East Coast Championship Report

By Shaneth, in UFS General Discussion

IMO this was one of the best UFS trips ever. Even tho there was only 18 people, competition was to the xtreme cause everybody in New York is mad good.

Tapout this time is Shaneth (BoyToy Delux), Chubbzinator, Bob, and Hughes (Ted Bundy).

I rolled with Bishamon Mill, Chubbs went with Good Raphael, Bob went with Death Yang, and Ted Bundy ran HOT TECH Gill.

So yeah, 18ppl = 4 rounds of swiss and cut to top 8.

2-0 Round 1 vs Matt Chase w/ Good Kyo
1-0 Round 2 vs Snoop Dogg w/ Void Sakura
0-0 Round 3 vs Pasta B w/ J. Talbain (ID)
0-0 Round 4 vs Ted Bundy w/ HOT TECH Gill (ID)
End Record: 2-0-2

Top 8:
1st - Pasta B w/ Good J. Talbain
2nd - DaiAndOh w/ Tri-Hilde
3rd - BoyToy Delux w/ Earth Bishamon
4th - Chubbzinator w/ Good Raphael
5th - Emo Osei JJ w/ Earth Sagat
6th - Ted Bundy w/ HOT TECH Order Gill
7th - Bodybuilder Matt w/ Good Kyo
8th - Magnum 66 w/ Evil Ibuki

Top 8 pairings:
J. Talbain over Ibuki
Kyo over Hilde
Bishamon over Gill
Sagat over Raphael

Pasta B beats Magnus, Bodybuilder Matt beats DaiAndOh, BoyToy Delux beats Ted Bundy, Emo Osei JJ beats Chubbs.
Two Earth decks and two Good decks in top 4. Two mill decks in top 4, playing each other.

Top 4 pairings:
Sagat over J. Talbain
Bishamon over Kyo

OMG TWO EARTH DECKS IN FINALS!!!!!!! Omar is freaking out!

Finals:
Bishamon over Sagat

Yay Shaneth is your new East Coast Champion!
End Record: 5-0-2

Official Standings:
1st - Shane Duckworth
2nd - Osei Tyson
3rd - Matt Chase
4th - William Coats
5th - Dan Hughes
6th - Shane Wise (Chubbs)
7th - DaiAndOh
8th - Magnus Carrena
9th - Bob Prophet

Conclusions drawn from ECC:
Mill is arguably the best kill condition in UFS. Sorry Steve.
Sagat in finals proves the power of Tiger Fury.
Good is the best symbol in the game right now.
No aggro decks in top cuts. Hilde was pretty much hybrid.

Amazing Quotes from ECC:
Osei to Everyone - "He's beating me with foundations..."
Osei to Magnus - "If I had a va-jay-jay, you'd be in it."
Pasta B to random girl - "Mmm... How you doin'?"
Pasta B to fasion store - "Hiiii ladiiies!!!"
Shaneth to Omar - "Yo, Steve's gonna be PISSED!!!"
Random guy to Omar - "Ted Bundy is here?!?"
Chubbs to Osei - "COME ON!!! DRAW WITH MEEEE!!!!!!"

Chubbs to Osei - "IMMA **** ON YOUR PORCH!!!"
Chubbs to Everyone - "WHERE DOES HE LIVE?!?!??"

Props:
Omar and King's Games for the amazing tournament.
Not losing a single game. ID'd, 1-0'd, or 2-0'd all my rounds.
I got the banner for winning :)
Minuett Dance out of one of my winning packs.
Ted Bundy for getting 5th utilizing his favorite attack.
Bob for barely missing top cuts.
Chubbs for the funny moments as usual.
No diversity at all. All 18 ppl ran different characters.
I LOVE NEW YORK!!!!!!!!

Slops:
Nobody played Spinta. 4x Calming the Mind was USELESS!!!
Stallers. Sure I played a mill deck, but my turns took 10 seconds while their's took 5 minutes. I understand ppl want to win, but that's so unsportsmanlike to stall. If you can't do anything then you can't do anything. Play your **** or pass.

Thanks for the report; I gotta try this now :3

Heh, try what?

Btw, the Bishamon deck I played was 100 cards + Bishamon. I didn't even try it; I just threw in stuff I wanted to played and it turned up to be 100 cards.

HDC said I should name the deck 101 Dalmations :)

congrats on the win Shane.

Seems like the changes since Nats haven't had the intended effect, at least not in NY. The Michigan regionals last weekend didn't have any mill decks up there, but the top 4 decks, Victor, Tira, Seong Mi-na, and Jubei ran 4, 7, 6, and 6 attacks respectively. Only death and order in the Michigan top 4 though, so at least the symbols seem to be varied between the midwest and the east coast metas.

Not to be insulting, but what else is new?

congrats on the win

Hi I'm new... Which Jubei is it?

Oh Shane grats on getting the win with the Mon! :D

Omg 2 earth decks whats this world coming to?

Congrats on the win though shane thats pretty epic with a 100 card deck and all im so glad that this game isnt like magic or yu-gi-oh where you cant win anything without running a bare minimum deck

I hope that the same epicness can happen at world since i havent seen everyone since NOVA regionals and i didnt even really associate that much with anyone since my girlfriend was with me...."sigh" ill never do that again

Thank you to everybody else. B-Rad, the Jubei that has the built-in Tenacious. You can keep playing Spinta every turn. Matt McDonald played it.

Ghetto Gamer)) Yeah dude, the other mill deck that ran Flashy Leg Work + Deadly Ground couldn't mill me without milling themselves too. My 100 card deck is too hawt :) haha The best they could do is draw me with their mill, and never did.

