My Claw Craft
Very nice.
Hey man, nice paint job. I was looking at some of Mel's stuff, how's the quality? Pretty good?
john!
Super cool. I was really considering getting one of these, but there's just too many to choose from.
The ones I got, tough, strong and flexable material, Y-wing, Claw, Hound's tooth, Slave 2, were rough. The phantom was frost. They took paint well but still have a rough texture. A friend of mine got the next step up and they were still a little rough but not as bad. They cost more as you go up the quality scale. for what I got I was happy. The Hound's Tooth was at $50. I'm waiting to find some future floor polish as they say that will even out the surfaces before I paint it. The y-wing was the roughest of all. The clear Phantom had to be sent back once as it broke in my hand but they replaced it.
Good to know. I'll probably take the lunge when I know what I want. It seems like the word on the forums is: "frosted ultra high detail." We'll see what I end up doing haha.
Thanks for the info!
John!
So far from Shapeways ive pretty much stuck to Frosted Detail and found it to be quite suitable considering the prices and quality.

First picture is just a single base-coat of Gray, and the second is when they were fully completed.
Ok yeah, that's pretty good. Do you use brushes or spray? It looks like you just washed and added some detail before clear coating? They look pretty good to me, nice work!
John!
Everything was with brushes. First picture is just a single coat of Citadel Warpfiend Grey I did as a base.
Second picture is a 2nd coat of the grey, then the black/red/brown for the details, then just a wash of Nuln oil to give it it the 'ive been in space for a year' look. I dont even have a clear coating on them.
Oh Nice! Four coats and they're ready for the table
That doesn't even seem like a ton of work.

Nope! not a lot of work at all. The only reason I did the 2nd coat was because I missed some spots (its hard to tell where you miss when the model is clear and the grey projects through it!) and because in certain spots the paint bled away from, which I think was due to the coating on the model. Still, im super happy with it, and in like two days I get my next shipment.
Nice! I'm seriously considering the Torrent as my first project. I think Mel Miniatures has a design for a StarViper, which is what I'd actually like, but he doesn't have it listed right now. I'll keep watching
What'd you painting next?
John.
I took out the StarViper. I dont want to sell things FFG has in their inventory.
I guess that makes sense. I was looking for an alternative to buying multiple sets with redundant cards buuuut... I'm starting to think it's a worthwhile investment.
John!
I'm working on the Hound's Tooth. I got all but the wings and engine done. I'm having trouble posting pics. I can't get photobucket to work.
The Hounds Tooth seems a favorite to be released by FFG in the next expansion. I'd definitely have to pick that one up ... honestly I'm not wild about how the ig-2000 looks so it'd be nice to have a FANTASTIC looking scum ship for display and play.
If you can get the pics up, let me know. I'd love to see it ![]()
John!
I got a link to work for my Hounds Tooth. I started a new thread.
