vs 2 IG-88 Help

By lo742, in X-Wing Squad Lists

2 IG-88's, ship load out changes, but with there stats, maneuver ability and fire power are killing me. I can damage them somewhat but the 3 agility plus shields/hull I cannot get enough done before I die.

I play Empire side.

Suggestions on a squad to help counter them? It is a 100pt game.

:)

I've had success against them with high maneuverability ships. As maneuverable as the IGs are, you can pretty consistently deny them a lot of shots with higher PS Interceptors (7+ or 9+, depending on if the IGs have VI or not), and against them has been one of the few times my attempt at a Fettigator w/ Engine Upgrade really shined. Being able to choose literally any bank on his dial and boost right after can make Fett painfully difficult for non-swarms to lock down.

Soontir Fel and, to a slightly lesser extent, Carnor Jax with PTL should also be highly effective against them. Turr Phennir is also pretty solid against them, though if they have VI he will too in order to actually be of any use. If you know going in to it that they won't have VI, I could also see a solid argument for a Stay on Target Tetran Cowall, as he can be just as silly with his movement as the Fettigator.

Post-nerf, I can't really say when it comes to Phantoms, though I suspect they're probably not a terrible way to go either.

Really though, it's hard to beat Ace Interceptors if what you want is dead IG-88s.

Asteroid placement is key against aggressors..... they love their space so clog up the center. Beyond that, aggressors are PS6, which makes them easy to arc dodge (one of them at least).

Aggressors don't fly like anything in the game. I've heard it once described as "how the defender should have been". If you have aggressors or access to them, I recommend flying as such to better judge what they're strongest and weakest at.

The sure fire aggressor killer: fett + eu + autoblaster, though I like the scum fett much better than the imp one. If you stack VI on him too, you then get a ps10 fel/whisper killer too

I'm going to a small tourney tomorrow with something like the above as I expect few IG+Boba and 2 IGs builds.

The idea is to have an alpha strike with both ships at R1 of IG-B.Rebel Captive, asteroid placement + proxy mine are there to limit their dial options.

Not sure is THE counter, let u know how it goes

I wouldn't recommend them unless you enjoy them, but Defenders have surprising game against aggressors

small bases, white 4k, and flechette cannons allow you to engineer situations where one Aggressor simply can't get shots on you, leaving you to 2v1 it (and, their statlines being so similar, two deltas will mince a single Aggressor baring hideous, hideous dice)

Two Deltas w/flechete cannons and PTL + stealth + thrusters Soontir is thus far undefeated by aggressors, even during one game where I lost Soontir in two rounds and left the two Deltas to slug it out to a victory (with 5 health left on the survivor before the final exchange)

if you don't enjoy Defenders (they are weird, finnicky ships after all) then don't try learning them just for this match-up.

I've seen high PS turrets put in some work against them (yeah, auto-thrusters, but you have a firing arc and if you arc-dodge you're still not getting shot at which is more than worth their blank --> evade) and I think double Bounty Hunters' natural bulk and size could play havoc when they're already having problems fitting between well placed obstructions.

Aye, I haven't got to try a Decimator against IGs yet... but I have to think a high PS Decimator with EU should be able to minimize the amount of shots the IGs actually get at him, all while keeping his turret trained on their beady droid eyes.

I've never lost to double IG with the following: Soontir(Stealth Device, Autothrusters, PtL, Royal guard title), 5xObsidian.

A list that I've been close to winning SC with (2nd, top 4) and won some tournaments with 12+ players.

They tend to not like double HLC lists that focus them down one at a time. I've found that my HLC Firespray and HLC Defender list can take apart most other two ship lists pretty handily, even/especially dual IGs. While the IGs need to take stress to reset after a joust, the Firespray can just shoot out the back while the defender 4-Ks, so if they try to just outgun you, usually they will melt to twin HLC fire pretty quickly.

update: won the tourney, faced dual IG at the final :)

last minute change to the above list: Carnor for Soontir + Autothrusters+ Targeting computer .

I had good rolls but mostly he went after Soontir first which is the wrong way to go against my list...

Lol i'm sure you played well but why on earth didnt he take out the decimator first? It is such an obvious target.

And falls like a ton of bricks, oh well.

Congratulations!

Soontir w Stealth, title, AutoThrusters, PTL

Kath w Mangler, recon, predator

Black Squad w ruthlessness

I played IGs once in a tourney and beat them with this list.

I fly Dual Aggressors and I can tell you, I have had many problems with similar builds. A high pilot skill agile ship like Soontir in an Interceptor are hard to deal with depending on your starting placement. I have beaten this build, but it was because my opponent had bad placement.

Initially, you want to place on opposite ends as the Aggressors and try to flank them early while the Decimator takes them head on to eat their damage. If you do flank them early, you should be able to win no problem, but if theyre smart, theyll gun for your small ship early.

I think someone mentioned it earlier too, but if you are trying to flank them, asteroid placement along the middle is key. Even if they know youre trying to flank them, if the middle is clustered, itll be hard for them to S-Loop or K-turn to stop the flank.

In short;