When I played Matt Chase first round of swiss, I beat him with Cutting Edge. He played the Heel Snipe + Flashy Leg Work + Deadly Ground and made it so that if the Heel Snipe did damage, We would both draw 52 cards from our decks, thus ending in a draw. I responded with Cutting Edge and blew up my whole staging area so he milled himself out and not me :) Most epic play of the day, yo!

Wow, what a ****.

Shaneth, my main man, you disappoint me =/

Good is my favorite resource symbol. For you to go out and say it's the best symbol, obviously, makes me feel as though it truly does have hope (and it does).

You're right; I should have went with EGADS!

Well a lot of people agree that it's the best symbol. The amount of control it has, especially if you are Kyo, is unbelievable. Also, since mill is the best kill condition right now, it has the best kill condition. It's good that it's your favorite symbol cause it's mad crazy.

Ooh, *seethes at teeth*, umm...I'm gonna have to go ahead and sorta uh...disagree with you there? Yyeah...

Although regionals results don't lie, I wouldn't really go and say mill is as strong as you may think it is.

Well, I would.

Anyone who's doubting the power of mill...well Omar and Goo, 2 very strong players who do some of their best work with mill didn't play. Omar def would have made top cuts at least, and Goo is highly likely to as well.

Seriously Shane, you guys just gotta get a place in NY. Can't miss a moment with you guys.

The only slop of this tourny was me not running a certain card that could have won the tournament. But no use crying over that when the biggest stage is still ahead...

Like I said Shane congrats and if I knew what I know now then I would had run my Mika or Roth but it is what it is see yall next year.

Oh it was Chase that had that **** Kyo mill dude made me scoop second match cause it was annoying as hell that I couldn't kill him nor destroy his foundations.

What's ironic is that I picked up the Bishamon Mill idea from Goo at the King's Games regional, and apparently Omar made that deck for Goo to play.

So really I won with Goo and Omar's spirits with me.

True enough. One solution to the mill now!

EMERGENCY BANNING BEFORE WORLDS - ALL CHARACTERS THAT HAVE EARTH AND GOOD!

I would like to say my Runner up "Sleepy Fury" deck was soo incomplete its crazy I still owned everyone! What's funny is I'm playing Sagat to snub all the idiots(no offense guys gui%C3%B1o.gif ) that beleive that gutting Evil and Air with a ban list was a smart idea. People talk **** about how overpowered cards are for evil and air but both symbols always did what UFS is about and thats fight!!! Hata & Co should stop banning stuff and start making equally awesome cards for lesser symbols like Life, Water & Chaos. I had a big debate with Magnus about how the bannings were a stupid idea and w/o cards like Chester & Owlface Evil and Air can't protect themselves from really scary cards Earth and Good has. I even flat out said the only thing capable of getting through an Earth Tank would be Good with a big attack like Darkness Blade + Fight Or Flight(more badass than Absurd Stregnth ever was) and I even managed to get past 2 decks of the type in top 8!

As for you Shaneth.. In some strange twist of fate you have become my nemisis lmao! So your ass is mine at GenCon! I knew the only deck I had no chance of beating was Mill. Being prepared I asked a "so called" friend to bring me some Slash Elbows so if I play Mill I can side in Hanzo and win.. Said "friend" didn't bring what I needed so he handed you the ECC title enfadado.gif

But seriously congrats Shane,.

Yeah Osei! Only 1x Close Throw in the deck! I'm glad you placed very high, showing how brutal Tiger Fury really is. Congrat on 2nd man, that's a really good feat!

And yeah, I guess we have become rivals for this year. Kinda funny actually. It is quite fun competing with you, and more fun messin' with you!!! hahaha

I'd love to believe you, Shane, when you say Good is the best symbol right now, but you'll forgive me if I'm skeptical.

Good has gotten nothing but the boot since the beginning of the game, with some good Good support coming first from Nagase and then from... ... ... ... ... ... Nagase. Not to forget Red Lotus and Healer, though.

Now it seems that it has enough support to rule the world, but it has yet to win a major event. I made a promise to myself that if I ever went to Worlds (and it seems like I'll have to skip this year, too), I'd run a Good deck.

This year, however, that didn't do me a whole lotta good at the SCC, where a Good Hilde was basically shut down every game, turn 1 or 2. Other than mill, I don't see Good doing anything else. Which disgusts me, considering I like one of the best things Good offers: Reversals.

Good has plenty to offer, and it sickens me to see that its potential is going to waste.

Playing some devil's advocate here, but if milling with good is what wins, how is that the potential going to waste?

And the J. Talbain deck is certaintly not mill, nor is my semi-good Hilde.

Wow 5 HS mill wins insane i guess battle prowess and amys and all of earths wall is kinda like evil negation lol .

Good job shane and being the first person to take the ECC besides Hata lol .

Dude Criminal Past/Battle Prowess is a combo Satan himself created!! At least 4 rounds ppl scooped 2 me after I got 2 copies of each out!

Nobody really realizes how amazing Good is. I guess they are still in the mentality that Good is still the worst symbol or whatever, because it really was the worst symbol for the longest time ever. IMO Kyo is the best Good character out there because his board is untouchable once you get at least ONE Red Lotus out on the field. Plus since mill is the best win condition right now, then it really does have the best win condition. With an untouchable board and the best win condition, Good Mill can't really lose to anything except for Bishamon, who's probably gonna get banned because Steve hates mill so much and can't stand a card like Bishamon in the game. Can't say I blame him tho :)

Honestly, if I didn't make top 8 or was knocked out in top 8, the Kyo deck that came in 3rd would have won. My Bishamon was the only deck that could hands down beat the Kyo.
