Getting those squadrons out of the way for ship movement.

By Vertrucio, in Star Wars: Armada

So, I've noticed that squadrons really get in the way of moving ships around. In fact, my last game had a giant furball in the center of the table that multiple ships were forced to maneuver through. it was a nightmare. Not only do you need to make room for the ship stopping in its final spot, but for the maneuver tool to lock down safely.

With other ships, the setup area brackets work great for marking a ship's position and getting it out of the way, and it works for squadrons but not optimally.

What do you guys use to mark squadron positions to move them while a ship moves?

Know of anyone making tokens that can handle this?

As an Infinity player I have the neat title tool from one of Corvus Belli's licensed partners which is used to help swap out models with the standardized "Silluette"-Templates mounted on the respective bases... It's not an exact fit for the Armada squadrons but it is close enough to put next to a squadron, remove it from the table for a moment and then put it back

Hmm... I wonder what the diameter of those squadron bases. Could be worth creating some flat tokens printable on cardstock to slip under squadron bases, differentiating rebel and imperials for when you wan to move stuff around.

In the future, this will be less of a problem as players learn how to keep squadrons spread out.

We don't sweat it. It's not X-Wing where minuscule changes can affect arcs or whether you hit an asteroid or not. So long as squadrons that are engaged stay engaged, close enough is close enough. Spending a ton of time fiddling with squadrons isn't a good way to spend game time, IMO.

Just keep a few quarters in your pocket and lay them down to mark squadrons. Then pick them up and lay down your templates, replacing the quarters with squadrons when you are done.

We don't worry to much about it. We just pick em up and put em back down by eye.

rulebook apparently says to eye-ball the navigation tool

otherwise, as said, just approximate and do your best to make sure engaged squadrons stay engaged

It's a departure from the exactness we've come to enjoy from X-wing, but at the same time we got a [EDITED] more fighters to manage

We use squadron marker tokens when we need to mark thier location.

Your penchant for cursing on these forums just makes more work for someone when the filter doesn't catch it. Grow up a little bit and respect your hosts.

I agree and was about to say the same fickle. It seems like you go out of your way to swear in every post. give it a rest, will you? Your are not 14, and we are not playing xbox.

i'm finding the tool to me more of a PITA than the squadrons

hey guys

at this point cursing is in my lexicon

I do not appreciate any accusations that I am somehow immature for using them. They are words, they carry no malicious intent, and I trust we're all "grown up" enough to not blush at the sight of no-no language

Except you're on a public forum for a game that will more often than not involve children.

Doesn't matter if swearing is part of your lexicon, you are here out in the open. If you choose to swear, people can and will call you out on it.

Don't like that fact? Then don't swear, or don't participate in public discussion.

I will keep an eye out for any words that escape the censors that are not as robust as believed. It is not my intention to have them out for the sake of being raunchy, they're just part of the construction of my sentences.

Of course, this does not mean that I will stop. I do my utmost to be either constructive or at least attempt to be humorous as a part of a community for two games I very much enjoy, and I will continue to do so in a way I find enjoyable until FFG determines my behavior to be unacceptable on their forum space. After 2,499 posts and counting, I can say it's a little too late to tell me not to participate.

You are all free to respond accordingly, but I do not think insulting other users is in line with the nature of any constructive discussion. Feel free to express your dislike of my cursing, but please do try to avoid inferring characteristics about my person on such limited information as a few posts. Doing so makes me far less likely to take any request seriously.

Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend.

Back on topic, I've found that using the setup markers are great when you need to temporarily remove ships/squadrons and then place them back. I don't always both, especially with fighters, but its a nice solution if you want to be exact.

For what it's worth fickle, I agree.

The late great George Carlin had something to say about the context of so called "bad words" that I totally agree with.

At first I was pretty particular about the fighter placement, but then I realized it doesn't make a huge difference picking them up and throwing down a marker. In Xwing or the large ships, orientation is important enough to require strict measurement. With the fighters having no arc or orientation, it is much less of a concern.

The maneuver tool is a major culprit in the problem, but I think FFG realized this, hence the upcoming separate maneuver tool. Just being able to have a speed 1 or speed 2 tool would be very helpful.

we use tokens of many types the cardboard ones pennies, eyeballing, lint,

We use squadron marker tokens when we need to mark thier location.

I do the same.

tho i have also shortened the Maneuver tool to get it down on the mat or at least close to an approximation
