New Idea: Bonus and Battle Counters from Followers etc

By Velhart, in Talisman

Hi Everyone,

Some minutes ago , i was thinking about this idea.

What i mean, is that everytime we must count again how much Strength or Craft we have, if we are including our followers or magic objects etc

If FFG can make Bonus or Battle counters, then we place them next to the character card, and we can count fast how strong we are.

If we lose a follower or magic object, then we discard the necessary counters to keep track of the total score that we have.

With Battle Counters.. we know how much we get in battle.

The only thing that we do not track are weapons or followers where you must paid for.

This way, we can count faster, and we do not lose to much time, to see how much Strength or Craft we have in total ( otherwise we must write in each time on paper.

In addition to this, Battle Bonussen that you only get in the dungeon, like the Oaths of Vengeance can become a dungeon Battle Counter so we know that it only gives you a +2 in the dungeon.

Do you like the idea or not gran_risa.gif

Hi Velhart,

Good idea aplauso.gif But I have two problems with it:

  1. If you have different items/weapons with bonuses - what should you count in then ? And some items only give you bonus in phycic or battle.
  2. I am afraid it will give some more mess around the board with more counters. And new players could be more confused with extra counters.

But maybe there is a solution to these things gui%C3%B1o.gif

You could construct a coloured dial under the base...I've seen other game counters on boardgames played in a similar way. lengua.gif

If anyone is having that much trouble keeping track of applicable Strength and / or Craft... then they've got too much stuff and not enough real Strength and Craft lengua.gif

In general it is not a good idea to mix in counters for external bonuses with real points for Strength and Craft "skill". There's too much chance of something going awry in the "bookkeeping" when items are lost... or in situations where you don't get to count bonuses for Magic Objects and Followers on some rolls.

Someone else around here once mentioned using D12s of different colors for marking ones Strength and Craft Natural totals. I've always liked that, since it is cleaner and neater compared to tokens or cones... and certainly plain and clear for all to see. Anyone using up a D12 and suddenly in need of a higher number should have headed for the CoC, so 12 is about all anyone should ever need. And the same would work using 2D6 in appropriate colors (or not).

Hi Mr Brogger,

The idea was to count only the automatic bonus points, ( as bonus counters( red for strength and blue for craft) and battle bonussen as battle counters.9 Not weapons

But i think you are right. Maybe it become a mess..

Yesterday i made some red and blue circels from paper and put them on the card so that i see faster if a card gives you a bonus or not, but i am not really happy with the idea..

But adding a D12 is not bad as JC mentioned for natural Strength or Craft without items..

I have the old BI version Strength and Craft counters and I just put them on the follower/object cards. It makes counting strength/craft much easier. I stick them on weapons too, since you fight more often than you test your regular strength, and it's easy to see that a card is a weapon and just not count it.

We all do this when we play, it just makes things go so much faster.

It seems like it works then.

I have not try it yet in a game because i was not very satisfied with placing the blue and red colors on cards..

But i can imagine that you can count faster.
