goes with both players is good to go.

I'd like to see the Interdictor for the Empire and, oddly enough, the Rebel transport for the Rebellion as I think both are iconic and would work very well as 'support ships' for other vessels in the fleet. After that I'm not really sure what I would want from Wave 3. The Dreadnought class Heavy Cruiser might be interesting (especialy if both sides could take it but used it in different ways).

Imperial:

Dreadnaught-class Heavy Cruiser (Medium)

Interdictor-class cruiser (Small)

Carrack cruiser(Small)

Rebel:

Mon Calamari Liberty Cruiser (Large)

Quasar Fire Cruiser (small)

Assault frigate mk I (medium)

To be honest I have no idea how could all those New Class ships from years after Galactic Civil War era be "solid choices" for the game, mate. Unless you're talking about them stat or balance wise or expect them to pop up in ep 7. Otherwise they seem just as if not more unlikely to appear in the game as prequel trilogy ships.

All this talk of dreadnoughts reminds me of this old gem:

39023_front.jpg

At 90m, would the GR-75 be on ship bases in Armada? It seems too big for a squadron base, but I think it might weird on even a small base.

I was thinking it would be cool if they made a BFF-1 Bulk Freigher or Container Transport pack that was neutral, but came with its own Convoy Objective card or maybe a mini-campaign to destroy/protect a resupply shipment.

Reb fighters pack 2 (more characters)

Imp fighters pack 2 (more characters)

Interdictor

And no clue about what else. But rebels need Z95s :D

I am using generic freighters for intel sweep mission markers

N-1 Naboo? :P

Not sure these will be Wave 3 or what, but I have some ideas for future ships too.

Dreadnought - I agree with many of the posters we are likely to see this very soon. I think it will most likely be Imperial with an Assault Frigate Mk I for the Rebels.

Venator SD - In the last prequel it was shown in Imperial service. I think we will see it, but maybe not for a couple waves.

Acclamator (SP?) - Again, I think we will see it eventually. Besides, it and some kind of trooper for the Rebels would even more closely link Armada to Imperial Assualt for campaigns. I think the designers will have that in mind for long term sales strategy.

Bulk and Carrack Cruisers (I hope!)

I could also see Munificent frigates and Recusant destroyers eventually as either Rebel or Scum and Villany type ships. I think t we will definately see is more Imerial Corvette type ships that FFG makes up specifically for the game to round out fleets without make a ship to speciallized. An example is tha Lancer. I think we will see it eventually, but right now, it's too specialized.

N-1 Naboo? :P

Boo this man, Boo.

;)

I want more small and medium ships. There's plenty of opportunity for unique squadrons. Right now unique squadrons are based around a unique individual. There could be room for unique Squadrons that are more powerful that the standard squadrons, but weaker than the unique piloted squadrons (Luke, Vader, etc.). And since they already introduced rogues and scoundrels I would hope for more independent ships.

Ships

Dreadnaughts (Medium) - High Damage but Low Shields due to aging tech

Lancer Frigate / Corellian Gunship (Small) - Specializes versus squadrons

Carrack Cruisers (Small) - Specializes versus other small craft

Interdictor (Small) - I support the suggestion that it lowers speed of craft w/n Close-Medium Range by 1

Squadrons

Tie-Defenders

Assault Gunboats (Imperial)

Rogue Squadron (X-Wings)

Gold Squadron (B-Wing)

Green Squadron (A-Wing)

Saber Sqaudron (Tie-Inceptors)

181st Fighter Squardon (more Tie-Interceptors)

Independents

Hapan Battle Dragon (Large)

Z-95

Skipray Blastboats

Hapan Battle Dragons could be pretty cool:

  • Can and must fire both shots from the same fire arc, these shots can only target one ship.
  • All arcs have the same dice

If you do the Battle Dragons, you gave to include the Nova-class battlecruisers.

The timeline argument is a good one, but I think you can still make the argument that it is still a valid choice as long as you accept the E-wing and Preybirds. Here it goes:

E-wings were first introduced in Thrawn's campaign (9ABY) and that was also the time Preybirds were being used by the empire. The Nebula and Endurance ships existed in 16ABY (and apparently the ones in existence were finished by 20ABY) so they very well could have existed around the same time as Thrawn's campaign. Is it a stretch? Yes, but still plausible. Plus with a lot of the iconic and movie ships being in waves 1 and 2, they have to start getting other ships from somewhere.

oh, and thanks Wookieepedia!

I'm curious when did Interdictor Star Destroyers become iconic?. Personally for me when I think of Interdictors the first thing that comes to mind is the Immobilizer Interdictor cruisers and I imagine the same is true for many since they appeared in so many more places then the Interdictor Star Destroyers.

Preybirds first appeared in the EU novels in the Thrawn Trilogy, though that may have been a retrocon, but first appeared in use by Imperials in the Hand of Thrawn Duology I believe. They also appeared the West End Games RPG Campaign book The Far Orbit Project which began shortly after the Battle of Yavin.and in a couple of kids novels set between A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back.

And FFG has changed the backstory of the E-Wing so that they were in use during the original trilogy era.

I think that people often mistake Interdictor Star Destroyers with Immobilizer cruisers because of the similar design, but 90% the time they mean Immobilizers. Ever since they appeared in Empire at War I have seen them on bajillions of artworks. Even if you google "star wars interdictor" 70% of the pictures popping up are of the Immobilizer Interdictor with it's flat, triangular tower, while the remaining 30% are split between the Old Republic beak-shaped Interdictors and the Interdictor Star Destroyer.

In other words - people easily mistake those two. :D

At this point I should just say whatever the well-know Imperial ship with gravity well generators.

And considering that's true about E-wings, then I concede my point.

If they made the GR 75 what would it do? It has no guns. It was have to have relevant abilities that others ships shouldnt be able to take.

Model wise, i could see them putting two models on one small ship base. Or they could throw scale out entirely and mske it the size of the corvette.

But honestly, the only way i see its use relevant were to be as some sort of mission objective. This could be cool. Have it come with two or three models and three different mission cards. It would be a mission expansion pack. And im sure they could find a similar thing for the imps.

Zann Consortium could easily be a third faction. It's not quite a scum and villainy group like the hutts. It's more powerful and militant than them. More like an underworld master with a huge PMC.

I would quit if FFG was stupid enough to add a scum faction to Armada. Seriously, no. It works with X-wing but not here.

Support ship in some capacity. They obviously do something in fleet actions because they show up at Endor.

I suspect that they left space open for the GR-75 or a few of the other smaller ships because they could have made the corvette smaller; it's larger than an A-wing or Scyk. So it wouldn't shock me if it showed up.

They have a few lasers and at Endor the rebels literally sent every ship they had with a gun on it.
