Gen Con LCG Core Set Showdown

By BobtheEnforcer, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Concerning this event:

http://gencon.highprogrammer.com/gencon-indy-2009.cgi/event/CGM0901159

It states that the players must make the best use out of one core set, but it doesn't say if the cards are provided. Do we need to build our own decks prior and bring them? The other problem is............... the tournament listing doesn't say if its 2 player or melee. So I want to build a deck for the event......................but obviously a deck that works well against 2 players is not the same as a deck that works against 4 players. Does anybody know if the tournament director, Paul Bromen, posts here? I realize this is a casual tournament, but I'd like have an idea of what to expect before attending.

Thanks

I'm going to guess the cards are not provided and i'm also going to guess they intend it to be 4 player.

I'd e-mail this address with your question. [email protected]

No response from organized play.....................................anybody else have some info?

Yes. I have heard through the grapevine that the event has changed a bit and is now geared for truly new players.

The event is now essentially an "out-of-box," non-customized Melee game. Players will choose one of the Core Set decks and play them "as is." For the most part, this will be the "board game experience" event for the LCG.

there is also this, while refering to call of cthulu might givesome insigt:

Call of Cthulhu Core Set Showdown

On Friday, August 14th at 1:00PM, we will be running the Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set Showdown. (Registration begins at 12:00 noon, please report to the TO early if you are planning on participating in this tournament, as any player not registered once the tournament has begun will not be able to compete in the event.) This is a special tournament intended for new players. If you've just gotten your Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set, and have read the rules or watched our instructional video, then you are ready to participate in this event. This is a great way to learn more about the game.

To play in the Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set Showdown, just bring a ticket to the event (or a generic ticket) along with your Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game Core Set (which you can purchase from the Fantasy Flight Games Booth (#811)), to FFG HQ in the Card Game Hall (Hall F) and you will be entered in the tournament. You can also bring your friends and split the decks from one Core Set amongst yourselves. FFG staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer your questions and prizes will be awarded to the top placers.

The tournament will be paired randomly in the first round and from there proceed through double elimination until we have a winner.

Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set Showdown Deckbuilding Rules: Only cards from one copy of the Call of Cthulhu LCG Core Set are allowed. Your deck must be a minimum of 50 cards, not including Domain cards or Story cards, and must consist of at least two factions - such as Miskatonic and Agency, Cthulhu and Hastur, etc. - plus neutral cards.
